Open-source "BootLoops" harness supports AI models in performing precise scientific calculations
Anthropic visiting researcher released BootLoops, an open-source harness that helped Claude complete exact scientific calculations.
Matthew Schwartz, a Harvard physicist and visiting Anthropic researcher, described BootLoops, an open-source harness for exact scientific calculations with Claude. Over three months the team produced 36 manuscripts across 18 fields; Claude computed 30 particle-physics integrals, 15 of them new, and solved a long-standing neutral-biodiversity equation. Other work analyzed 5.7 billion mutation pairs from the 1000 Genomes Project, checked 4,452 economics replication packages, and built a word-stress database covering 6,072 languages. Schwartz said Claude often declares success too early, favors brute force, and still needs domain experts to set direction.
