Re: AI slops from Eve

Jeroen Roovers links a header-less LLM-generated advisory to a similar fake llama.cpp GGUF parser advisory from May 2026.

In the 'AI slops from Eve' oss-security thread, Jeroen Roovers asks whether a current LLM-generated message without a Date header comes from the same source as a May 15, 2026 posting titled 'Security Advisory: Multiple Vulnerabilities in llama.cpp GGUF Format Parsers'. Both fake advisories share the missing Date header trait. The exchange highlights growing LLM-generated noise on security mailing lists.

The vLLM project documents draft-and-verify speculative decoding support for AMD GPUs via ROCm, comparing native MTP, Gemma 4 MTP, EAGLE-3, DFlash, and DSpark drafting approaches. Output-token throughput effects varied with drafting method, proposal length, model family, draft checkpoint, workload, and acceptance behavior. The post also covers how to enable each method plus practical tuning and observability considerations.

IdeaAMBIG: Benchmarking Implementation-Critical Gaps in Research-Idea Specifications

IdeaAMBIG benchmark with 660 instances measures whether LLMs can spot and fix underspecified research-method details for faithful implementation.

Researchers introduce IdeaAMBIG, a benchmark of 660 evidence-grounded instances (163 real-world gaps from reproducibility reports and GitHub issues, 497 controlled synthetic gaps) built from papers, codebases, and reproduction artifacts. It evaluates codification-readiness assessment, defect localization, and clarification action generation. Across 13 LLMs, the best model achieved only 9.6% Macro Defect Recovery Rate on real-world instances but 80.6% clarification success when given the annotated defect. An oracle study showed gold resolutions raise the codification-ready rate from 14% to 98%, identifying defect localization as the main bottleneck.

Understanding the Security Boundary of Obfuscation-based On-Device LLM Protection

Researchers formalize obfuscation primitives for TEE-protected on-device LLMs and show a Collapse attack breaks ArrowCloak, TSQP, and LoRO, then extend the boundary.

The paper formalizes obfuscation primitives for TEE-Shielded LLM Partition (TSLP) schemes that offload computationally intensive layers from a Trusted Execution Environment to external GPUs. A novel primitive-guided attack, Collapse, demonstrates a shared vulnerability in prominent published methods including ArrowCloak (Security'25), TSQP (S&P'25), and LoRO (NeurIPS'25). The authors then introduce two new obfuscation primitives and integrate them with existing constructs to formulate an extended security boundary (O_ext).

A Three-Layer Caching Architecture for Low-Latency LLM Web Search on Commodity CPU Hardware

OreoLook's three-layer Redis caching architecture cuts redundant LLM calls and embedding work for CPU-hosted web-search answer generation.

The paper describes a three-layer caching architecture for OreoLook (formerly lixSearch), an open-source LLM answer engine: a Redis session context window with Huffman-compressed disk overflow, a semantic query cache matching rephrasings via embedding cosine similarity, and a URL embedding cache deduplicating embedding computations. Deployed on a single 8-vCPU Intel Cascade Lake server with 30 Hypercorn workers across three containerized replicas, it achieved an 89.3% aggregate Redis keyspace hit rate, 0.1 ms read latency, and 1.38 MB memory overhead. An LRU eviction daemon migrates idle sessions to disk and rehydrates them for resumption hours or days later.

Re: Retrospective by 'gpg.fail' authors

GPG exploitation talk author clarifies a format-string 0day enabling code execution via printf %n writes and a polyglot PEM certificate payload.

Lexi Groves, author of the gpg.fail talk, clarified on oss-security that the first finding was an actual zero-day: a classic printf injection using %n for memory writes, with multiple X.509 certificates in one PEM file to re-enter and defeat ASLR before calling execv@plt. The payload executed the certificate itself, a polyglot file made by inserting a shebang and bash command into the PEM. A second finding was hash-collided by another party before the author could exploit it.

SimpleMemVLA: A Simple but Effective Native-Video Memory for Vision-Language-Action Models

SimpleMemVLA passes full timestamped video history straight to a VLA backbone, setting state of the art on four memory benchmarks.

SimpleMemVLA is a vision-language-action model for long-horizon manipulation that removes the dedicated memory module entirely. It keeps sampled history intact and feeds it to the backbone as timestamped video, with the hidden states of a generated sub-task serving as the only channel into a standard flow-matching action head. Prefilling the shared history prefix during action execution keeps latency close to a single-frame VLA. The system sets a new state of the art on four memory benchmarks and outperforms retrieval, compression and recurrent-state mechanisms, with causal interventions confirming the policy genuinely reads its history.

The Illusion of Local Privacy: Confidentiality Boundary Failures in Consumer LLM Serving Systems

Researchers show local LLM serving systems leak prompts via memory residue, plaintext persistence, a llama.cpp tenant-isolation flaw, and timing oracles.

A study of consumer local-LLM serving systems identifies four boundaries where prompt confidentiality fails: model loading, runtime memory, wrapper persistence, and the serving interface. Using the LLAnalyzer framework across four open-weight model families and two deployment platforms, the authors recover plaintext prompts from allocator-managed memory after inference and show wrappers extend prompt lifetime. They also uncover a previously undocumented llama.cpp authorization flaw letting one authenticated client restore another tenant's saved conversation state, succeeding in 200/200 trials, plus a remote timing oracle via shared prompt-prefix caching that works over WAN.

Cognitive Extensions for Dual-Process Language Agents: Memory and Self-Reflection in Interactive Environments

Researchers extend the SwiftSage dual-process agent with adaptive memory and self-reflection modules, improving scores in interactive environments.

The work adds an Adaptive Memory Module (AMM) for salience-gated episodic storage and trigger-driven retrieval, and a Self-Reflection Module (SRM) for bounded execution-time validation and corrective intervention, to the SwiftSage agent. Controlled ablations on ScienceWorld across four configurations show the full system achieves the best mean final score (64.62), success rate (43.17%), and successful-step efficiency (19.33 steps). SRM is the strongest standalone contributor, suggesting execution-time control is the dominant bottleneck while episodic memory helps once the runtime loop is stable.

When the prompt becomes the payload: A practical pen-testing guide for GenAI, LLM and RAG applications

CSO Online publishes a practical penetration-testing guide for GenAI, LLM, and RAG applications, covering prompt injection, retrieval poisoning, and tenant isolation testing.

The guide frames LLM applications as attack graphs spanning prompts, retrieval layers, vector stores, tools, identities, and downstream APIs, arguing that conventional web testing misses instruction-vs-data channel risks. It builds on OWASP prompt injection guidance (direct vs. indirect injection) and NIST's 2025 adversarial machine-learning taxonomy, noting that RAG and fine-tuning do not remove injection risk. Recommended practices include documenting trust transitions across components, using canaries and synthetic records to avoid test side effects, running multi-turn and obfuscated injection campaigns, and verifying chains from poisoned documents to observable state changes. It also details testing RAG pipelines via controlled document poisoning across metadata, OCR layers, and code comments, plus cross-tenant isolation checks on retrieved document IDs.
