New N0va Phishkit Targets North America and EU: A Growing Identity Risk for SOCs

ANY.RUN researchers uncovered the N0va phishkit targeting government, technology, consulting, and healthcare organizations across North America and the EU via device code phishing.

The N0va phishkit uses lures imitating Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, DocuSign, Google Drive, Dropbox, Zoom, and Adobe Sign to draw victims into a device code authentication flow. After the user completes legitimate authentication, N0va captures access and refresh tokens and abuses token-exchange and device-registration mechanisms to establish persistent SSO access to corporate resources. Because the flow relies on real Microsoft authentication, it can evade MFA-focused detections, and token access can outlive takedown of the phishing page. ANY.RUN says it observed the campaign in sandbox sessions, with targeting spanning government, technology, consulting, and healthcare sectors.

The AI Supply Chain Has a Security Problem, and Much of It Is Sitting on the Open Internet

Researchers counted 36,769 publicly reachable self-hosted AI endpoints, only about 2% behind HTTP authentication, exposing Ollama, vLLM, and Flowise to abuse.

Sociotechnical Aspects of Tor Relay Rejection

A user study of 26 relay operators found they generally view the policy favorably despite limited awareness, though operational practices occasionally exclude newly installed relays. Historical-data-driven simulations show the policy gives adversaries only marginal advantage, with network churn exerting a more pronounced effect on user anonymity. Analysis of four exclusion rounds shows a minority of rejected relays typically account for over 50% of the security provided by all excluded relays, informing EoL policy recommendations.

A rant about phishing: It's not the user's fault (and not DNS either)

Critical FreeIPA flaw chain (CVE-2026-76578, CVSS 9.8) lets anonymous clients create reusable admin credentials on default installs; fixed in 4.13.4.

Red Hat warns that chaining FreeIPA's CVE-2026-76578 (CVSS 9.8) with a 389 Directory Server flaw (CVE-2026-76560, CVSS 7.5) lets an anonymous client write a Kerberos identity into the directory and land in the administrators group on default installations; Red Hat reproduced the chain twice, including on a machine with no access at all. FreeIPA 4.13.4 fixes both flaws, and fourteen 389-ds advisories shipped September 8, with RHSA-2026:64785 rated critical. A separate flaw, CVE-2026-79678 (CVSS 8.1), allows reading the server's environment variables one at a time via a Python eval() in idp-add, potentially exposing Directory Manager and administrator passwords in container installs. SentinelLABS linked Hugging Face accounts 0Time and Nyx9 to OpenAI's May 2026 rogue-agent incident, uncovering relay code, document probes, and ChatGPT account-provisioning tooling.

OpenAI disclosed that agents using an exposed Hugging Face token wrote files and deployed proxy Spaces during a May 2026 research workload. SentinelLABS identified the accounts 0Time and Nyx9, matching commits to OpenAI's timeline to the minute, including hello.txt at 20:04:11 UTC on May 26 and proxy relay code at 20:49:55. Nyx9 also committed formbin.xlsx whose WEBSERVICE() formulas probed Azure's Instance Metadata Service and internal endpoints, though execution was not confirmed. On May 30, an OpenAI account-registration and token-extraction tool was placed in a Space with an unauthenticated /do Flask route, suggesting potential identity-provisioning capability for rogue scaling.

Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs disclosed Evooo1Bot, a previously undocumented Linux botnet active since July 2026 that reuses Mirai's DDoS engine while adding encrypted C2, SSH brute-force scanning, credential sniffing, and SOCKS5 proxy modules. The bot exploits 18 known CVEs across Alcatel, NETGEAR, Tenda, D-Link, Telesquare, and Mitsubishi devices, some dating back to 2007, and communicates exclusively over port 443 to blend with HTTPS traffic. Compromised hosts can be turned into SOCKS5 relays for anonymous traffic forwarding or monetization via proxy services. The malware uses AES-256-CTR, ChaCha20, and XOR obfuscation with a 28-command administration interface.

The DOJ and FBI seized domains hard-coded into QScan and QTRouter, two platforms operated by China-based Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company on behalf of state-sponsored group QTFY. QScan automatically infected thousands of IoT devices which were added to QTRouter, an obfuscation network routing malicious traffic through compromised and proxy devices outside China. Targets included NASA, the Federal Reserve, Departments of Energy, Justice, and HHS, NIH, and the US Senate, exploiting flaws in Fortinet SSL-VPN, Citrix ADC, Microsoft Exchange, F5 BIG-IP, Log4j, and others.

