Nintendo Switch QR Code Vulnerability Lets Nearby Attackers Execute Unauthorized Code

Nintendo patched CVE-2026-82079 (CVSS 8.4), a stack buffer overflow in Switch local wireless pairing enabling nearby attackers to execute code.

Nintendo Switch system update 23.0.0 fixes CVE-2026-82079, a stack-based buffer overflow in local wireless networking abused via the QR code sharing process, including Album's 'Send to Smartphone' and Mario Kart Live pairing. A nearby attacker who scans the displayed QR code can send crafted traffic and use return-oriented programming to achieve arbitrary code execution. CVSS scores are 8.4 (v3.1) and 7.0 (v4.0), both rated High. No in-the-wild exploitation is reported and Switch 2 systems are not affected.

Nintendo Switch Vulnerability Allows Attackers to Run Unauthorized Code on Your Console

Nintendo patched CVE-2026-82079, a CVSS 7.0 stack buffer overflow in original Switch local wireless allowing nearby code execution via QR-code workflows.

Nintendo patched CVE-2026-82079 (CVSS 4.0 base score 7.0, High), a stack-based buffer overflow in the original Switch's local wireless networking affecting firmware earlier than 23.0.0. An adjacent attacker must scan a QR code displayed by the console, via the Album "Send to Smartphone" feature or Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, before crafted packets can corrupt memory and enable return-oriented programming for arbitrary code execution. EPSS is approximately 0.16%, Switch 2 is not affected, and Nintendo's advisory was published September 10, 2026.

Can LLMs Engineer Their Own Agent Harness? ByteDance Seed’s HarnessDev Says Only 34 of 64 Changes Generalize

ByteDance Seed's HarnessDev benchmark finds LLM-built agent harnesses trail human engineering on code and search, with only 34 of 64 revisions generalizing.

Researchers from ByteDance Seed, SUTD, Georgia Tech, M-A-P, and TokenWave.AI introduce HarnessDev, a benchmark that evaluates the runnable agent harness an LLM writes rather than its answers, using Creation and Evolution stages across SWE-bench Pro, Terminal-Bench 2.1, MLE-bench, EQ-Bench3, and BrowseComp (2,207 instances). Six creator models including Opus 4.8, GPT-5.5, Gemini 3.1 Pro, DeepSeek V4 Pro, Qwen 3.7 Max, and Seed 2.0 Pro were tested; Opus 4.8 posted the best average of 67.8 versus an 86.2 human-engineered reference. Self-built harnesses beat references on writing and ML experimentation but lag badly on code and search, and quality proved executor-specific: Opus 4.8 fell from 69.3 to 33.0 on SWE-bench Pro when the executor was switched to Gemini. Evolution gains were small and noisy: of 64 adjacent changes, feedback and held-out scores agreed only 34 times (53.1%), and much generated state and memory code never executed.

China-Linked UNC3569 Exploited Sogou Input Method Flaw to Deploy GRAYRABBIT Backdoor

China-linked UNC3569 exploited a Sogou Input Method flaw to deploy GRAYRABBIT backdoor on Windows machines across East and Southeast Asia.

Gen Digital found that China-linked UNC3569, a hacker-for-hire group tracked by Google since 2021, exploited a flaw in Sogou Input Method's Windows sgbiz: link handler to reach a sandbox-disabled Chromium 80 build and exploit 2021's CVE-2021-38003 for code execution. The chain delivered GRAYRABBIT, a remote shell backdoor capable of file transfer and module loading, via a 7-Zip DLL sideloading trick gated on process count. Tencent fixed the handler flaw in April 2026 but the embedded browser remains outdated. Sogou has over 455 million monthly users and roughly 70% share of Chinese input methods.

Your passkeys can now move between password managers on Android

Google enabled direct password and passkey transfers between Android password managers, initiated from the destination app without unencrypted file exports.

Android now supports moving passwords and passkeys directly between password managers without exporting them to a file, replacing the previous unencrypted-export workflow. The transfer is initiated in the receiving app, which hands off to Android to detect installed managers and request authorization in the source app. The feature works today with Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden, and Dashlane, with more partners promised but unnamed. Google says data moves between apps in seconds and calls the handoff secure, without detailing the protections.

AWS’s new sign-up gives accounts spend caps, email invites, and agent-set permissions

AWS's new sign-up flow gives fresh accounts agent-configured permissions, email-based team access, and per-project monthly spend caps starting at $20.

New AWS customers can sign up with Google, GitHub, or Apple identities, start with $100 in Free Tier credits, and build inside a project where AWS and coding agents automatically configure permissions and install tools like the AWS CLI and Agent Toolkit. In a demo, an agent deployed a Lambda function, DynamoDB table, and API Gateway endpoint without any manually written IAM policies. Paid projects get monthly spend limits starting at $20 that pause the project when reached, and the gradual rollout applies to new customers only.

One Extension Could Hijack AI Assistants Across Chrome, Comet, Edge, Opera Neon and Claude

Researchers showed a single browser extension could hijack AI agents in Chrome, Edge, Comet, Opera Neon and Claude in Chrome, earning $20,000 in bounties.

