Off Guard: Breaking LiteLLM from authentication bypass to cloud compromise

Wiz found LiteLLM auth bypass (CVE-2026-59822) and post-auth RCE (CVE-2026-59821) chainable to cloud compromise; the bypass is in CISA KEV with in-the-wild exploitation.

Wiz scanned roughly 3,074 internet-facing LiteLLM deployments and found 9.6% accepted the default master key sk-1234 or required no authentication, making post-auth attacks effectively pre-auth. The MCP endpoint accepts any Bearer token and grants a valid session (CVE-2026-59822), confirmed exploited in the wild via honeypots and added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Custom code guardrails allow post-auth root-level RCE via exec(compile(...)) (CVE-2026-59821), while pass-through endpoints lack URL validation, enabling cloud credential theft in post-auth scenarios. All assigned vulnerabilities have been patched; the research was presented at DEF CON 34.

Hackers Chain Chrome and Windows Zero-Days in New BlueMoon Exploit Kit Attacks

Multiple espionage actors, mostly China-nexus, are chaining Chrome V8 and Windows kernel zero-days (CVE-2026-85046, CVE-2026-85880) via the BlueMoon exploit kit against government and defense targets.

Proofpoint identified a new exploit kit dubbed BlueMoon chaining a Chromium V8 type-confusion RCE (CVE-2026-85046), a V8 sandbox escape, and a Windows kernel LPE (CVE-2026-85880). At least four distinct threat clusters, most with suspected China nexus, adopted the kit within days starting with TA412 (Violet Typhoon/APT31) on August 28, 2026. Both Chrome-side flaws were patch-gap zero-days with roughly a four-week exploitation window; the Windows LPE only works on Windows 10 and Server 2019/2022. TA412 used spearphishing posing as university interns to deliver the GemStone browser backdoor disguised as a Google Gemini extension; other clusters delivered ShadowPad via DLL sideloading and a Rust loader against targets in aerospace, government, and finance.

Hackers Drain $320 Million From Liquid Network, Then Return Most of It

Hackers exploited an Elements bug to drain about 4,000 BTC (~$320M) from Liquid Network's federation wallet, then returned 3,400 BTC after Blockstream patched.

An attacker drained roughly 4,000 of 4,200 BTC (~$320M) from Bitcoin's Liquid Network federation wallet on September 6 by exploiting a bug in Elements, the open-source code powering the sidechain, which allowed unbacked L-BTC tokens that were redeemed for real Bitcoin through SideSwap's authorized peg-out mechanism. The self-described white-hat attackers negotiated publicly via OP_RETURN on-chain messages, demanding the bridge nodes be patched before returning 3,400 BTC (~$262.6M) and keeping about 598 BTC (~$47M). Blockstream confirmed the affected bridge nodes were patched; the network remains paused while federation members complete security work, and experts debate whether the act legally constitutes extortion.

Magento StyleSmuggler zero-day exploited to deploy Linux backdoor

StyleSmuggler zero-day in Magento and Adobe Commerce is actively exploited in the wild to deploy a Rust-based Linux backdoor; fix not yet released.

A zero-day dubbed StyleSmuggler affecting all versions of Magento and Adobe Commerce is being actively exploited, with the first observed incident on September 4 on a fully patched site. The exploit injects PHP code via Magento's template system through a fake 'failed-payment' email to achieve code execution, installing a Rust-based backdoor disguised as kworker/u:8:0 or fc-cache with a 30-minute cron job for persistence. The backdoor communicates via TLS/WebSockets or UDP port 123 masquerading as NTP traffic, checks TracerPid to detect tracing, and can receive remote commands. Adobe confirmed it is working on a fix with no timeline; Sansec recommends disabling GraphQL as mitigation and monitoring for suspicious cron entries and kworker or fc-cache processes. Magento is installed on more than 160,000 websites, including 14,000 of the top 1 million sites.

A Deep Dive Into Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2023

Mirai-like botnet scans exploit TP-Link EOL router flaw CVE-2023-33538 after CISA KEV addition, though observed exploit code is flawed.

Unit 42 observed large-scale automated scans attempting to exploit CVE-2023-33538 in end-of-life TP-Link TL-WR940N, TL-WR740N and TL-WR841N routers after CISA added the flaw to its KEV catalog in June 2025. HTTP GET requests inject commands via the ssid1 parameter at the /userRpm/WlanNetworkRpm endpoint to download and execute an arm7 ELF binary, a Mirai variant related to the Condi IoT botnet. Firmware emulation and reverse engineering showed the observed exploits are flawed and would fail, but the underlying vulnerability is real and successful exploitation requires authentication to the router's web interface. TP-Link confirmed the devices are end-of-life with no patches available and recommends replacing units and eliminating default credentials.

CISA Flags Actively Exploited Ray Flaw That Can Trigger Browser

CISA added actively exploited Ray flaw CVE-2025-62593 (CVSS 9.4) to its KEV catalog; the DNS rebinding RCE has powered crypto-mining and DDoS botnet campaigns.

CISA added CVE-2025-62593 (CVSS 9.4) to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, citing active exploitation of a DNS rebinding-driven RCE flaw in the Ray distributed computing framework, fixed in version 2.52.0. The flaw stems from missing authentication on critical Ray endpoints and an insufficient User-Agent header guard, exploitable against developers running Ray in Firefox or Safari via malicious websites or ads. RondoDox botnet operators incorporated the PoC exploit before the November 26, 2025 disclosure, and unpatched GPU-equipped clusters were hijacked into self-replicating crypto-mining botnets in the ShadowRay 2.0 campaign. FCEB agencies must apply fixes by August 20, 2026.

GeoServer Zero-Day Targeted in Active Exploitation Attempts, Can Lead to RCE

A CVSS 9.8 SQL injection zero-day in GeoServer's PostGIS datastore enables RCE and drew active exploitation; fixes shipped in versions 3.0.1, 2.28.5, 2.27.6.

A SQL injection flaw in GeoServer's jsonArrayContains function within the GeoTools PostGIS datastore (GHSA-mqjf-5f49-2fjh, CVSS 9.8) was disclosed August 12, 2026, and saw hundreds of exploitation attempts within hours per watchTowr. An attacker-controlled value is interpolated into a PostgreSQL jsonb_path_exists() expression without escaping; with superuser or pg_execute_server_program privileges it escalates to OS command execution via WFS 1.0. GeoServer released versions 3.0.1, 2.28.5, and 2.27.6, and the flaw is a regression of CVE-2023-25158. GeoServer has a history of mass exploitation, including CVE-2024-36401 used for botnets and proxies.
