The Rosetta system for the AlexandriaX-2026 shared task fine-tunes a LoRA adapter on NileChat-3B for context-aware English-to-dialectal Arabic dialogue translation. The adapter was additionally pretrained on MADAR and PADIC dialect corpora for the unconstrained track. It achieved spBLEU 26.10 (4th, constrained) and 25.09 (5th, unconstrained). External dialect pretraining improved only two of thirteen dialects while slightly degrading overall performance, indicating negative transfer.

Gemini 3.5 Live Translate powers real-time spoken translation across 70 languages and 2,000+ language pairs, while Gemini 3.5 Transcribe is its most precise speech-to-text model. Its Universal Speech Model was trained on 12 million hours of audio using cross-lingual transfer learning, and TranslateGemma is a family of lightweight open translation models covering 55 languages that run on-device. Open-data partnerships include WAXAL covering 27 Sub-Saharan African languages and Project Vaani with 30,000+ hours of speech across 109 languages.

Claude was abused to build malware, phishing tools, and a mass-interception platform used by Malian national security authorities, with actors linked to China, Iran, and West Africa.

Benchmarks show 80.1% on full-duplex interactivity versus 45.4% for GPT-Realtime-2.1, turn-taking latency of 0.8 seconds versus 1.4 seconds, tool-calling accuracy of 87% versus 60%, and a 32% pass rate on a banking voice-support benchmark versus 12.4%. The model costs $0.05 per minute, ships twelve new voices, provides ASR transcripts and response text, and is already in production at Yelp for phone-based reservations.

NVIDIA Announces CUDA Rust with cuda-oxide (SIMT) and cutile-rs (Tile) for Compile-Time-Safe GPU Kernels

NVIDIA launches CUDA Rust via open-source cuda-oxide (SIMT) and cutile-rs (Tile), bringing compile-time-safe Rust GPU kernels.

NVIDIA announced CUDA Rust, making Rust a first-class language for GPU kernels through two NVlabs open-source projects: cuda-oxide for the SIMT model and cutile-rs for the Tile model. Both use Rust's ownership and borrow checker to catch buffer aliasing bugs at compile time. cutile-rs is published on crates.io, runs on stable Rust 1.89+ with CUDA 13.3, and is already used in Hugging Face's Grout inference engine and mistral.rs; cuda-oxide is early alpha requiring nightly Rust, CUDA 12.x, and compute capability 8.0+. cuda-oxide compiles Rust MIR through the community Pliron IR framework and LLVM to PTX, while cutile-rs JIT-compiles kernels via CUDA Tile IR.
