The author aggregates supply-chain security trends from sixteen weeks of This Week in Package Management, built from about 80 RSS feeds. Release-age cooldown gates shipped in Deno 2.8, Bundler, npm, Yarn, mise, Hex, Mamba, and Cargo, with Dependabot making a three-day cooldown default in August. npm 12 and Bun 1.4 now block lifecycle install scripts by default, and Composer 2.10 and uv added install/publish-time malware checks, while npm's registry began scanning at publish time. Path traversal on archive extraction was fixed in 14 of 16 weeks across tools including uv, pnpm, Docker, and Composer, and credential-misdirection bugs affected Cargo, ORAS, Composer, and Renovate.
ToolHive: The open-source way to run any MCP server securely
Stacklok's open-source ToolHive runs Model Context Protocol servers in isolated containers with per-request identity enforcement, audit logging and a signed registry.
ToolHive, shipped under Apache 2.0, containersizes MCP servers locally via Docker or Podman or in clusters through a Kubernetes operator, applying permissions, network filtering, and secrets management. The platform includes a Registry Server implementing the official MCP Registry API with signing and provenance verification, a Virtual MCP Server gateway with OIDC/OAuth single sign-on and OpenTelemetry traces, and a desktop Portal for one-click installs. The browser-based cloud UI is retired, so the desktop app and CLI are the supported rollout paths.
2026-005: High Vulnerability in the Linux Kernel ("Copy Fail")
Linux kernel flaw CVE-2026-31431 ('Copy Fail', CVSS 7.8) allows unprivileged users to gain root via AF_ALG; a public PoC is out and most distros remain unpatched.
Disclosed on 29 April 2026, CVE-2026-31431 is a local privilege escalation in the Linux kernel's algif_aead module (AF_ALG crypto API), CVSS 7.8, stemming from a 2017 in-place optimisation. By chaining an AF_ALG socket operation with splice(), an unprivileged user can write 4 bytes into an arbitrary page-cache page, e.g. corrupting a setuid binary like /usr/bin/su to obtain a root shell. It affects virtually all kernels built since 2017, including Ubuntu 20.04-24.04, Amazon Linux 2023, RHEL 10.1, and SUSE 16; the mainline fix landed 1 April 2026 but no vendor packages were available as of 30 April. CERT-EU recommends the interim mitigation (disable algif_aead) and blocking AF_ALG via seccomp, prioritising Kubernetes nodes and CI/CD runners.
