CVE-2026-82429: Apache Storm Worker Launcher: Local Privilege Escalation to Root via a Time-of-Check Race in the Worker Launcher

Apache Storm's setuid-root worker-launcher re-resolves paths during recursive chown/chmod, letting local users win a race to escalate to root.

CVE-2026-82429 affects Apache Storm Worker Launcher (org.apache.storm:storm-core) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0, rated important. The setuid-root worker-launcher walks worker directories with FTS calling lchown and chmod on full pathnames while running with effective uid 0, and both syscalls re-resolve the path at call time. A local attacker can exploit this time-of-check race by swapping path components to gain root privileges. Fixed in version 3.1.0.

Flock cameras are riddled with security vulnerabilities and hardcoded creds

Leaked Flock ALPR camera firmware reveals EOL Android 8.1, a 2017 Linux kernel, and hardcoded API keys granting access to production credentials.

DDoSecrets published filesystem images from an in-use Flock ALPR camera, obtained by the hacker collective stegan0gram and investigated by 404 Media and Wired. Micah Lee's analysis shows the camera runs Android 8.1 with a security patch level of 2018-06-05 and Linux kernel 3.18.71, missing roughly eight years of Android fixes. The firmware exposes a hardcoded API key for Flock's hpnotiq backend that can retrieve Auth0 client credentials for any camera by MAC address, with credentials stored in plaintext. Likely unpatched flaws include CVE-2021-1905 (Qualcomm Adreno use-after-free) and CVE-2018-9568 (WrongZone kernel socket type confusion); Flock says it received no reports via its disclosure policy.

The skb that wasn't freed - the Fragnesia primitive via Open vSwitch

Doyensec details CVE-2026-90049 in Open vSwitch, enabling deterministic Linux kernel local privilege escalation on default major distribution installs.

Doyensec reports that the Open vSwitch datapath strips the SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG flag from packets it is still forwarding, allowing an in-place decrypt to write attacker-chosen bytes into root-owned page cache — a Dirty COW-class primitive that re-opens the Fragnesia bug family. The issues are tracked as CVE-2026-90049, CVE-2026-89487, and CVE-2026-80977, and were reported to the kernel security team with fixes coordinated alongside OVS maintainers. A deterministic local privilege escalation works on default installs of Arch, Fedora, Debian, Amazon Linux, and RHEL where unprivileged user namespaces and openvswitch auto-loading are enabled; the fix landed in mainline and shipped in stable on 09/04/2026. The write technique builds on the earlier Fragnesia and Dirty Frag bugs, including CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500.

Skullcandy Dime 3 Bluetooth Flaw Lets Nearby Attackers Hijack Audio and Spy Through Microphone

Skullcandy Dime 3 earbuds on firmware 1.0.0.28 accept unauthenticated Bluetooth pairing via Airoha SDK flaw CVE-2025-20701, enabling audio hijack and microphone capture.

CERT/CC vulnerability note VU#859658 describes insecure Bluetooth Classic (BR/EDR) pairing on Skullcandy Dime 3 (model S2DCW) firmware 1.0.0.28, linked to CVE-2025-20701 in the Airoha Bluetooth audio SDK. The NoInputNoOutput I/O capability lets unknown nearby devices pair without pairing mode, PIN, passkey or user interaction, then bond and automatically reconnect. An attacker can hijack the A2DP audio session and access Hands-Free or Headset profiles to capture live microphone audio. Firmware 1.0.0.30 reportedly fixes the flaw, but the earbuds cannot be updated through the Skullcandy app, leaving current users without a consumer-accessible patch path.

Docker Sandboxes Vulnerabilities Let Malicious Guests Escape Workspace and Access Host Files

Docker fixed two symlink-race flaws in Docker Sandboxes, CVE-2026-77179 and CVE-2026-79994, letting malicious guests escape the workspace and read host files; fixed in 0.42.0.

