Cisco Talos reports 90 ransomware incidents hit Japanese organizations in H1 2026, led by The Gentlemen, with Qilin using AI for efficiency.

Cisco Talos observed 90 ransomware incidents against Japanese organizations from January to July 2026, up about 4.7% year over year, with manufacturing accounting for 34% of victims. The Gentlemen was the most active group with 14 incidents; its leak-site listings grew from 48 in January to 105 in July. Healthcare facilities operator Nutex says patient, employee data stolen in August incident

The Gentlemen ransomware gang claims the theft of patient and employee data from healthcare operator Nutex Health, which disclosed the extortion in SEC filings.

Nutex Health said in an 8-K filing that intruders broke into its servers and exfiltrated patient, employee, provider and confidential financial data, and that it is being extorted with threats to publish the information. A Texas class action was filed after the company's August 24 disclosure, and Nutex cannot yet estimate the incident's impact. The Gentlemen ransomware-as-a-service gang, active since September 2025 and believed Russia-based, listed Nutex on its leak site; Dragos ranked it third among groups attacking industrial organizations in Q2 2026 with 125 claimed attacks.

Ransomware group hijacks hospital system’s Facebook page amid ongoing cyberattack fallout

'The Gentlemen' ransomware group hijacked AnMed's Facebook page, claiming theft of 6TB of sensitive patient data during an ongoing cyberattack on the hospital system.

AnMed, a nonprofit medical system with four hospitals in Georgia and South Carolina, is still responding to a July 26 cyberattack involving malware, with 10 facilities remaining closed as of Monday. On Tuesday its Facebook page displayed unauthorized posts claiming 'The Gentlemen' ransomware group exfiltrated 6 terabytes of data, including records on sexual assault, mental health, abortions and harassment; AnMed said the claims are unverified and patient data impact has not been confirmed. The Gentlemen, believed founded by a former Qilin affiliate using the moniker 'hastalamuerte,' extorted 332 victims in the first five months of 2026 per CheckPoint and claimed 125 industrial attacks in Q2 2026 per Dragos. The group typically breaches networks through edge devices, credential brute-forcing and known vulnerabilities, and offers affiliates tools to disable EDR.

Risky Bulletin: Two TeamPCP members arrested in Australia

Australian Federal Police arrested two alleged TeamPCP members behind supply-chain worm attacks that stole over 500,000 credentials from compromised open-source libraries.

The AFP arrested alleged TeamPCP leader Ruben Thomson, 21, and Louis Gaebler, 23, near Perth; both were charged and remain in custody. The group inserted a self-spreading credential-stealing worm into open-source projects including Trivy, KICS, LiteLLM, and Telnyx, harvesting more than 500,000 credentials used for network access, ransomware, extortion, and sales. About 78,000 tokens and secrets from nearly 2,200 organizations leaked online last month, and the FBI supported the investigation that began in April.

Critical Check Point VPN Vulnerabilities Enable Remote Code Execution Attacks

Check Point patched two critical VPN flaws, CVE-2026-85102 and CVE-2026-85103 (CVSS 9.8), allowing unauthenticated RCE on Security Gateways.

Check Point disclosed and patched two critical VPN vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-85102 (improper certificate trust validation, CWE-295) and CVE-2026-85103 (heap-based buffer overflow in ASN.1 certificate parsing, CWE-122), both rated CVSS 9.8 and exploitable for unauthenticated remote code execution under specific conditions. The flaws affect Security Gateway, Security Management Server, and Spark Firewall deployments on R81.20, R82, and R82.10 branches plus end-of-support versions such as R80.40 and R81, while R82.20 is not affected. Check Point reports no evidence of active exploitation or public PoC; Live Patch rollout began September 9, 2026, and administrators without it must install Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator builds (R82.10 Take 44+, R82 Take 126+, R81.20 Take 166+). For Site-to-Site VPN, restricting UDP ports 500 and 4500 to known peers serves as an interim workaround, but no mitigation exists for Remote Access VPN or Spark Firewalls.
