IAM Compliance Requirements and Best Practices

A guide maps IAM compliance requirements across SOX, PCI DSS, HIPAA, ISO 27001 and NIST 800-53, urging verified enforcement over documented policies.

The guide argues IAM compliance requires demonstrating that access controls are enforced at runtime, not merely documented, highlighting gaps between policy intent and application-layer execution. It maps recurring requirements across SOX ITGCs, PCI DSS v4.0, HIPAA, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, NIST SP 800-53 and GDPR, covering least privilege, separation of duties, access certification and audit trails. It recommends continuous, evidence-backed verification and application-layer telemetry instead of relying on identity provider logs or quarterly access reviews.

LLMs and Contextual Integrity

Bruce Schneier highlights two papers: the CIMemories benchmark shows frontier LLMs leak memory attributes up to 69%, and an RL method reduces inappropriate disclosures.

Bruce Schneier discusses contextual integrity in LLMs, referencing the CIMemories benchmark, which uses synthetic profiles with 100+ attributes per user to test whether models with persistent memory disclose sensitive information appropriately. Evaluation showed frontier models exhibit up to 69% attribute-level violations, with GPT-5's violation rate rising from 0.1% to 9.6% across 40 tasks and reaching 25.1% with repeated prompting, showing unstable leakage behavior. A second paper introduces a reinforcement learning framework trained on a synthetic 700-example dataset that substantially reduces inappropriate disclosure while maintaining task performance, with improvements transferring to the human-annotated PrivacyLens benchmark.

Your Cloud Security Checklist Doesn't Work the Way You Think It Does

Intruder's 2026 Cloud Security Index found misconfiguration risk profiles differ sharply across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud across 3,000 organizations.

Intruder analyzed misconfiguration data from 3,000 organizations across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud for its 2026 Cloud Security Index. Weak IAM controls and missing logging affected 80-98% of accounts regardless of provider, while exposed services ranged from 76% on AWS to just 8% on Google Cloud. Top issues included S3 buckets without HTTPS enforcement (87% of AWS accounts), Entra ID users without MFA (55% of Azure accounts), and missing OS Login MFA (77% of Google Cloud accounts). Weak IAM prevalence rose with organization size, from 87% at SMEs to 98% at large enterprises, and midmarket organizations took the longest to remediate at 35 days on average.

OpenWAM: An Open, Modular Exploration Towards Systematic World-Action Model Pretraining

OpenWAM releases an open modular stack for world-action model pretraining, plus OpenWAM-alpha trained on about 6,400 hours of egocentric and robot data.

OpenWAM is an open research stack that factorizes World-Action Model pretraining into composable infrastructure, study, and model components with unified training, inference, and evaluation. Controlled experiments distill three principles on knowledge inheritance, world-action synergy, and out-of-domain generalization gains from embodied co-training. The resulting OpenWAM-alpha, pretrained on roughly 6,400 hours of egocentric human and robot data, achieves top-tier results across eight simulation benchmarks and real-robot tests spanning single-arm, bimanual, and dexterous embodiments. The full stack, including infrastructure, evaluation protocols, pretrained models, and data recipes, is released openly.

AWS Systems Manager Agent Vulnerability Allows Attackers to Bypass Port-Forwarding Restrictions

Critical SSRF flaw in AWS SSM Agent (CVE-2026-89049) lets authenticated users bypass link-local denylists and reach EC2 Instance Metadata Service for IAM credentials.

CVE-2026-89049 (Critical, CVSS v3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H) affects Amazon SSM Agent versions earlier than 3.3.4851.0, with the fix shipping in 3.3.4851.0. The remote-host port-forwarding feature's denylist for link-local addresses can be bypassed because equivalent address representations are not validated, enabling SSRF to restricted endpoints such as the EC2 Instance Metadata Service at 169.254.169.254. An attacker with authenticated AWS access and ssm:StartSession permission could retrieve instance profile IAM credentials and pivot to S3, Secrets Manager, Lambda, or other cloud resources depending on role permissions.

Nearly 1 in 10 Exposed LiteLLM Gateways Accepted the Example "sk-1234" Admin Key

Wiz found 294 of 3,074 internet-facing LiteLLM gateways accepted the documented default admin key sk-1234, exposing provider API keys and cloud IAM credentials.

Wiz Research's February Shodan scan found 3,074 LiteLLM gateways, 294 of which accepted the setup guide's sk-1234 admin key; 191 had no master key set and would accept any credential. The master key doubles as the authentication switch, and before 1.82.0-stable a gateway started without one granted every request full admin rights, exposing stored provider API keys, prompts, and MCP-connected tools. A documented pass-through endpoint lacks checks against private and cloud metadata addresses, letting an admin-key holder retrieve cloud IAM credentials, though no real-world abuse is reported. Related LiteLLM flaws include CVE-2026-59821 (disputed guardrail code execution), CVE-2026-59822 (CVSS 8.8, added to CISA KEV on September 2 and observed against Wiz honeypots), and CVE-2026-42271, used to install a cryptominer.

NIS2 compliance: Fixing IAM and access control before the 2026 audit

EU NIS2 enforcement deadlines approach; organizations are urged to prioritize service account inventory, lifecycle offboarding, and phishing-resistant MFA before audits.

EU member states are moving from NIS2 transposition into enforcement, with fines up to 10 million euros or 2% of global turnover for essential entities and personal liability for management bodies. The article argues access management is the fastest high-ROI starting point, estimating 2-4 weeks to enforce fine-grained password policy, vault shared credentials, and deploy phishing-resistant MFA versus 6-12 months for supply chain risk management. It flags three common pre-audit failures: unmanaged service accounts and API keys, dormant accounts from broken offboarding, and SMS OTP instead of phishing-resistant MFA under NIST SP 800-63B. Hackers Use LLMs to Generate Exploit Scripts and Automate Post-Exploitation Across Latin America

Unit 42 says Latin American attackers used LLMs to automate post-exploitation in campaigns hitting Mexican government, water utilities, and Brazilian financial firms.

Cluster CL-CRI-1131 compromised a transportation organization, Mexican federal ministries, and water utilities in Mexico and Ecuador, using native Windows tools and Volume Shadow Copies to dump the SAM registry hive and NTDS.dit. Cluster CL-CRI-1163 targeted Brazilian financial organizations with job-themed phishing, custom RATs, and a Go-based reverse SOCKS5 tunneling utility called SockTz, with nine versions deployed within roughly two hours. Attack Paths Into VMs in the Cloud

Unit 42 maps attack paths into AWS, Azure, and GCP VMs through intended features like startup scripts and SSH key pushes.

Palo Alto Unit 42 reviewed attack vectors against virtual machine services on AWS, Azure, and GCP, finding that 11% of internet-exposed cloud hosts carry Critical or High severity vulnerabilities. The attack paths rely on legitimate features such as EC2 User Data, VM custom data, EC2 Instance Connect, SSM Run Command, and serial consoles rather than vulnerabilities, and exploiting them requires attackers to first obtain control plane permissions. A compromised VM exposes not only its data but the workload identity and cloud permissions assigned to it, making identity compromise potentially more damaging than data theft. The firm places mitigation responsibility on cloud users and administrators.

LiteLLM Flaws Let Attackers Execute Code as Root and Steal Cloud Credentials
