Sega pulls Total War: Shogun 2 remaster from sale following disastrous launch

Sega pulled the Total War: Shogun 2 remaster from sale after a bug-ridden launch and suspected AI art issues.

Sega and Creative Assembly removed Total War: Shogun 2 — Complete Edition from storefronts, including Steam, after a disastrous Tuesday launch. The 2011 strategy-game remaster bundled all DLC and promised improved visuals, 1440p and 4K UI scaling, and modernized controls, but drew an Overwhelmingly Negative Steam rating over bugs and artwork users believe was damaged by AI upscaling. Existing owners can still access Complete Edition, and the companies said they will reinstate the original game while working with development partner Mataboo on fixes.

Nvidia's first GPU: GeForce 256

A retro blog recounts Nvidia’s 1999 GeForce 256, marketed as its first GPU, and Sega’s earlier bailout.

A retro-computing post recalls that Nvidia released the GeForce 256 on October 11, 1999, and marketed it as a GPU, citing its hardware transform-and-lighting engine. The card mainly benefited low-end CPUs, while faster processors could still do that work in software. The post also describes Sega’s roughly $5 million 1996 investment after a failed Dreamcast chip project and Nvidia’s December 15, 2000 purchase of most of 3dfx’s intellectual property.
