New AI Attack Hides Malicious Instructions in Normal-Looking Text to Evade Safety Filters

Check Point researchers show crafted prose hides policy-violating instructions that bypass all tested LLM gatekeepers, including GPT-4o mini and Llama Guard 3.

A new prompt-crafting technique embeds malicious payloads inside grammatical, natural-looking text without Base64, invisible Unicode, or obvious encodings, defeating lightweight pre-screening gatekeepers. In testing, all four evaluated gatekeeper models—gpt-4o-mini-2024-07-18, gpt-oss-safeguard:20b, claude-3-haiku-20240307, and llama-guard3:8b—classified the crafted wrappers as safe at a 100% bypass rate across 23 obfuscated prompts. GPT-5 Thinking in high-reasoning mode recovered and acted on the hidden instruction in 17 of 18 tests (~94.4%), often spending over a minute and multiple Python executions. Researchers recommend paraphrasing untrusted input, hardening gatekeeper policies, and applying defense-in-depth controls for agentic deployments.

27.5KB language-agnostic WebGPU syntax highlighter

A developer released gpu-lexer, a 27.5KB language-agnostic syntax highlighter that uses a tiny WebGPU model to label code tokens in the browser.

gpu-lexer splits source into words, whitespace, and symbols, then a small WebGPU model uses local and whole-file context to assign nine token classes, working on languages never seen in training. On held-out files, 12.57% of token labels differ from Shiki, though this measures agreement with Shiki rather than objective correctness. In benchmarks against Shiki 4.4.3, Prism.js, Highlight.js, Sugar High, and Starry Night, it highlighted 10 concatenated copies of three.min.js (5.56M characters) about 10x faster on an Apple M4 Pro in Chrome 152. The author frames it as an experiment, not a grammar-equivalent highlighter.

ukisai/Swift-Qwen3.8-27b — new model trending #30 on Hugging Face

UkisAI releases Swift-Qwen3.8-27B, a Qwen3.8-27B derivative using 58.3% fewer thinking tokens with <1% performance loss and ~1.95x speed-up.

UkisAI released Swift-Qwen3.8-27B, a reasoning-efficient derivative of Qwen3.8-27B that cuts thinking-token usage by 58.3% while staying within 1% of base performance, yielding a 1.95x speed-up on several tasks. The model was fine-tuned by penalizing reasoning-marker tokens that trigger overthinking, plus a transfer component from BottleCap AI's ThinkingCap-Qwen3.6-27B. Benchmarks include GPQA-Diamond 88.28% (base 88.38%), MMLU-Pro 84.95% (base 85.47%), and AIME 2026 94.00% (base 98.67%), with mean-token reductions of roughly 27-46% across tests. ASCII smuggling isn't just an AI security risk

Microsoft tracked a phishing campaign peaking at 2.37 million daily messages that hid financial-lure keywords with invisible Unicode tag characters to evade filters.

Microsoft researchers uncovered a large phishing campaign that inserted invisible Unicode tag characters (e.g., U+E0020) inside common financial keywords like 'funding', splitting words so keyword, signature, and regex matches fail. The campaign peaked at more than 2.37 million messages in late February 2026, ran from about 150 finance-themed sender domains on a strict weekday-only schedule, and gradually declined to under 20% of peak weekday volume by late March, with residual spikes through mid-June. The technique repurposes ASCII smuggling, normally used for indirect prompt injection against AI assistants, for traditional email phishing evasion. Microsoft advises defenders to strip or fold invisible Unicode code points before content matching and to watch for bulk weekday spikes from churning finance-themed domains.

Simon Willison used ChatGPT Work with GPT-6 Astra to generate 5K/10K running loops from OpenStreetMap data, noting the agent's executed code was not visible.

Simon Willison prompted ChatGPT Work running GPT-6 Astra (Max) to design looping 5K and 10K running routes from his address using OpenStreetMap data. The agent ran for 27 minutes and delivered an embedded visualization plus downloadable GPX and GeoJSON files, stating it used Nominatim for geocoding and Overpass to fetch local OSM roads and trails. He notes frustration that the actual executed code and exact actions were not visible in the ChatGPT UI, highlighting a transparency gap in agentic AI products.

Towards Standardized Evaluation of GPU Memory Safety with GMSBench

GMSBench provides 149 CUDA tests covering spatial, temporal, and concurrency GPU memory errors, exposing detection gaps in Compute Sanitizer.

GMSBench is a GPU memory safety benchmark comprising 149 self-contained CUDA tests spanning spatial, temporal, and concurrency errors across different GPU memory spaces and execution scenarios. The authors evaluate NVIDIA's Compute Sanitizer across multiple GPU architectures using the suite, exposing gaps in its detection coverage. The benchmark offers a standardized foundation for comparative evaluation of GPU memory safety mechanisms.

Structural Jailbreaks Generalize but Do Not Compound: A cross-provider and multilingual study of Involuntary In-Context Learning

Researchers show IICL structural jailbreaks generalize to Google Gemini, lifting attack success to 80-100% on harm and financial benchmarks; non-English prompts attenuate it.

The study red-teams two Google Gemini models with Involuntary In-Context Learning (IICL), a structural jailbreak reframing harmful requests as the final cell of a data-labeling task. IICL lifts attack success from at most 6.7% to 80-90% on HarmBench and 97-100% on financial abuse (FinProof), an order of magnitude above prior results on OpenAI's GPT-5.4. Against a compounding hypothesis, forcing IICL output into Spanish, Hindi, or Arabic attenuates the attack in 11 of 12 conditions, attributed to a 'relevance curse' producing lower-quality harmful content in lower-resource languages. Findings replicate under an independent non-Google judge (Cohen's kappa 0.86 over 377 paired verdicts).
