CVE-2023-26360 is an improper access control flaw (CISA categorizes it as deserialization of untrusted data) in Adobe ColdFusion 2018 (Update 15 and earlier) and ColdFusion 2021 (Update 5 and earlier). It can be triggered over the network with no authentication and no user interaction. A successful attacker achieves arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user, giving them full control of the ColdFusion server. Deserialization of Untrusted Data RCE in Adobe ColdFusion (CVE-2023-29300)

Adobe ColdFusion contains a deserialization of untrusted data flaw (CWE-502): the application deserializes attacker-supplied, untrusted serialized data without adequate validation, allowing an attacker to trigger code execution on the ColdFusion server. Successful exploitation yields arbitrary code execution in the context of the running ColdFusion server, a foothold that can be leveraged for further compromise and, per CISA, ransomware deployment. Any organization running Adobe ColdFusion is affected, especially internet-facing instances; the CISA data does not enumerate specific affected version ranges, so operators should consult Adobe's advisory for the exact affected and fixed releases. The flaw was added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2024-01-08 with known ransomware use, and EPSS assigns a 100% probability of exploitation within 30 days (100th percentile); no public PoC is known, but the KEV listing and ransomware usage confirm active in-the-wild exploitation.

Adobe is warning customers of a critical ColdFusion pre-authentication RCE bug, tracked as CVE-2023-29300, which is actively exploited.

Adobe warns customers of a critical ColdFusion pre-authentication remote code execution vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2023-29300 (CVSS score 9.8), that is actively exploited in attacks in the wild.

“Adobe is aware that CVE-2023-29300 has been exploited in the wild in very limited attacks targeting Adobe ColdFusion,” reads a statement sent by the company to its customers.

An unauthenticated visitor can exploit the vulnerability to remotely execute commands on vulnerable Coldfusion 2018, 2021, and 2023 servers.

The issue is a deserialization of untrusted data that was discovered by the security researcher Nicolas Zilio from CrowdStrike.

Adobe has not disclosed the technical details of the issue either the way threat actors exploited it in the wild.

In March 2023, U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added a critical vulnerability in Adobe ColdFusion, tracked as CVE-2023-26360 (CVSS score: 8.6), to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog.

The flaw is an Improper Access Control that can allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability could also lead to arbitrary file system read and memory leak.
