The Self-Expanding Stolen Inference Supply Chain: An AI Agent Harvesting and Re-Serving LLM Access, (Fri, Sep 11th)

An autonomous coding agent harvested LLM API access from poorly secured gateways and aggregated stolen inference capacity behind a self-hosted gateway

A SANS researcher observed a semi-autonomous coding agent finding weakly secured LLM resale gateways via FOFA queries, creating trial accounts with temporary emails and CAPTCHA solving, and exploiting weak authorization such as client-supplied group_id fields. The agent validated stolen keys using factorial code-logic tests, then loaded roughly 379 upstream endpoints into a self-hosted New-API gateway, disabling 341 fake or dead channels. Five model names including claude-opus-5 and gpt-5.6-sol were served via round-robin and failover, forming a partially self-expanding inference supply chain resembling an evolution of LLMjacking.

Hackers Favor US Eastern Business Hours in M365 Phishing Campaign

KnowBe4 tracked 29,785 phishing emails abusing Microsoft 365 Direct Send to spoof internal senders while timing sends to US Eastern business hours.

KnowBe4 Threat Lab observed 29,785 confirmed phishing emails between July and August 2026 abusing Microsoft 365's Direct Send feature, which lets devices and legacy apps send mail without a dedicated account. The emails appeared to come from trusted internal addresses such as HR or accounting, bypassing email gateways by connecting directly to Exchange Online MX endpoints, with activity peaking on Monday-Tuesday during US Eastern business hours and near-zero weekend volume. About 35% of the messages carried malicious attachments like fake invoices, voicemail alerts, and OneDrive shares, and 4,023 used reply-to addresses on different domains to capture employee responses. Researchers recommended strict DMARC enforcement, connector restrictions, DKIM signing, and checking for the 'X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthAs: Anonymous' Exchange header.

Getting a stranger’s phone kicked off the cellular network costs a few dollars

Researchers show attackers can remotely block strangers' phones and alarm gateways on US cellular networks by abusing lost/stolen IMEI reporting for $2.50-$4 per device.

Researchers from Michigan State University and three partner schools found six weaknesses in the lost/stolen device reporting ecosystem spanning devices, carrier systems, and cross-carrier block-list sharing. They demonstrated blocking unopened Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 phones and home alarm gateways on three major US carriers, with each block costing $2.50-$4 and taking roughly 20-80 seconds. The attacks exploit thin identity and ownership checks in prepaid accounts, IMEI leakage from vulnerable cellular chipsets used by two vendors with over 40% global market share, and pre-release IMEI databases purchasable for $600. Victims receive no notification, and restoring service requires proving device ownership to the carrier.

Access Control as Verified Parse Constraints

Researchers verify a class of EverParse validators that correctly enforce access-control policies, deploying a machine-checked enforcement gate on seL4.

The paper targets enforcement-code bugs in commercial security gateways by proving that forward-only, backtrack-free EverParse validators are verified recognizers for a bounded finite-state class that includes access-control decision functions with fixed-offset fields and bounded disjunction. Encoding a bounded policy language into a fixed-size byte buffer allows an SMT solver to verify the enforcement code once, covering all byte values, policies, requests, and sessions. Editing rule content over a fixed endpoint set requires no new proof, while adding endpoints reruns the toolchain. A deployment on the seL4 microkernel ensures every request passes through the gate and unverified components cannot corrupt the enforcement chain.

The framework rejects inconsistent resource use, post-configuration attribution changes, wrong-domain callbacks, and calls to unregistered Secure services. A door-lock case study on an STM32U5 Nucleo board produced images of 232.7 KiB and 228.4 KiB of flash with roughly 220 KiB of SRAM per domain.

Characterizing Network Centralization and Observability in the Remote MCP Ecosystem

A measurement study of 179 remote MCP servers finds heavy infrastructure concentration (HHI 0.736) and a security-observability tradeoff in platform OAuth.

The paper introduces a three-tier observability framework (catalog metadata, passive compliance signals, live vulnerability analysis) applied to a stratified sample of 179 remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints from two public registries. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index over ASN distribution is 0.736, well above the 0.25 high-concentration threshold, and 95% of commercial PaaS-hosted servers enforce gateway-level OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Authentication correlates strongly with hosting platform choice rather than operator configuration, creating a security-observability tradeoff that constrains automated scanning for tool-poisoning vectors without prior credentials.