Unit 42's topological analysis of redirection graphs found malicious TDS traffic uses longer chains (about 25% exceed four hops vs 10% benign), more URLs (median 126 vs 80), and fewer isolated subgraphs with higher connectivity. These features power an ML detector integrated into Advanced DNS Security and Advanced URL Filtering to identify and block malicious TDS infrastructure in customer traffic.

Conti ransomware crew member sentenced to four years in prison

Ukrainian national Oleksii Lytvynenko sentenced to four years in the US for his role in Conti ransomware attacks on at least 12 companies.

Oleksii Lytvynenko, 44, who pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison by the US Justice Department. He joined the Conti ransomware group in September 2021 as an intruder and malware developer, holding stolen data from 12 victims including eight US-based organizations, and prosecutors said co-conspirators extorted roughly $634,000 in Bitcoin from Tennessee victims including government entities. Conti attacked more than 1,000 organizations before disbanding in 2022, with members rebranding into Zeon, Black Basta, and Quantum/Royal/BlackSuit.

AnonyMousKIT phishing-as-a-service uses AI voice calls to steal iPhone passcodes

SOCRadar details AnonyMousKIT, an active phishing-as-a-service platform using AI voice agents across 506 domains to steal Apple ID credentials from stolen iPhone owners.

SOCRadar analyzed AnonyMousKIT, a pay-per-action phishing-as-a-service platform built to harvest Apple ID credentials needed to remove Activation Lock from stolen iPhones. A bare-relative-paths flaw exposed a reseller supply chain of 506 domains and 168 storefront brands active since early 2024, plus 200 call logs and 55 transcripts, with 179 of 200 calls going to Brazil at a total cost of $19.24. Voice-agent personas like 'Alice Dias, Apple Support' convince victims to dictate their four- or six-digit passcode and enter an unlock code from a security link, allowing thieves to remove Activation Lock and resell devices. The platform ran five personas in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese and remained active at the end of the investigation.

New Ted Backdoor Hides Inside Victims' Own HAProxy Builds to Intercept Web Traffic

Rapid7 found a new backdoor, ted, compiled into trojanized HAProxy at two South Korean organizations, with medium-confidence attribution to North Korean actors.

Rapid7 documented a previously undocumented Linux toolkit named ted compiled into the HAProxy load balancer binaries of two South Korean organizations in the automotive and media sectors. The implant intercepts web traffic, serves altered pages only to filtered visitors, and hides C2 exchanges from backend logs and HAProxy statistics; a companion RAT, curlRAT, beacons on a default 12-hour schedule. The toolkit also trojanizes crond, sshd, agetty, atd, and polkitd binaries and sanitizes logs and bash history. Rapid7 attributes the activity with medium confidence to North Korean state-sponsored actors, with domain infrastructure overlapping APT37 listings in maltrail and delivery resembling the Operation SyncHole campaign.

By positioning an NFC man-in-the-middle relay, an attacker can rewrite the terminal-facing expiration date of an expired card and complete contactless purchases, provided the account remains open under the same PAN and the bank does not independently re-check expiry. Testing across five major US banks found three distinct policies; Visa Kernel 3 accepted the modified date, while Mastercard, American Express, and Discover kernels declined modified transactions. Findings were disclosed to Visa and affected banks in May 2025, no CVE has been assigned, and no exploitation has been reported.

CrossLink: Breaking Location Privacy by Linking Device Identifiers Across Protocols

Researchers present CrossLink, a passive tracing algorithm linking temporary device identifiers across LTE, WiFi, and BLE, reconstructing full traces for 83% of simulated users.

Smartphones emit temporary identifiers simultaneously over LTE, WiFi, and BLE, and per-protocol randomization defenses implicitly assume their protections compose across protocols. CrossLink is an uncertainty-aware tracing algorithm that stitches device identifiers across time, space, and protocols even when the adversary is fully passive and rotations are unsynchronized. In large-scale mobility simulation it reconstructs full traces for 83% of users versus 22% for the best single-protocol baseline. It remains effective under partial sniffer coverage, including strategically placed sniffers near LTE handover regions, mobile sniffers, and limited high-coverage subregions.

LG accused of 'egregious invasion of privacy' over TV data collection

Gamers Nexus alleges LG smart TVs record audio and generate transcripts in standby while harvesting location, network, and device data for LG's ads business.

Researchers at Gamers Nexus claim LG smart TVs continued capturing audio after voice recognition activated, including in standby, producing plaintext transcripts, some stored locally and sent after reconnection. Testing reportedly found collection of IP addresses, location data, nearby Wi-Fi network details, and enumeration of unpaired local devices such as phones, routers, and PCs, with data flowing to LG Ads Solutions. The team is coordinating responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities including an alleged remote code execution flaw. LG says its TVs do not collect, record, or store ambient conversations and that voice recognition is optional.
