Google Releases Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking for Production Grade Voice Agents

Google launches Gemini 3.8 Live and Extended Thinking speech-to-speech models for production voice agents, topping speech-to-speech benchmarks.

Google released Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking, native speech-to-speech models for real-time voice agents, available hosted via the Gemini Live API and AI Studio. Extended Thinking ranks #1 on Artificial Analysis' Speech-to-Speech Quality Index with 82.6, scores 68.6% on τ-Voice, 35.1% on Sierra's τ-Voice-banking, and 97.7% on Big Bench Audio. The models support asynchronous function calling, near-real-time visual context, alphanumeric precision, and 97 languages, priced at $0.005/min audio input and $0.018/min audio output. All generated audio carries Google DeepMind's imperceptible SynthID watermark.

OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 API lets developers build apps that talk and listen at the same time

OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 API enables full-duplex speech apps, outperforming GPT-Realtime-2.1 with 0.8s turn-taking latency at $0.05 per minute.

OpenAI released GPT-Live-1 as a developer API for full-duplex speech, allowing applications to listen and talk simultaneously; it already powers ChatGPT voice. Benchmarks show 80.1% on full-duplex interactivity versus 45.4% for GPT-Realtime-2.1, turn-taking latency of 0.8 seconds versus 1.4 seconds, tool-calling accuracy of 87% versus 60%, and a 32% pass rate on a banking voice-support benchmark versus 12.4%. The model costs $0.05 per minute, ships twelve new voices, provides ASR transcripts and response text, and is already in production at Yelp for phone-based reservations.

Multi-Step Tool-Calling over Korean Open Public APIs: A Benchmark and a Data-Synthesis Recipe

Researchers introduce KOPA-Bench, a 145-task Korean public API tool-calling benchmark, and EDGE, an execution-grounded data synthesis method.

An arXiv paper presents KOPA-Bench, a benchmark of 145 real-world tasks chaining multiple tool-calls across live Korean government APIs, motivated by data-sovereignty requirements for on-premise open-source LLM agents. It also introduces EDGE, an execution-grounded dynamic graph that keeps only tool-output-to-input links verified by live API calls before synthesizing executable multi-step trajectories. A 9B model fine-tuned with GRPO on the resulting dataset nearly matches its untuned 27B family sibling on KOPA-Bench and improves on the BFCL benchmark.

Infostealers Target Claude, Cursor, Codex and Other AI Agents to Steal Credentials and Sensitive Data

Gen Digital researchers report infostealer families Amatera, Remus and CallbackBeaver now harvest Claude, Cursor and Codex agent data, including tokens and MCP configs.

Gen Digital researchers found commodity infostealers extending their collection rules to local AI coding agent data from Claude, Cursor, Codex, Cline, Continue and OpenCode on Windows and macOS. Amatera targets Cline and Continue, Remus targets Claude, Cursor and OpenCode, and CallbackBeaver added Claude and Cursor with more than 5,000 samples observed in 30 days; Djinn Stealer hits Claude, Codex, Gemini, Cline, OpenCode and Kilo on macOS. Stolen data includes access and refresh tokens, prompt histories, conversation databases and MCP configurations holding API keys, potentially exposing connected source-control, cloud and ticketing systems. Remus is assessed as a Lumma Stealer variant using EtherHiding C2 resolution via Ethereum smart contracts.

Who's governing your AI? A trust framework for enterprise agents and models

DigiCert pitches AI Trust framework using PKI, DNS policy records and workload identity to govern shadow AI agents across enterprises.

The Register-sponsored piece outlines DigiCert's AI Trust framework for governing AI agents, built on PKI, DNS, and attestation, citing IBM's 2026 Cost of a Data Breach report that 68% of organizations lack AI governance or shadow AI detection. The approach treats agent identity as workload identity aligned with IETF WIMSE, NIST CSF 2.0, and SPIFFE/SPIRE, using short-lived credentials instead of static API keys. DigiCert also proposes DMARC-style DNS agent policy records and an AI Agent Passport cryptographically binding agent identity to approved operations, with a unified kill switch.

ThreatsDay: 296K IoT Botnet, 100+ Water Systems Targeted, SharePoint RCE Chain + 27 New Stories

Weekly ThreatsDay bulletin details a ShinyHunters-style social engineering hit on ReliaQuest, the 296,000-device Dysphoria IoT botnet, and several new malware families.

ReliaQuest confirmed a social engineering attack on August 22, 2026, in which an attacker used a fake SSO page and MFA push approval to gain brief view-only access to an identity dashboard, with tactics matching ShinyHunters, which has since listed the firm on its leak portal. The Shadowserver Foundation reported the Dysphoria botnet has compromised nearly 296,000 IoT devices for DDoS attacks and recently added residential proxy capability. Cisco Talos documented JWR, an operator-driven phishing-as-a-service framework linked to The Outsider that harvests credentials, identity documents, and 2FA codes over an encrypted WebSocket. New malware coverage includes the Octagon Android fraud bot ($1,400/month), the C2Looper Rust backdoor delivered via ClickFix, and the Aeternum loader that moved C2 to the Polygon blockchain.

50,000 Stripe Secrets Leaked in Public Code

Over 50,000 Stripe merchant API keys leaked via public code and logs; 659 merchant accounts' data offered on trading forum.

Ransomnews researchers identified over 50,000 unique Stripe merchant API keys exposed in public GitHub repositories, GitHub Actions logs, and misconfigured web servers. A dataset on a data-trading forum dated August 18, 2026 contained live keys for 659 merchant accounts plus roughly 35 GB of customer and payment data. Researchers demonstrated a leaked key enabled accessing customer lists, creating fraudulent payment links, and making test charges within 17 hours. Stripe itself was not compromised; over 3,000 misconfigured web servers revealed Stripe-related strings, with about 12% containing working keys.

Data access: the hidden cost of security vendor lock-in

Elastic compares SIEM data egress cost, latency, and fidelity across CrowdStrike, Microsoft, Google, and Splunk, arguing vendors engineer lock-in.

Elastic Security Labs published an opinion piece comparing how major SIEM and security vendors handle data egress, based on each vendor's public documentation as of September 2026. It rates CrowdStrike Falcon Data Replicator and Palo Alto Networks XSIAM Event Forwarding as restricted (paid add-ons with batch delays), Microsoft as partially open, Splunk as open, and Elastic as open with no export license. The piece argues frictionless ingestion paired with licensed or delayed egress is an intentional lock-in business model, and cites CrowdStrike's 2026 Global Threat Report eCrime breakout time of 29 minutes to argue real-time telemetry access is now essential.
