Ransomware affiliates using Claude left chats and tools exposed
Original title: Hackers Use Claude AI to Plan Ransomware Attacks, Then Accidentally Expose Their Secrets
SOCRadar found 46 INC encryptor builds, notes on 62 organizations, and more than $23,920 in recorded AI spend.
SOCRadar's Threat Research Unit says ransomware affiliates used OpenCode with commercial models, including Claude Opus 4.6 and Kimi K3, to plan intrusions, review stolen data, and draft extortion. An open server exposed chat sessions, credentials, campaign notes, Phantom framework code, and links to INC Ransomware and The Gentlemen activity. Records named 62 organizations, though only four were publicly listed for extortion, and a September 30 screenshot showed an encryptor running. Operator notes claim exploitation of FortiClient EMS, SimpleHelp, and cPanel/WHM flaws, which SOCRadar did not independently verify.
Unconfirmed: CVE exploitation figures come from the operators' own records and were not independently verified by SOCRadar.
- STRU reviewed 8,257 messages across 133 sessions found in late September 2026.
- Operators prepared 46 INC encryptor builds for six victims.
- A planned October 1, 2026 encryptor deployment was not confirmed.
- SimpleHelp records claim 242 affected IP addresses; CISA has separately warned CVE-2024-57727 is exploited.
- Researchers found six further exposed servers after the first open host.

Ransomware operators used commercial AI tools to help plan intrusions, manage victim information and prepare extortion, according to a new investigation. But the systems they relied on also kept detailed records of their work. A publicly accessible server exposed AI chat sessions, stolen credentials, campaign notes and source code, giving researchers a view into the […]
