Replit CEO touts agent-run company, disputes Anthropic exit
Replit’s CEO says agents now do routine work and claims the company left Anthropic for OpenAI, a split sources dispute.
Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, Replit CEO Amjad Masad said AI agents have changed how the company operates, likening it to a self-driving company in which agents handle routine work while people provide judgment and taste. He described support tickets being triaged by an agent that reviews GitHub issues, the codebase, and Linear tickets before a person decides and can deploy another agent to patch, shifting employees toward prioritization, architecture, and creative work. Masad also said Replit is no longer working with Anthropic and has favored OpenAI models Sol and Astra over Claude on cost, partnership terms, and performance for building applications. Sources disagree on that split: Replit announced an OpenAI partnership in August, but a person familiar with the deal said the Anthropic relationship remained in place, and a September post still listed Claude Fable 5 and 5.1 in Replit Agent production. He added that enterprise contracts rose from about 2% of revenue last year to 15%, with more than half of revenue now B2B, and discussed sandboxing and authorization for safer agent deployment.
