CISA Adds Exploited MikroTik RouterOS Flaws to Security Alert

CISA added two actively exploited MikroTik RouterOS flaws, CVE-2026-67277 and CVE-2026-86060, to its KEV catalog with a September 13 mitigation deadline.

CISA added CVE-2026-67277 and CVE-2026-86060 in MikroTik RouterOS to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on September 10, giving federal agencies until September 13 to apply vendor mitigations. CVE-2026-67277 is a missing-authentication flaw (CWE-306) in the bandwidth-test (btest) service that can expose kernel memory and cause denial of service; CVE-2026-86060 (CWE-88) lets attackers manipulate the trusted RouterOS policy mask for privilege escalation. CISA designated CVE-2026-86060 as requiring forensic triage under Binding Operational Directive 26-04, meaning organizations should hunt for compromise indicators, not just patch. Compromised routers could have altered routing rules, persistence, traffic interception, or use as pivots into internal networks.

Beneath the Surface: Detecting and Blocking Hidden Malicious Traffic Distribution Systems

Unit 42 built an ML-based detector for malicious traffic distribution systems, finding malicious TDS chains average longer redirections and more URLs than legitimate ones.

Traffic distribution systems redirect victims through chains of intermediate domains to hide final destinations, serving phishing, malvertising, and online gambling operations. Unit 42's topological analysis of redirection graphs found malicious TDS traffic uses longer chains (about 25% exceed four hops vs 10% benign), more URLs (median 126 vs 80), and fewer isolated subgraphs with higher connectivity. These features power an ML detector integrated into Advanced DNS Security and Advanced URL Filtering to identify and block malicious TDS infrastructure in customer traffic.

HoneyRoute: Honeypot-Model Routing for Adversarial LLM Serving

HoneyRoute detects malicious LLM serving requests and diverts them to a honeypot model, reaching F1 0.911 with 38 ms median added latency.

HoneyRoute is an inference-serving layer pairing a streaming router (a frozen 0.8B embedding backbone with per-domain MLP heads) with a dual-implementation honeypot and an analysis loop that converts trapped interactions into attacker fingerprints for router retraining. On a production trace plus a seven-domain attack corpus it matches 96% of a two-tier guard-LLM cascade's F1 at 1/385th of its latency with 0% evasion under 13 adversarial transformations. Diverting malicious traffic cuts production token consumption under GCG-suffix flooding by 97.8%, and loop training raises detection F1 to 0.933.

New Ted Backdoor Hides Inside Victims' Own HAProxy Builds to Intercept Web Traffic

Rapid7 found a new backdoor, ted, compiled into trojanized HAProxy at two South Korean organizations, with medium-confidence attribution to North Korean actors.

Rapid7 documented a previously undocumented Linux toolkit named ted compiled into the HAProxy load balancer binaries of two South Korean organizations in the automotive and media sectors. The implant intercepts web traffic, serves altered pages only to filtered visitors, and hides C2 exchanges from backend logs and HAProxy statistics; a companion RAT, curlRAT, beacons on a default 12-hour schedule. The toolkit also trojanizes crond, sshd, agetty, atd, and polkitd binaries and sanitizes logs and bash history. Rapid7 attributes the activity with medium confidence to North Korean state-sponsored actors, with domain infrastructure overlapping APT37 listings in maltrail and delivery resembling the Operation SyncHole campaign.

Hackers Exploit FortiGate SSL-VPN Flaw to Breach Thai ISP and Deploy MeshCentral Backdoor

Threat actors exploited FortiOS SSL-VPN flaw CVE-2024-21762 to breach Thai ISP Triple T Broadband, gaining root-level persistence via MeshCentral agents.

