The mental health of young men is declining. Experts warn it could get worse
Canadian data show mood and anxiety disorders rose among men aged 15 to 24 from 2012 to 2022.
CBC reports that among Canadian men aged 15 to 24, self-reported mood disorders rose from 11% to 16% and generalized anxiety from 4% to 10% between 2012 and 2022, while very good or excellent mental health fell from 70% to 52%. Men are about three times as likely as women to die by suicide, which is the second-leading cause of death for males aged 15 to 34 after unintentional injuries. Researchers cite isolation, social media, influencer culture, and sports betting; emergency visits for gambling disorders doubled after 2022, largely among young men.
