USN-8740-1: .NET vulnerabilities

Ubuntu issued USN-8740-1 fixing two .NET watch flaws, CVE-2026-58649 and CVE-2026-69806, enabling information exposure and privilege escalation.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-8740-1 addresses two vulnerabilities in .NET watch components. CVE-2026-58649 involves missing cross-origin WebSocket validation in BrowserRefreshServer that could expose sensitive information. CVE-2026-69806 involves improper information exposure through AspireServerService arguments, potentially allowing privilege elevation and arbitrary code execution.

Wireshark 4.6.8 patches 28 security bugs, nine in file parsers

Wireshark 4.6.8 fixes 28 security bugs, including nine crash-prone capture file parsers, misdecoded 5G fields, and memory-safety issues.

Wireshark 4.6.8 fixes 28 security bugs spanning advisories wnpa-sec-2026-64 through wnpa-sec-2026-91, including nine crash bugs in file parsers such as pcapng, Endace ERF and Tektronix K12xx that trigger when opening capture files. Fixes cover dissectors for RDP, SSH, Kerberos, H.245, CMS, C12.22 and several Bluetooth protocols, plus unnumbered memory-safety issues like a stack buffer overflow in the K12/RF5 writer. The release also corrects eight misdecoded 5G NAS/5GSM fields and moves the Unix extcap path to /usr/libexec/wireshark/extcap.

ST Engineering iDirect iQ-Series Terminals (Update A)

CISA advisory details four flaws in ST Engineering iDirect iQ-Series VSAT terminals <=4.5.2.1, enabling device data theft, CSRF-driven reboots, and local privilege escalation.

CISA's Update A to ICSA-26-183-01 covers ST Engineering iDirect iQ-Series, 3315-Series and 9-Series terminals at firmware <=4.5.2.1, deployed across communications, defense, energy and transportation. CVE-2026-38059 exposes unauthenticated /api/identity and /api/ endpoints leaking serial number, DID, TPK, MAC address and firmware version, potentially enabling terminal impersonation; CVE-2026-38057 is a CSRF flaw letting an attacker force terminal reboots and satellite link loss via /api/reboot. CVE-2026-38056 enables local privilege escalation using the factory-configured technician account (CVSS 3.1 8.8, CVSS 4.0 9.4), and CVE-2026-38058 exposes crackable MD5-crypt root password hashes. All four flaws were reported to CISA by Ahmed Alqahtani of Aramco.

Siemens Reyrolle 7SR5

CISA advisory covers 14 vulnerabilities, CVSS 9.8, in Siemens Reyrolle 7SR5 energy-sector protection relays before V2.70.

CISA advisory ICSA-26-258-05 covers 14 vulnerabilities in Siemens Reyrolle 7SR5 protection relays before V2.70, used in the energy sector worldwide, with aggregate CVSS v3 of 9.8. Flaws include Cesanta Mongoose web server issues (CVE-2024-42384 through CVE-2024-42392) and new bugs such as web-interface session-ID exposure enabling authentication bypass (CVE-2026-62645, CVSS 9.8), predictable session tokens (CVE-2026-62646, CVE-2026-62647), and pre-auth out-of-bounds writes (CVE-2026-62648). Siemens has released V2.70 and recommends updating to the latest version.

AI agent authorization risks remain a gap in new NIST-CISA token security guidance

NIST and CISA release IR 8587 guidance on securing signed tokens, but AI agent authorization and delegation risks remain out of scope.

NIST, with CISA support, published 'Protecting Tokens and Assertions from Forgery, Theft, and Misuse' (NIST IR 8587), recommending continuous monitoring and tighter token lifecycle controls for SSO and API access. The guidance does not yet fully address AI agent identity, delegation chains, or prompt injection steering agents with valid tokens, and NIST says new or expanded standards are needed. Experts recommend treating AI agents as low-trust non-human identities, maintaining agent inventories, expiring credentials after task completion, and requiring human approval for high-risk actions. The report references shared-signal mechanisms like CAEP and RISC, and follows a May incident where a CISA contractor GitHub repository exposed AWS and GitHub tokens.

CISA tells operators to harden Siemens S7 PLCs. Here’s how to do it without disrupting production

CISA, NSA, FBI and other agencies warn of active targeting of internet-exposed Siemens S7 PLCs and urge patching, exposure removal and hardening.

Joint advisory AA26-231A from the NSA, CISA, FBI, Department of Energy and EPA warns that actors are actively targeting Siemens S7 PLCs using internet scanning, AI-assisted scripts and libraries such as Snap7 and python-snap7 over S7comm on TCP port 102. The advisory covers S7-200 through S7-1500 series controllers and recommends patching, removing internet exposure, access controls, monitoring and disabling unneeded services. Siemens states no new S7 vulnerabilities are involved, only misconfigurations addressed in existing ProductCERT guidance SSB-104599. The article details how to apply each measure without breaking production dependencies such as remote I/O, HMI links and diagnostics.

CISA and NIST Release Technical Checklist for Safeguarding Identity Tokens From Theft and Misuse

CISA and NIST published NIST IR 8587, final guidance for protecting identity tokens from forgery, theft, replay, and signing-key compromise.

NIST Interagency Report 8587 (September 15, 2026) expands the IA-13 'Identity Providers and Authorization Servers' control from NIST SP 800-53 R5.1.1, guiding federal agencies and cloud providers on SSO, identity federation, and machine-to-machine authentication. It requires hardware-backed signing-key storage for moderate-impact systems, 90-day key rotation for high-impact systems, token lifetimes under one hour, and sender-constrained mechanisms such as mutual TLS and DPoP. The report cites incidents including forged SAML assertions that exposed over 60,000 emails from a federal agency. It also extends guidance to agentic AI systems using signed tokens and urges post-quantum cryptography migration planning.

Oracle Critical Security Update – 673 Vulnerabilities Patched Across Product Families

Oracle's September 2026 Critical Patch Update ships 673 patches across 17 product families, including 100+ critical and 240+ remotely exploitable flaws.

Oracle's September 2026 Critical Security Patch Update ships 673 patches covering 672 unique CVEs, with more than 130 additional CVEs resolved through bundled fixes, pushing the effective total past 800. Over 100 flaws are critical severity and more than 240 are remotely exploitable without authentication. Oracle E-Business Suite received 159 fixes, Fusion Middleware 153 (78 unauthenticated and network-exploitable), and Hyperion 102. No in-the-wild exploitation of these specific flaws is reported, but Oracle cites CISA's earlier 72-hour remediation order for actively exploited CVE-2026-21962 (CVSS 10.0).

Siemens Mendix SAML

Siemens Mendix SAML module fails signature validation, allowing unauthenticated account hijacking in specific SSO configurations (CVE-2026-80465).

CISA republished Siemens advisory SSA-887643 for CVE-2026-80465 (CVSS 8.7) in the Mendix SAML module, affecting Mendix 10/11-compatible versions before 4.2.3 and Mendix 9.24-compatible versions before 3.6.27. The module improperly validates SAML response signatures (CWE-347), letting unauthenticated remote attackers hijack an account in specific SSO configurations. Mendix has released fixed versions and recommends updating.
