2026-012: Critical Vulnerabilities in Check Point Products

Check Point issued emergency hotfixes for two CVSS 9.8 flaws (CVE-2026-85102, CVE-2026-85103) enabling unauthenticated RCE on VPN-enabled gateways.

On 9 September 2026, Check Point released emergency security updates for CVE-2026-85102 (improper certificate-data validation in VPN negotiation) and CVE-2026-85103 (heap overflow in VPN certificate ASN.1 decoding), both CVSS 9.8, allowing unauthenticated remote code execution. The flaws affect Security Gateway, Security Management Server, and Spark Firewall deployments configured with Remote Access or Site-to-Site VPN, spanning versions R80 through R82.10. CERT-EU advisory 2026-012 urges immediate hotfix application, prioritizing internet-facing and perimeter appliances.

3BB Attacker Used MeshCentral Backdoor for Root Access, Targeted Subscriber Credentials

Hunt.io found an attacker holding root access inside Thai ISP 3BB via a MeshCentral backdoor, targeting subscriber RADIUS credential databases.

Hunt.io discovered an exposed attacker server on June 3, 2026 revealing an ongoing intrusion at 3BB, one of Thailand's largest broadband providers. The attacker maintained hidden MeshCentral agents reporting to www.ayuthayatech[.]com (device group TH-3BB) and held root on internal servers. Recovered scripts sprayed passwords over SSH against more than 55 internal machines, planted web shells, added SSH keys, searched for stored credentials, and targeted RADIUS subscriber credential databases, though exfiltration was not confirmed. The toolkit included a full exploit for FortiGate SSL-VPN flaw CVE-2024-21762 against mail.3bb.co[.]th, but the initial access vector is unestablished, and a cleanup script erased logs while preserving the backdoor.

Sandworm-Linked Cyclops Blink Returns With Network Scanning and Packet-Sniffing Capabilities

Sophos uncovers a 64-bit Cyclops Blink variant on hacked Cisco FMC appliances, adding internal network scanning and selective packet capture; linked to Sandworm.

Sophos CTU analyzed a new 64-bit x86-64 Cyclops Blink implant (timezone_check) deployed on Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center appliances compromised via CVE-2026-20079 authentication bypass and CVE-2026-20316 low-privileged login. The activity is assessed with high confidence as Russian-nexus, with a moderate-confidence link to Sandworm (IRON VIKING, also tracked as Seashell Blizzard). The implant runs a parent controller plus five worker modules, masquerades as [kworker/0:1], persists via SysV init scripts at /lib/tz/timezone_check, and beacons to hard-coded C2 89.34.96.56 over a custom TLS protocol on ports 43856 and 49172. New module 0x11 scans internal IPv4 networks for SSH, SMB, LDAP, VMware, HTTP/HTTPS and VPN services, while module 0x12 performs filtered packet capture that can expose cleartext credentials, cookies and tokens.

Digital Watchdog VMAX DVR and NVR Product Lineups

CISA advisory details six flaws, aggregate CVSS 9.6, giving attackers full control of Digital Watchdog VMAX DVR/NVR surveillance devices.

CISA advisory ICSA-26-258-01 discloses six vulnerabilities affecting all versions of Digital Watchdog VMAX A1 G4 DVRs, VMAX IP G4 NVRs, VMAX A1 PLUS, VA1G4, and VG4 recorders, with aggregate CVSS v3 of 9.6. Flaws include an authentication bypass leaking plaintext admin credentials (CVE-2026-68953), hard-coded credentials enabling root FTP access (CVE-2026-66890, CVE-2026-68950), root command execution (CVE-2026-68070), missing authorization on state-changing CGIs (CVE-2026-66887), and predictable session tokens (CVE-2026-66372). Successful exploitation grants full administrative control, live and recorded surveillance access, and a network pivot point. Products are deployed worldwide across commercial facilities, government, healthcare, and transportation sectors.
