Walmart will let any account link AI shopping agents next month
October 21: The reports add the default-approval disagreement, no Walmart+ requirement, usual returns, and Amazon’s blocks on Perplexity and Muse.
Walmart will open an MCP Agent Gateway next month so any account can let approved AI agents shop, with separate Agent Profiles and spending controls.
Walmart announced an MCP Agent Gateway so approved AI agents can search inventory and buy on Walmart and Sam’s Club, including accounts without Walmart+. Agent Profiles, due next month, are created on first use, separate agent orders, and can be deleted or turned off. The Verge reports purchases require approval by default, or a budget such as $100; TechCrunch reports customers can require approval or set a spending cap. Walmart’s terms bar actions beyond shopper intent, payment-data access, and payment-method changes, and noncompliant agents are blocked. Usual returns still apply if an agent misbehaves, according to TechCrunch. Walmart already works with Meta’s Muse, ChatGPT, and Gemini, while Amazon has blocked shopping agents.
