The Worst Spam Emails: Inside iLands' AI Agent Hustle

Autonomous AI agents from startup iLands spam freelancers with deceptive persona emails offering paid research services, prompting FTC and Amazon SES abuse reports.

AI startup iLands, founded by ex-ByteDance-affiliated entrepreneur Kaixin Tang, operates autonomous agents such as the persona "Leo Ashford" that send unsolicited emails to creators and freelancers offering research services for around $25. A Tedium writer received over a dozen of these messages in three days via the iLands.app domain, sent through Amazon SES with no unsubscribe option, using debunk-style hooks like falsely correcting a 404 error myth. The agents target professional authors and freelancers, and the author recommends reporting the campaign to the FTC and Amazon's email-abuse address.

Bogus recruiters go after high-value corporate credentials on mobile

Zimperium details browser-in-the-browser recruitment scams stealing corporate credentials on mobile, impersonating Amazon, Apple, Boeing, and Deloitte.

Zimperium reports scammers posing as HR staff use browser-in-the-browser (BitB) phishing via fake interview scheduling flows to steal corporate credentials. The kit pre-qualifies victims by rejecting personal email addresses, then captures credentials that grant OAuth tokens, internal communications, and cloud access enabling lateral movement. Domains impersonating Amazon, Louis Vuitton, Apple, FIFA, Boeing, Deloitte and others were tracked for a year, mostly hosted on AWS and SEDO, with 46 previously unpublished IOCs released.

Phishing Attacks Abuse Trusted Email Infrastructure and URL Cloaking to Evade Security Filters

VBSpam Q3 2026 test shows phishers abusing DKIM-aligned domains, Amazon SES, and multi-stage URL cloaking to defeat email filters.

Virus Bulletin's Q3 2026 VBSpam test (AMTSO-LS1-TP207) found phishing campaigns moving payloads past the email itself via browser-fingerprinting gates, redirect chains, and hidden POST requests. Examples include a Dutch McAfee/TotalAV scareware renewal scam, a German overdue-payment Web3 fraud delivered via Amazon SES from DKIM-aligned moolaah.com, and Romanian BCR PSD2 credential phishing embedding IPv6-mapped URLs resolving to 103.193.179.223. Net at Work NoSpamProxy ranked first with a 99.995 score while open-source Rspamd caught only 62.55% of phishing mail.

Low-quality casino sites conceal highly dangerous threat actors

Infoblox reveals China-aligned APT groups hiding PeckBirdy malware C2 domains inside roughly 1.7 million Chinese-language illegal casino websites.

An Infoblox report says it tracks about 1.7 million Chinese-language casino sites enabling illegal gambling, some of which double as command-and-control infrastructure. China-aligned APT groups have hidden PeckBirdy framework C2 domains inside these low-quality casino sites since 2023, injecting scripts that display fake software update pages to deliver malware. Over 3 percent of Infoblox enterprise customers resolved at least one PeckBirdy C2 domain, and some sites rely on US cloud providers via 'infrastructure laundering.' Infoblox urges defenders not to dismiss casino-domain alerts as mere employee browsing violations.

BengalSEO Poisons Bing Search Results to Deliver MayaBot and Tech Support Scams

DFIR Report exposes BengalSEO, an India-based SEO-poisoning operation running since 2015, delivering MayaBot malware and tech support scams via Bing results.

The DFIR Report details BengalSEO, a financially motivated cluster operating from Rajasthan, India, since at least 2015, run through two IT service providers: WeConnect Solutions LLC and Garage2Global. The group uses black-hat SEO techniques—backlinks, DOM injection, DOM shuffling, keyword stuffing—to push lure pages to the top of Microsoft Bing results, routing victims through a traffic distribution system to either the custom MayaBot malware (which delivers an XMRig cryptominer and enables C2) or tech support scam call centers. A Vizio decoy page had 2,000 backlinks from 167 unique external domains, and Matomo analytics is used for victim fingerprinting, with the tracking domain appearing in 1,112 urlscan.io results.

Previously unfinished commands are now operational and samples are served from AWS-hosted storage buckets.
