On October 8, 2026, Anthropic announced a long-term effort it calls its Cyber Mission (a framing used by Cyber Security News and GBHackers), combining Claude models, Anthropic engineers, threat research, and—per Cyber Security News—funding to help defenders protect critical infrastructure and open-source software. Its Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP) brings frontier models, on-site engineers, and threat research to operational technology environments that are difficult to patch safely. Reports disagree on partner count: CyberScoop and Cyber Security News say 11 partners—Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC, and Rockwell Automation—while GBHackers says 12 security partners without naming an additional firm. A free, opt-in OSS Scanner gives open-source maintainers periodic model-generated reports with explanations, proof-of-concept details (described by GBHackers as exploit reproducers), and proposed patches, without prior human review; CyberScoop warns the faster reports may contain inaccuracies, while Cyber Security News reports Anthropic expects a true-positive rate above 90%. Six months of scanning produced more than 29,000 candidate vulnerabilities, of which about 6,000 were manually reviewed or triaged; GBHackers adds that of 97 critical/high findings reviewed by penetration testers, 85 met coordinated-disclosure criteria. Project Glasswing has been folded into an expanded Cyber Verification Program. Anthropic says it has already offered frontier models to more than half of U.S. states and large operators for code scanning, patching, incident response, and red teaming, with a longer-term goal of automated triage, patching, and new architectures.
- Anthropic launched the initiative on October 8, 2026, branded Cyber Mission by two of three reports.
- The Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP) pairs Claude models, on-site engineers, and threat research with partners focused on operational technology that is difficult to patch safely.
- Partner count is disputed: CyberScoop and Cyber Security News report 11 partners; GBHackers reports 12. Named partners include Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto…
- The free, opt-in OSS Scanner delivers unreviewed model-generated reports with explanations, proof-of-concept details, and proposed patches to open-source maintainers.
- CyberScoop cautions that faster reports may contain inaccuracies; Cyber Security News says Anthropic expects a true-positive rate above 90%.
- Six months of scanning identified more than 29,000 candidate vulnerabilities, with roughly 6,000 manually reviewed or triaged.
- Of 97 critical/high findings reviewed by penetration testers, 85 met coordinated-disclosure criteria, per GBHackers.
- Project Glasswing has been folded into an expanded Cyber Verification Program.