Docker patched CVE-2026-77179 (Critical) and CVE-2026-79994 (High) in Docker Sandboxes 0.42.0, released September 7. Both are time-of-check-to-time-of-use symlink races: CVE-2026-77179 in the macOS virtio-fs host server (versions 0.28.0 to before 0.42.0) can allow a malicious guest to read or modify arbitrary host files and potentially achieve code execution, while CVE-2026-79994 in the guest-to-host Unix socket relay (0.37.0 to before 0.42.0) can redirect host connections to arbitrary AF_UNIX sockets. Docker recommends upgrading and, as interim mitigation, using clone mode and avoiding read-write host mounts.

Windows 11 KB5124008 Update Breaks Active Directory Domain Trust and Blocks User Logins

Microsoft's September Windows 11 cumulative update KB5124008 breaks Active Directory domain trust on domain-joined machines, blocking logins despite valid credentials.

Microsoft is investigating community reports that KB5124008, the September 8, 2026 cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2/25H2 (builds 26100.9445/26200.9445), breaks the AD secure channel, causing 'The user name or password is incorrect' errors on interactive logon. Admins reproduced the failure consistently and observed nltest error 1786 (ERROR_NO_TRUST_LSA_SECRET) plus domain controller Event 4625 with status 0xC000006D over NTLM. The problem is suspected in Machine Identity Isolation, a Credential Guard capability that moves machine-account secrets into virtualization-based security, and disabling it via registry value, Group Policy, or Intune baseline restored trust. The September 14 out-of-band update KB5129195 does not address the domain trust issue, and Microsoft's release notes do not list it as a known problem.

VU#212479: Sentry Seer vulnerability allows attacker-controlled input to be executed in a privileged environment

CERT/CC details CVE-2026-90999: attacker-controlled Sentry telemetry can steer the Seer coding agent into executing attacker code with repository access.

CERT/CC published VU#212479 for CVE-2026-90999 in Sentry Seer: attacker-submitted events through public DSN endpoints flow into Seer's root-cause analysis, which is embedded directly into the coding agent's initial prompt. In the documented chain, the privileged coding agent downloads and executes an attacker-controlled package before any human review, yielding arbitrary code execution with access to connected source repositories. No vendor patch is available yet; mitigations include disabling automated remediation, restricting coding-agent package installation, and filtering telemetry before Seer analysis.

CVE-2026-82439: Apache Storm DRPC: Unauthenticated Unbounded Memory Growth in DRPC

Unauthenticated DRPC requests to Apache Storm 3.0.0 cause unbounded memory growth in the function-name queue map, enabling DoS.

CVE-2026-82439 (severity: important) affects Apache Storm DRPC (storm-server) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0. The DRPC server maintained a map from function name to request queue, creating an entry on first sight of a name, but no code path ever removed entries: request cleanup removed requests from queues but the queue objects and map entries persisted. An unauthenticated attacker could send requests for arbitrary function names to drive unbounded memory growth and crash the server.

CVE-2026-82432: Apache Storm Nimbus: Blobstore Authorization Bypass via Rebalance Configuration Overrides

Apache Storm Nimbus blobstore authorization bypass via rebalance configuration overrides, fixed in 3.1.0.

CVE-2026-82432 (rated moderate) affects Apache Storm Nimbus (storm-server) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0. Nimbus validates topology.blobstore.map against the calling subject only at topology submission time. The rebalance operation accepts configuration overrides and strips a small set of keys but never re-runs that validation, so a caller authorized only to rebalance a topology can introduce an unauthorized blobstore map.

Remote Desktop Services Failures on Windows Servers Following September Update

September 2026 Patch Tuesday updates cause Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 RDS sessions to freeze, forcing administrators to roll back.

Cumulative updates KB5122876 (Windows Server 2019), KB5122882 (2022), and KB5122871 (2025) trigger Remote Desktop Services freezes hours after boot, with RDP connections hanging at 'Connecting…' and Event ID 20498 logged. Administrators trace the fault to an apparent deadlock in RDPSERVERBASE!WDLIB_Close during session teardown; only hard resets restore service and the issue recurs. The same September release patched roughly 973 vulnerabilities, including two actively exploited zero-days (CVE-2026-81963, CVE-2026-85880, both in CISA's KEV) and a critical RDS RCE, CVE-2026-69525 (CVSS 9.8). Workarounds include DISM-based removal of the update or an unofficial FeatureManagement registry key disabling the suspected audio-redirection code path; Microsoft has not yet confirmed the bug.
