Dutch NCSC: Critical Check Point VPN flaws exploitation is imminent

Dutch NCSC warns exploitation is imminent for critical Check Point VPN RCE flaws CVE-2026-85102 and CVE-2026-85103, urging immediate patching of Security Gateways.

The Dutch NCSC assesses the likelihood and impact of exploitation as high for two critical Check Point VPN flaws, though no public PoC exploit has been reported. CVE-2026-85102 is improper validation of certificate data during VPN negotiation, and CVE-2026-85103 is a heap overflow in the VPN certificate ASN.1 decoder; both enable remote code execution on Security Gateways, the latter also on Security Management Servers. Affected releases span R81.20, R82, R82.10, R81.10.x, R82.00.x and EoS versions R80 through R81.10, while R82.20 is unaffected. Check Point shipped fixes on September 9 via LivePatch Take 24 and Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator takes, and NCSC advises restricting Site-to-Site VPN rules to trusted IPs.

New IoT Malware Uses Public Linux Exploits to Gain Root and Launch DDoS Attacks

Nozomi details KATARU, an IoT botnet that brute-forces Telnet, exploits public Linux kernel flaws for root access, and launches multi-protocol DDoS attacks.

KATARU, discovered after honeypot Telnet brute-force activity from a Vietnamese IP, downloads an ARM payload (vlxx.arm) and attempts privilege escalation by editing /etc/passwd or exploiting CVE-2026-46300 (Fragnesia), CVE-2026-43284 (Dirty Frag), and CVE-2026-31431 (Copy Fail). It combines Mirai-style TCP, UDP, ICMP, HTTP, QUIC and DNS floods with application attacks against Minecraft, FiveM, OpenVPN and WireGuard. The malware uses X25519 and ChaCha20-Poly1305 encrypted C2, unusually broad persistence across systemd, cron, init frameworks, and Android hooks, plus anti-debugging and decoy traffic to hinder analysis. Implementers copied x86 shellcode into the ARM binary and reused an RFC 7748 test-vector key, indicating low-quality but rapidly evolving commodity development.

Hackers Exploit FortiGate SSL-VPN Vulnerability to Attack Broadband Provider

Exposed attacker staging server reveals intrusion of Thai broadband provider 3BB via actively exploited FortiGate SSL-VPN flaw CVE-2024-21762.

Hunt.io found an open directory on server 92.63.180[.]133 holding 298 files detailing an intrusion into Triple T Broadband's 3BB brand, starting from a FortiGate 60F SSL-VPN at mail.3bb.co[.]th:10443. The actor weaponized CVE-2024-21762 (CVSS 9.8, KEV-listed since February 2024) using heap spraying and a ROP chain to gain a reverse shell. Post-exploitation included MeshCentral root-level persistence via www.ayuthayatech[.]com, Dirty COW/PwnKit privilege escalation, credential harvesting, SSH spraying against 55+ internal addresses, and log-deleting cleanup scripts; a stolen OpenVPN certificate and key from Triple T's PKI may still be valid.

CVE-2026-89775: Guest-to-Host Escape in KVM/arm64

Disclosed CVE-2026-89775 lets a guest VM escape to the host on KVM/arm64 systems with nested virtualization enabled.

Researcher Hyunwoo Kim disclosed CVE-2026-89775, a guest-to-host escape in KVM/arm64, after the embargo agreed with linux-distros maintainers expired. The root cause is a type truncation of the stage-1 walk level that makes a size computation return 0, the value meaning 'size unknown'. The VNCR pseudo-TLB invalidation path then interprets that 0 as a valid value on ARM64 hosts where nested virtualization is enabled.
