Differential Privacy Meets Fixed Parameter Tractability: Algorithms and Lower Bounds

Epsilon-Nash Equilibria in History-Dependent SA-MDPs

Researchers give the first algorithm for computing epsilon-approximate history-dependent equilibria in state-adversarial Markov decision processes with observation-perturbing adversaries.

The paper studies state-adversarial Markov decision processes (SA-MDPs) where an adversary knowing the true state perturbs observations within state-dependent proximity sets each step. The authors prove universal history-dependent equilibrium policies do not exist and reduce SA-MDPs to a strategically equivalent constrained zero-sum one-sided partially observable stochastic game, enabling the first algorithmic route to epsilon-approximations of initial-state dependent equilibria. A threat actor with root-level access to adminmenueditor.com pushed trojanized Admin Menu Editor Pro versions 2.35 and 2.36 containing includes/wp-user-consent.php, which installed a web shell and created a hidden wp_-prefixed user account. At least 230 customers and roughly 1,500 sites installed the malicious update, with several hundred more downloads possibly affected. Developer Janis Elsts took the site offline after the attacker recompromised the clean 2.36 release; version 2.34 and the free plugin are believed unaffected.

Not All Relations Are Equal: Relation-Balanced and Calibrated Graph Learning for Provenance-Based Intrusion Detection

It calibrates reconstruction errors against each relation's benign error distribution to produce comparable anomaly evidence and reduce false alarms. On three DARPA E3 datasets, RECAL achieves F1 scores of 99.99%, 99.93%, and 99.99%, outperforming the best baseline on each dataset, and reduces mean false positive rate by approximately 105X, 4X, and 41X versus the lowest-FPR baseline.

Operators bought and sold at least 100 Telegram usernames and anonymous virtual numbers via Fragment Market to strengthen OPSEC, linking multiple usernames to single Telegram accounts. Recorded Future warns Tajin Group's TTPs are likely to be replicated by other vendors on Chinese-language guarantee marketplaces at global scale.

A DShield honeypot captured multi-architecture RedTail Linux executables (ARM, ARM64, i686, RISC-V, x86-64) deployed via shell scripts. Dynamic analysis of the UPX-packed, statically linked x86-64 sample (SHA-256 63be5f38...d35e) in an isolated Ubuntu 24.04 VM on Proxmox showed it renamed its process via prctl(PR_SET_NAME), killed a filesystem-monitoring process, and opened a TCP listening socket while surviving processes posed as php-fpm or PostgreSQL-like workers. Differential memory images pre- and post-execution were captured from the hypervisor for forensics.

Attacker Hijacks AI Coding Assistant Session, Spreads Shai-Hulud Across About 100 Repositories

Mandiant says an attacker hijacked an AI coding-assistant session at a SaaS provider and spread the Shai-Hulud worm across roughly 100 repositories, stealing secrets.

Mandiant's September 2026 report describes an attacker hijacking an active AI coding-assistant session at an unnamed SaaS provider, then getting a poisoned package recommendation accepted and installing an infostealer via a malicious PyPI package. The attacker stole GitHub OAuth tokens, deployed the self-spreading Shai-Hulud worm across approximately 100 internal repositories, and stole repository secrets and product source code. Poisoning a package in the company's official namespace caused a second employee to pull the compromised version and become infected. Mandiant recommends verifying AI-recommended dependencies against checksums and allowlists, keeping secrets out of extension reach, and routing dependency traffic through internal repositories.

Unauthenticated RCE Flaws Could Expose 200,000+ WordPress Sites to Takeover

Two unauthenticated CVSS 9.8 code-injection and PHP object injection flaws in The Events Calendar plugin expose 200,000+ WordPress sites to RCE and takeover.

Defiant identified two critical vulnerabilities in The Events Calendar WordPress plugin, which has over 600,000 active installations. CVE-2026-78159, unauthenticated code injection during single-event HTML processing, was patched in version 6.17.3.1 on August 25; CVE-2026-78006, unauthenticated PHP object injection via event comments, was patched in 6.17.4.1 on September 10. Both independent chains lead to remote code execution and full site compromise. Roughly 240,000 sites run versions vulnerable to both flaws, and about 300,000 downloads between September 10 and 14 suggest half of installations may still lack the second fix.

CenterPoint Energy, a utility serving about 7 million metered customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas, confirmed in an SEC filing that an unauthorized third party obtained customer personal information via an external-facing system. A threat actor using the alias "4d722e4d656f77" leaked 7.49 million records containing names, phone numbers, service and billing addresses, account numbers, billing amounts, and partial Social Security numbers. The actor claims the data was exfiltrated by iterating through millions of IDs on CenterPoint's public API, which lacked rate limiting and WAF protections. Electric and gas services were not impacted, but multiple federal class-action lawsuits have already been filed.

Can We Stop The Ads? Taxonomy and Characterization of Smartphone Splash Ads and Existing Countermeasures

BambooToken malware controls Windows and Linux systems via MQTT

Infection occurs via DLL side-loading through digitally signed Tendyron OnKey USB-token software or an impersonated Kingsoft Office installer; dead code suggests keylogging, clipboard theft, audio/webcam capture, and screenshot modules. Telemetry identified roughly a dozen compromised entities, mostly in Asia and South America, including a Hong Kong GitLab server and possibly users of the SpeedCN VPN service. Targeting patterns are consistent with China-aligned operations, though no attribution to a known cluster was made.
