Why The Vulnerability Backlog Is About To Get Worse
Recorded Future analysis says AI-driven vulnerability discovery and faster weaponization will grow the triage backlog while shrinking defenders' response windows.
Disclosed vulnerabilities rose from roughly 21,000 in 2021 to nearly 50,000 in 2025, while Recorded Future assessed only 446 as actively exploited in 2025. VulnCheck found nearly 29% of 2025 KEV entries were exploited on or before CVE publication. The authors argue AI-assisted discovery and automated exploit development will multiply credible reports, cut disclosure-to-exploit time toward minutes, and force re-evaluation of medium-severity flaws as exploit-chain components.

TerminalFix Uses Fake Cloudflare CAPTCHAs to Deploy Reverse
Microsoft details TerminalFix, a ClickFix variant using fake Cloudflare CAPTCHAs to make users run PowerShell payloads with reverse-tunnel implants.
Microsoft disclosed TerminalFix campaigns that direct users to run commands in Windows Terminal or PowerShell instead of the Run dialog, increasing the chance multi-line scripts execute. Compromised websites serve fake Cloudflare CAPTCHA verifications; the resulting PowerShell command downloads a ZIP with legitimate LockScreenContentServer.exe and rogue dui70.dll for DLL sideloading, retrieves payloads hidden in PNG images from attacker domains, persists via Registry Run keys and scheduled tasks, and performs domain trust and Active Directory reconnaissance. A Python-based reverse-tunnel implant (client.py) tunnels arbitrary TCP traffic over an encrypted WebSocket to gitnow[.]dev:443, giving attackers network-level proxy access that could enable privilege escalation, security-tool tampering, data theft or ransomware. Microsoft recommends AppLocker restrictions, PowerShell script block logging and ClickFix awareness training.
Securin Platform helps security teams prove when attack paths are closed
Securin launches the AI-native Securin Platform unifying exposure management, attack surface discovery, offensive validation and remediation to prove attack paths are closed.
Securin announced general availability of the Securin Platform, an AI-native preemptive exposure management product combining attack surface discovery, vulnerability and threat intelligence, prioritization, offensive validation and remediation verification in one workflow. It includes modules Surface, Signals, Exposure, Validate and Assure, orchestrated by the VERA multi-agent AI framework, and aims to verify whether real attack paths are closed rather than ranking findings by severity alone.
[AINews] Poolside gets $12B reverse-execuhire to NVIDIA; founders stay for $1B, employees go for $6B, Infraco scaling to 7GW neocloud
NVIDIA struck a $12B deal with AI coding startup Poolside, licensing its Model Factory and hiring 109 of its technical employees.
NVIDIA spent roughly $12B in an unusual reverse-execuhire of Poolside, licensing the company's Model Factory while hiring 109 of its ~115 technical staff; founders retain a $1B stake and employees receive about $6B. Poolside had raced to raise $2B to fund a 40,000 GB300 cluster after missing a six-week funding window, and founders argue frontier-scale training now requires an order of magnitude more compute plus contracted data center space. An infrastructure arm spun out in January 2026 is scaling toward 7GW as a neocloud. The newsletter also recaps OpenAI and Anthropic agent-platform releases.

Gartner: 70% of SOCs will pilot AI agents. Only 15% will see results
Gartner predicts 70% of large SOCs will pilot AI agents by 2028, but only 15% will achieve measurable improvements.
A Gartner report by analysts Craig Lawson and Andrew Davies projects that by 2028, 70% of large SOCs will pilot AI agents for Tier 1 and Tier 2 operations, but only 15% will achieve measurable improvements without structured evaluation. Prophet Security's State of AI in Security Operations 2026 survey found 40% of security teams use AI daily and 56% are evaluating or piloting it. The report offers evaluation questions covering workload reduction, TDIR outcomes, vendor viability, analyst upskilling, and autonomy boundaries to counter AI washing in the market.
PaperCut Attacker Uses Hundreds of AI Agents to Compromise 440+ Instances
GreyNoise and Blackpoint tracked an AI-assisted actor using OpenAI Codex and DeepSeek agents to exploit PaperCut flaws across 440+ instances in 48 countries.
A suspected Russian-speaking actor exploited the CVE-2026-81578 authentication bypass and CVE-2026-82078 RCE chain in PaperCut NG/MF, compromising at least 440 instances across 395 organizations in 48 countries, heavily targeting education in the US, UK, France, and elsewhere. The actor used hundreds of AI agents powered by OpenAI Codex and DeepSeek plus tools like Mimikatz, SharpHound, Certipy, Rubeus, and Impacket, reaching domain admin at 12 victims and full domain admin at a US high school within seven minutes. Post-exploitation included registry hive collection and Metasploit/Meterpreter payloads, with origin traced to IP 45.142.193.132.
What It Took to Reach 1 Billion Build Manifests
Chainguard doubled container build manifests to over 1 billion in six months, powered by Factory 2.0's agentic self-correcting rebuild system.
Chainguard reports growing from 500 million to over 1 billion container build manifests in six months, across more than 3,000 unique images and 675,000 image versions. Its Factory 2.0 system, built on the purpose-built Chainguard OS, uses an agentic reconciliation engine called DriftlessAF to decide when to rebuild across thousands of interdependent projects without human intervention. All artifacts ship with SLSA Level 3 provenance, Sigstore signatures, and full SBOMs.

SAEScientist-Bench: Can AI Agents Conduct Autonomous SAE Interpretability Research?
SAEScientist-Bench tests whether AI agents can autonomously run SAE interpretability research on Gemma-2-9B-IT; frontier agents trail expert baselines.
The benchmark requires agents to design contrastive probes and navigate the Gemma Scope dictionary of over 131K features in Gemma-2-9B-IT to discover optimal interpretable features, scored against expert-curated references on Neuronpedia via activation rank, concept selectivity, and causal steering. Across 10 agent configurations and 20 tasks, frontier agents demonstrate genuine discovery capability and approach expert levels at separating target concepts from controls, but lag substantially in causal steering and frequently misinterpret experimental measurements. The authors frame this as establishing experimental model understanding as a measurable capability for closed-loop autonomous AI R&D and post-hoc monitoring for recursive self-improvement.
