Passkey-themed phishing attacks lead to Microsoft 365 data theft
Microsoft links ShinyHunters- and Helix-affiliated actors to passkey-themed vishing and device-code phishing that compromises Microsoft 365 accounts and steals cloud data.
Microsoft attributes passkey- and SSO-themed social engineering activity, observed since May 2026, to Storm-3121 (linked to ShinyHunters and Falcon) and Storm-3032 (tied to BlackFile members now operating as Helix). Attackers impersonate corporate IT help desks by phone or SMS, urging fake passkey, MFA, or SSO updates and directing victims to adversary-in-the-middle phishing pages or device-code authentication flows that yield credentials, session tokens, and OAuth tokens. Post-compromise behavior includes Microsoft Graph enumeration of users, SharePoint, and OAuth grants, plus persistence via attacker-controlled MFA methods. Google Threat Intelligence tracks related activity as UNC6671, linked to the BlackFile, Helix, Falcon, Pink, and Redact extortion gangs.
BigBear phishing crew nets thousands of Microsoft 365 credentials
CloudSEC accessed the BigBear 2.0 phishing panel, finding 5,137 stolen Microsoft 365 records across 461 organizations, including 474 MFA-bypassed sessions.
CloudSEC researchers got inside the admin panel of BigBear 2.0, an Evilginx2-based phishing-as-a-service operation run by someone known as 'General Boss'. The panel contained 5,137 records tied to 461 organizations: 1,032 plaintext passwords and 4,148 session cookies, with 474 complete MFA-bypassed authentications. The adversary-in-the-middle proxy captures Microsoft 365 session cookies that can be replayed to access email, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, potentially pivoting into Entra ID and federated SaaS. The operation was still active, used custom JavaScript to disable FIDO2/WebAuthn on phishing pages, and routed logins through a residential proxy pool spanning 69 countries.
Doubloon Dredger Abuses Notion to Harvest Authentication Tokens
Doubloon Dredger malware abuses Notion and malicious PDFs to steal Microsoft authentication tokens from victims.
Doubloon Dredger is a malware campaign that abuses Notion and malicious PDF files to harvest Microsoft authentication tokens. Using a legitimate collaboration service likely helps the operation blend into trusted SaaS traffic and evade detection. Stolen Microsoft authentication tokens can enable account access without knowing user passwords.
Inside Knight Office, a New M365 AiTM Phishing Kit
Huntress details Knight Office, a new AiTM phishing kit stealing Microsoft 365 session tokens and registering attacker-controlled devices.
Huntress investigated an August 18, 2026 adversary-in-the-middle attack using the Knight Office phishing kit, which captured Microsoft 365 session tokens via a DocuSign-style lure routed through a Monday.com tracking link and a compromised Joomla site. After token capture, the actor enrolled an unauthorized host in Microsoft Entra ID and bound a Windows Hello for Business key credential to the account. The kit's operator console, found at IP 104.37.188.94, is built on Python Flask and hosts at least 25 .vu phishing domains. Telemetry links the kit to at least nine token-replay logins in two weeks and roughly 700 reported lure emails since April.
Microsoft security advisory – September 2026 monthly rollup (AV26-896) – Update 1
Canada's Cyber Centre relays Microsoft's September 2026 rollup; CISA added exploited zero-days CVE-2026-85880 and CVE-2026-81963 to KEV.
Advisory AV26-896 from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security summarizes Microsoft's September 2026 monthly security rollup, listing affected products across Windows, Office, .NET, Azure, Exchange and SQL Server. It notes Microsoft confirmed CVE-2026-81963 and CVE-2026-85880 have been exploited. On September 8, 2026, CISA added both CVEs to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and administrators are urged to apply the updates.
ZDI-26-534: (Pwn2Own) Microsoft Exchange Capture-Replay Authentication Bypass Vulnerability
Pwn2Own-demoed CVE-2026-62911 capture-replay authentication bypass in Microsoft Exchange allows unauthenticated remote attacks, CVSS 8.1.
ZDI-26-534 describes a capture-replay authentication bypass vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange, demonstrated at Pwn2Own, allowing remote attackers to bypass authentication without credentials. ZDI assigned a CVSS score of 8.1, and the flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-62911. Exchange servers are widely deployed enterprise mail infrastructure.
BigBear Microsoft 365 phishing service bypassed MFA at 258 organizations
CloudSEK found the BigBear 2.0 phishing-as-a-service platform bypassed MFA at 258 organizations and captured over 5,000 Microsoft 365 credentials.
CloudSEK researchers gained administrator access to the BigBear 2.0 phishing-as-a-service control panel and found it had exfiltrated 5,137 credential records, including 474 completed MFA-bypassed authentications, 1,032 plaintext passwords, and 4,148 session cookies across 3,331 victim IPs in 40+ countries. The Evilginx2-based AitM proxy intercepts credentials and authenticated session cookies, and custom JavaScript interferes with FIDO2/WebAuthn to force weaker authentication. The panel is leased to at least five affiliate operators via Telegram exfiltration bots, and geo-matched residential proxies cover 69 countries to evade detection.
September 2026 Microsoft Patch Tuesday, (Tue, Sep 8th)
Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes a record 973 vulnerabilities, including 113 critical and two Windows privilege-escalation flaws already exploited in the wild.
Microsoft patched 973 vulnerabilities this month, its largest Patch Tuesday ever and far above the previous record of 664 set in July 2026, with 113 rated critical. Two Important elevation-of-privilege flaws (CVSS 7.8) are confirmed exploited in the wild: CVE-2026-81963 in the Windows Update Stack (improper link resolution, affects Windows 11 and Server 2025) and CVE-2026-85880 in Windows ALPC (heap-based buffer overflow allowing sandbox escape to SYSTEM, affects Windows 10 and Server 2012-2022). Critical unauthenticated RCEs (CVSS 9.8) were also fixed in Skype for Business Server (CVE-2026-66302), Windows Message Queuing (CVE-2026-69579), and Windows RRAS (CVE-2026-69590). SANS urges prioritizing the two exploited EoP fixes, then patching exposed MSMQ, RRAS, and Skype for Business deployments.
Mirage2FA Surge Hits 4,500 US and EU Companies, Abusing Microsoft 365 Login Flows
Mirage2FA phishing-as-a-service campaign hit ~4,500 organizations, mostly US, stealing Microsoft 365 passwords and session cookies to bypass 2FA.
ANY.RUN research links the Mirage2FA phishing-as-a-service toolkit to 4,532 unique organization email domains between 2024 and 2026, with the US accounting for 63.7% of victims. The kit uses adversary-in-the-middle login flows to harvest credentials and session cookies, bypassing MFA on Microsoft 365 accounts. Researchers recorded more than 9,000 potential compromise events and estimated 48% of targeted email addresses were potentially compromised. Hijacked sessions extend to SSO-connected services, enabling impersonation, fraud and further compromise.
