IonQ’s $1.2 billion acquisition of Elisity is trying to position it for quantum cybersecurity

IonQ agreed to buy zero-trust vendor Elisity for $1.2 billion in stock to sell quantum security.

IonQ announced a $1.2 billion all-stock acquisition of Elisity, pairing IonQ’s post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution with Elisity’s enterprise zero-trust microsegmentation. Elisity, founded in 2019, has more than 100 global customers; one analyst put the headline price near $13 million per deployment and said little of the product is quantum-specific. IonQ pointed to a more than $10 billion microsegmentation market and U.S. federal PQC migration demand, while commentators stressed integration risk and IonQ’s need for nearer-term security revenue.

IonQ to buy zero-trust security firm Elisity in deal valued at up to $1.3 billion

IonQ will acquire zero-trust firm Elisity for up to $1.3 billion to pair access control with post-quantum security.

IonQ said it will acquire zero-trust network security firm Elisity in an all-stock deal valued at up to $1.3 billion, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 pending regulatory approval. Elisity, founded in 2019, sells policy controls for users, devices, workloads, and AI agents and reports more than 100 deployments with revenue and customers doubling year over year. IonQ plans to combine that access layer with its post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution business, citing both machine-speed attacks and harvest-now-decrypt-later risk. The companies also referenced faster government and industry timelines for post-quantum migration, including a US shift from 2035 to 2030.

IonQ to Acquire Zero Trust Firm Elisity for Up to $1.3 Billion

IonQ will acquire zero-trust firm Elisity for up to $1.3 billion in stock.

IonQ signed a definitive agreement to acquire zero-trust software company Elisity in a stock-only transaction worth up to $1.3 billion, including up to $150 million contingent on performance. Closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the IonQ share price collared between $33.07 and $49.61. Elisity, founded in 2019, has more than 100 customer deployments and has raised over $70 million; IdentityGraph enforces least-privilege access for users, devices, workloads, and AI agents. The companies plan to add cryptographic inventory and risk data so customers can prioritize post-quantum upgrades, and Elisity's management will remain.

IonQ Targets Quantum Error-Correction Bottleneck With Single-CPU DecoderIonQ Says Sin

IonQ says its quantum error-correction decoder runs in real time on one CPU, adding as little as 0.02% delay.

IonQ says it built an end-to-end quantum error-correction decoder that runs in real time on one conventional CPU. In simulations of up to 408 logical qubits across 88 memory blocks and magic factories, the decoder added as little as 0.02% processing time under standard noise. The company argues classical decoding overhead need not grow exponentially as systems add logical qubits or circuit depth. Research lead Nicolas Delfosse called real-time decoding across hundreds of logical qubits a milestone toward fault-tolerant machines.