Forever Security demonstrated that a browser extension with two common permissions could seize the trusted page controlling built-in AI assistants in five Chromium-based products and drive the agent, read local files, or access the camera. Chrome's flaw was fixed as CVE-2026-0628 (CVSS 8.8) in Chrome 143.0.7499.192, and Microsoft fixed CVE-2026-55945 (CVSS 4.2) in Edge 150.0.4078.48. Perplexity Comet was the worst case: a hijacked agent could read any file, leak browsing history, take screenshots, and act as the user via an unsecured test subdomain. All attacks require a malicious extension already installed; no in-the-wild exploitation or KEV listing was reported as of September 16, 2026.

Australia is replacing the Essential Eight with a new cyber framework. Here’s how exposure management can help you get ahead of it.

Australia's ASD is replacing the Essential Eight with an outcomes-based Essentials series covering IT, cloud, OT and likely agentic AI, with deprecation from mid-2027.

The Australian Signals Directorate announced in June 2026 that the Essential Eight will be replaced by an outcomes-focused Essentials series structured as chapters covering enterprise IT (including identity and SaaS), cloud, OT, and likely agentic AI. Deprecation begins around mid-2027 with full retirement around mid-2028, though timelines are targets; the Essential Eight is mandatory for roughly 98 non-corporate Commonwealth entities but voluntary for private firms. Tenable argues the shift demands continuous security posture evidence via exposure management rather than point-in-time checklist assessments.

New DDRop Attack Breaks Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP Confidential Computing

DDRop uses a sub-$200 DDR5 interposer to drop memory writes, breaking Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP confidentiality guarantees.

Researchers at KU Leuven, ETH Zurich, Durham University, and Google will present DDRop at ACM CCS 2026, a first active interposer attack on DDR5 that silently drops memory writes so processors keep reading stale encrypted data, exploiting the missing freshness guarantee in Intel TDX, Intel Scalable SGX, and AMD SEV-SNP. On Intel TDX's default logical integrity mode it enabled reading victim VM memory, toggling debug mode, and forging remote attestation; AMD SEV-SNP was limited to copying pages between VMs. TDX's stronger cryptographic integrity blocks cross-VM attacks but likely not attestation forgery. The team will release board designs, firmware, and attack code on GitHub; no evidence of real-world use exists and no simple patch is available.

GPT-6 Astra needs leaner prompts and fewer guardrails, OpenAI recommends

OpenAI's Eric Provencher advises developers using GPT-6 Astra to shorten skill descriptions, trim AGENTS.md reading requirements, relax approval rules, and define clear completion goals.

OpenAI's Eric Provencher published guidance on adapting developer setups when switching to GPT-6 Astra, arguing that overly long skill descriptions, blanket reading requirements, and rigid approval rules waste context or make the agent stop too early. Skills are Markdown prompt files whose names and descriptions enter Codex's context, and too many or conflicting skills cause truncation and wrong skill selection. He recommends selective document references in AGENTS.md, explicit permissions for safe operations like local test runs, and defining upfront what "done" means, since Astra may stop earlier than GPT-5.6 Sol even without restrictions.

The skb that wasn't freed - the Fragnesia primitive via Open vSwitch

Doyensec details CVE-2026-90049 in Open vSwitch, enabling deterministic Linux kernel local privilege escalation on default major distribution installs.

Doyensec reports that the Open vSwitch datapath strips the SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG flag from packets it is still forwarding, allowing an in-place decrypt to write attacker-chosen bytes into root-owned page cache — a Dirty COW-class primitive that re-opens the Fragnesia bug family. The issues are tracked as CVE-2026-90049, CVE-2026-89487, and CVE-2026-80977, and were reported to the kernel security team with fixes coordinated alongside OVS maintainers. A deterministic local privilege escalation works on default installs of Arch, Fedora, Debian, Amazon Linux, and RHEL where unprivileged user namespaces and openvswitch auto-loading are enabled; the fix landed in mainline and shipped in stable on 09/04/2026. The write technique builds on the earlier Fragnesia and Dirty Frag bugs, including CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500.

Adversary simulation: what you need to know

UK NCSC publishes guidance on adversary simulation, comparing full spectrum and assumed breach approaches across prerequisites, testing, and reporting phases.

NCSC guidance describes two adversary simulation approaches: full spectrum, starting outside the network with an end-to-end attack, and assumed breach, starting from an internal foothold. The preferred methodology spans three phases - prerequisites (scoping, passive reconnaissance, preparation), testing (active reconnaissance, initial access, internal phase, cleanup), and reporting. The document distinguishes adversary simulation from penetration testing and stresses customer-defined objectives and minimal information sharing.

GBHackers' 2026 buyer's guide compares 12 CASB-capable vendors, arguing standalone CASB pricing has dissolved into per-user SSE subscriptions.

The article evaluates twelve CASB-capable platforms including Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps, Palo Alto Networks' Prisma Access CASB, Netskope, iboss, Forcepoint ONE (Bitglass), Trend Micro Cloud App Security, and Skyhigh Security. It frames purchasing around SSE bundle economics, noting Defender for Cloud Apps ships inside Microsoft 365 E5 while Netskope, Zscaler, and Skyhigh price CASB into per-user SSE tiers. It also flags Saviynt, common on legacy roundups, as an IGA vendor rather than a true CASB.
