OpenAI offers U.S. labs free GPT-Rosalind seats
OpenAI’s Rosalind Academic Plan gives eligible U.S. university labs up to 30 free seats for a year.
OpenAI launched the Rosalind Academic Plan so scientists at eligible U.S. university labs can use GPT-Rosalind, a life-sciences model paired with the Rosalind Workbench. The plan covers medicinal chemistry, genomics, drug design, and wet-lab or laboratory assistance, and OpenAI also says other commercial frontier models are included. Eligible labs may get up to 30 free Business Standard seats for as long as 12 months. API access is excluded, and GPT-Rosalind remains subject to trusted-access approval. OpenAI vets the institution, principal investigator or lead researcher, and intended use, continues monitoring, and applies extra checks for highly sensitive applications. The two reports agree that research data is not used for training by default; they do not state a material disagreement.
- OpenAI announced the Rosalind Academic Plan on 15–16 October 2026 for academic research labs at U.S. universities.
- Eligible labs can receive up to 30 Business Standard seats at no cost for up to 12 months, including GPT-Rosalind and, per OpenAI, other commercial frontier models.
- GPT-Rosalind is a life-sciences model used through the Rosalind Workbench for medicinal chemistry, genomics, drug design, and wet-lab or laboratory assistance.
- API access is not included, and GPT-Rosalind still requires trusted-access approval.
- OpenAI verifies the institution, principal investigator or lead researcher, and intended use, then monitors activity, with extra checks for highly sensitive applications.
- Shared research data is not used for model training by default.
