Google Automatically Adds Your Phone Number to Every Google Account on Your Android Phone
Google’s default Android setting automatically attaches verified phone numbers to every signed-in Google account.
Google’s Android Phone number verification setting is on by default and automatically attaches verified phone numbers to every Google account signed in on a device, including accounts added later. Android Authority reported unexpected verification emails, and Google’s support documentation was updated between August and October 2025 to describe the account-wide linking. The article says this is an account setting rather than a breach, and the documentation does not claim the number becomes publicly visible. Turning the setting off does not remove numbers already stored; those must be deleted individually from each account.
