Microsoft: Windows KB5124010 update crashes some games and apps

Microsoft says Windows 11 preview update KB5124010 crashes some games and apps that use AC-3 audio.

Microsoft confirmed that some games and applications using AC-3 Dolby Digital decoding crash after the optional September 2026 Windows 11 preview update KB5124010. Affected apps may fail to launch, close without warning, or break only when features such as music playback are used. The update installs only if users choose it, or automatically on Windows 11 24H2 when early updates are enabled. Microsoft said many modern apps are unaffected and that a fix is in progress without a published timeline.
