AI Boosts SOC Analyst Capacity but Limits Skill Development
Swimlane survey of 500 professionals finds AI frees SOC capacity but may stall analyst skill growth.
Swimlane polled 500 security professionals and leaders at US and UK organizations using AI for its report, The New SOC Career Ladder. Forty-seven percent cited greater capacity as a top impact, 43% spend less time on repetitive work, and 92% said they could identify an incorrect or incomplete AI recommendation. Twenty-four percent said AI has limited skill-building, and 47% expect a steeper path into the profession, including higher entry requirements or fewer chances for junior analysts. The report calls for formal AI oversight and structured training so investigative judgment is not lost as routine work is automated.