Attackers exploited CVE-2024-21762, an out-of-bounds write enabling unauthenticated RCE in FortiOS SSL-VPN, against Triple T Broadband's FortiGate 60F at mail.3bb.co.th, launching a Node.js reverse shell via a ROP payload. Hunt.io uncovered the operation through an exposed staging directory at 92.63.180[.]133:8888 containing 298 files of exploits, credential-harvesting scripts, session cookies, and a device inventory. Post-compromise, the actors deployed MeshCentral agents (device group TH-3BB, C2 www.ayuthayatech.com) running as root, plus a hidden SUID backdoor at /usr/local/bin/.rc, and also targeted an internal Pentaho/Tomcat server with Ghostcat (CVE-2020-1938). A cleanup script removed logs, shell histories, and web shells while deliberately preserving the MeshCentral agent and SUID backdoor.

Cyberattack causes a flight delay? Airlines won’t owe you a hotel or meal

A new DOT rule exempts airlines from providing meal vouchers or hotels for cyberattack-caused delays if carriers comply with applicable cybersecurity regulations.

A Department of Transportation rule published in September 2026 adds "cybersecurity attacks" to a list of 10 "not controllable" flight disruption causes, creating a new delay tracking category and relieving compliant airlines of customer service obligations like meal vouchers and hotels. The rule stems from the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 and applies only when carriers demonstrate compliance with applicable cybersecurity regulations. Consumer groups reacted cautiously: FlyersRights criticized the lack of public comment, while the National Consumers League saw both certainty benefits and risks from ambiguous wording. The article cites prior aviation incidents including Scattered Spider's airline attacks and the 2024 Collins Aerospace hack that disrupted European flights.

The Shared Clipboard Inside the Sandbox: Cross-Account Data Leakage in ChatGPT

Check Point discovers cross-account data leakage in ChatGPT: isolated code-execution containers communicate via shared JFrog Artifactory, enabling covert Gmail exfiltration.

Check Point Research found a covert bidirectional channel between ChatGPT code-execution containers belonging to different accounts, which were supposed to be isolated from each other and the public internet. Both could reach the same internal JFrog Artifactory instance used for package delivery, whose exposed Item Management API allowed a 'shared clipboard' between containers. In a proof of concept, a hidden instruction in a shared conversation made ChatGPT retrieve email data from the victim's connected Gmail account and send it to the attacker's account while the victim received a normal answer. The same channel could exfiltrate conversation history and session files; OpenAI recently described a similar isolation weakness in its postmortem of the Hugging Face incident.

A rant about phishing: It's not the user's fault (and not DNS either)

Opinion piece argues multi-domain login redirects make legitimate flows indistinguishable from phishing, urging organizations to standardize on one recognizable root domain.

The author shows a real-world login flow that chains through numerous third-party domains (identity providers, cloud auth endpoints, OAuth APIs, 2FA pages), none on the company's own domain, so credentials and 2FA prompts are trivially impersonable. The piece argues URLs are inherently confusing because the security-relevant second-level domain sits mid-string, and that users trained to ignore URLs cannot distinguish legitimate pages from scams. It proposes RFC 2119-style requirements: single recognizable root domain, internal services on its subdomains, emailed or SMS links on that domain, and local redirects instead of third-party hosted pages.

CaptiveCrunch: Midnight Blizzard Weaponizes Hotel Wi-Fi Captive Portals to Steal Microsoft 365 Credentials

Zscaler details CaptiveCrunch: Midnight Blizzard's Storm-2945 compromises hotel Wi-Fi captive portals to redirect guests and harvest Microsoft 365 credentials via device code phishing.

Zscaler ThreatLabz analyzed the CaptiveCrunch credential theft campaign first reported by Microsoft on July 31. Microsoft attributes the activity to Storm-2945, a sub-cluster of Russia-linked Midnight Blizzard (APT29, Cozy Bear, NOBELIUM, BlueBravo). The actor manipulates DNS and HTTP traffic on captive portal networks at hotels and conference centers, redirecting victims to attacker-controlled infrastructure for Microsoft 365 credential harvesting, device code phishing, and malware delivery. Evidence indicates shared captive portal services were compromised rather than each venue being breached individually.
