Homebrew 7.0.0 is out, here’s what changed for security

Homebrew 7.0.0 closes eight security advisories, including a High sudo execution bug fixed in 6.0.12, and ships brew vulns vulnerability scanning.

Homebrew 7.0.0 closes eight security advisories rated one High, two Moderate, and five Low. The High flaw let unsigned cask removal metadata execute commands with sudo (fixed in 6.0.12), while the 7.0.0 Moderate closes a LaunchServices escape that let a malicious cask execute code outside the macOS install sandbox. The release ships brew vulns, which checks installed formulae against OSV.dev, extends build attestation verification to third-party tap bottles, and replaces Bubblewrap with Landlock sandboxing on Linux.

Mozilla Revokes Firefox and Thunderbird Linux Signing Key After Key Lands in Private Repo

Mozilla revoked the Firefox and Thunderbird Linux RPM signing subkey after an unencrypted copy landed in a private repo; no unauthorized access found.

Mozilla revoked the OpenPGP signing subkey (fingerprint 09BE ED63 F346 2A2D FFAB 3B87 5ECB 6497 C1A2 0256) used for Firefox and Thunderbird Linux downloads after an unencrypted copy was committed to one of its private repositories, citing reason code 2, 'key material has been compromised.' Audit records showed no sign of unauthorized access, and a replacement subkey (827E 6586 0867 9618 CD34 9F93 678E 455D 7676 7AA3) valid until August 5, 2028 was published. Users who verify signatures manually or install from Mozilla RPM packages may need to import the new key and remove the old one. The rotation came roughly seven months ahead of Mozilla's usual two-year subkey cycle.

AmnesiaStealer Gives Attackers Live Control of Victims’ macOS Browsers

Jamf Threat Labs analyzed AmnesiaStealer, a Rust-based macOS infostealer spread via fake GitHub pages that also grants live hidden browser control.

AmnesiaStealer is a three-stage Rust infostealer distributed through counterfeit GitHub download pages using the ClickFix technique, a lure shared with Atomic Stealer and MacSync campaigns. It harvests the keychain, 16 Chromium browsers, Apple Notes, Telegram and documents, reusing a password captured via a fake installer dialog. A third-stage stream module clones the victim's browser profile headlessly and lets operators drive the session via Chrome DevTools Protocol, while persistence uses a LaunchDaemon impersonating Apple's com.apple.ReportCrash.agent. On macOS 26 it may replace Chrome's Safe Storage key, a useful detection signal.

Parallels Desktop Flaw Lets Non-Admin Mac Users Gain Root, but Intel Macs Can't Install Fix

JFrog disclosed CVE-2026-90894, a 7.8-rated local privilege escalation in Parallels Desktop for Mac, patched only in version 27, which Intel Macs cannot install.

JFrog researcher Yuval Moravchick disclosed CVE-2026-90894 (dubbed ParaShells, CVSS 7.8), a local privilege escalation in Parallels Desktop for Mac that lets non-admin users run code as root. The root-level prl_disp_service listens on a world-writable socket, and argument injection into a tar command via QProcess::splitCommand and the --use-compress-program option yields code execution as root, demonstrated on Parallels Desktop 26.4.0 build 57513 on Apple silicon. The fix appears in version 27.0.0, but Parallels Desktop 27 requires Apple silicon, leaving Intel Macs on the 26.x line with no build JFrog describes as fixed. No exploitation in the wild has been reported and Parallels has not published a statement.

Malicious Apache Modules Hijack Brazilian Government Site Traffic to Push Betting Pages

Check Point links Gambling Goblin, a Chinese-speaking cluster, to malicious Apache modules hijacking Brazilian government servers to promote betting sites.

Check Point Research tracks Gambling Goblin, a Chinese-speaking cluster, installing malicious Apache reverse-proxy modules on compromised Brazilian government and education web servers since mid-2025. The modules divert visitors to gambling and fake app-store pages while stripping the site's security headers, likely for large-scale SEO manipulation. The group's Linux arsenal includes DownPro, AlphaAgent, oRAT, a 3snake-based credential stealer, and SSH brute-forcing tools, and it is tied to Trend Micro's Earth Berberoka. Related SEO-fraud campaigns on .gov.br domains were documented by ESET (GhostRedirector), Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, and Hunt.io.

Gaming the system: how a Chinese-speaking actor turned Brazilian government sites into an SEO weapon

Check Point identifies Chinese-speaking group Gambling Goblin hijacking Brazilian government domains via malicious Apache modules for SEO-manipulated gambling phishing.

Check Point Research tracks a sustained campaign since mid-2025 against Brazilian government and educational organizations by Gambling Goblin, a Chinese-speaking cybercrime cluster linked to Earth Berberoka. Attackers compile and install malicious Apache modules that silently reverse-proxy visitors to phishing pages impersonating Google Play, Microsoft Store, and Amazon, chaining compromised high-reputation domains to inflate search rankings. The group deploys a heavily obfuscated Linux toolkit including DownPro, AlphaAgent, oRAT, a 3snake-based credential stealer, and SSH brute-forcers, with parallel phishing networks localized for Vietnamese, Spanish, and English victims.

The Coding-Agent Trap: When a "Free" LLM Endpoint Is the Adversary, (Mon, Aug 31st)

A SANS honeypot caught a real coding-agent session routed to a rogue "free" LLM endpoint, exposing a Windows user's transcript and tool outputs.

A SANS analyst describes how an internet-exposed inference honeypot was discovered, relabeled with sought-after model names like DeepSeek, and enrolled in infrastructure serving "free" LLM backends. On 2026-08-30 an opencode terminal coding agent sent an 88-message, 224 KB transcript 210 times in 91 seconds via a China Unicom relay, exposing directory listings, tool outputs and read file portions. The analyst frames tool-enabled agents treating model endpoints as trusted control planes as a novel risk — a "rogue model endpoint" that could request tool executions on the user's machine.

AmnesiaStealer Hijacks Chromium Sessions to Give Attackers Live Browser Control on macOS

Jamf details AmnesiaStealer, a new Rust-based macOS infostealer that hijacks Chromium sessions for live attacker-controlled browser access and steals Keychain data.

Jamf Threat Labs disclosed a three-stage macOS infostealer called AmnesiaStealer distributed via a fake GitHub download page using a ClickFix-style lure that tricks users into pasting a Base64 command into Terminal. The Rust payload harvests the Keychain, Apple Notes, Telegram sessions, Safari cookies, and 16 Chromium-family browsers, and captures the system password via a native prompt validated with dscl. A remotely fetched stream_module gives operators hidden, interactive browser control via the Chrome DevTools Protocol, streaming a live session at roughly 3fps. It persists via a root LaunchDaemon impersonating Apple's crash reporter and leverages the TCC bypass CVE-2020-9771 against macOS Catalina.
