Massive Redis Cryptojacking Campaign Hijacks Thousands of Linux Servers

RedisRaider cryptojacking campaign compromises thousands of exposed, unauthenticated Linux Redis servers using cron persistence to deploy XMRig Monero miners.

Hunt.io researchers track a large-scale cryptojacking operation named RedisRaider that scans IPv4 ranges for Redis services exposed on TCP port 6379 and targets instances accepting unauthenticated connections. From a master list of 12,966 candidate hosts, 2,342 were confirmed to accept commands without authentication. Attackers abuse Redis commands (CONFIG SET dir/dbfilename, SET, BGSAVE) to write malicious cron entries into /etc/cron.d or /var/spool/cron, launching XMRig-based Monero miners, with branches including SSH authorized-key injection, Lua probing, and WordPress spraying. The article also references CVE-2026-81934, a Redis TLS use-after-free allowing unauthenticated command execution, fixed in releases including 8.2.9, 8.4.6, 8.6.6, 8.8.2, and 8.10.1.

Critical N-able N-central Vulnerability and Active Exploitation

N-able N-central pre-auth RCE zero-day CVE-2026-86218 (CVSS 10.0) is exploited in the wild; on-prem admins must upgrade to 2026.3 HF4.

N-able disclosed a third N-central vulnerability, CVE-2026-86218, a pre-authentication RCE rated CVSS 10.0, and released hotfix 2026.3 HF4 superseding build 2026.3.1.13. Huntress reproduced an exploit chain involving an authentication bypass (CVE-2026-86206/CVE-2026-86207) after a fully patched customer's N-central production server was compromised on September 4. Attackers appended strings like .invalid to account names and probed the /remoteControlAction.do?method=getPierDetails endpoint; Huntress worked with Cloudflare to disable adversary tunnel infrastructure. Hosted N-central instances are already patched; on-prem administrators must upgrade immediately.

Acronis backup plugin flaw exploited in targeted attacks (CVE-2026-87886)

Acronis warns CVE-2026-87886, an authenticated Linux privilege escalation flaw in its cPanel, WHM, and Plesk backup plugins, is under limited targeted exploitation; patches released.

Acronis disclosed CVE-2026-87886, a privilege escalation vulnerability caused by insecure file permissions in its backup plugins for cPanel, WHM, and Plesk, platforms popular among hosting providers and MSPs. Exploitation has been detected in the wild in limited, targeted attacks against cPanel & WHM deployments, with no exploitation observed on Plesk so far, and the low-complexity attack requires no user interaction. Fixes shipped last week: backup plugin version 1.9.3 HF3 for cPanel & WHM and extension version 1.8.11 for Plesk.
