Smishing Hackers Can Watch Every Keystroke as Victims Enter Card Details and OTPs

Group-IB details the JWR smishing kit, used by the Outsider cluster, that streams keystrokes and OTPs to fraudsters in real time via WebSocket.

Group-IB linked the JWR phishing kit to an operator cluster it tracks as Outsider within the broader Smishing Triad ecosystem. Fake toll, parcel, and delivery messages lead to live phishing pages that capture card numbers, passwords, and one-time passcodes before victims submit forms. The kit supports up to 32 guided pages, AES-256-CTR wrapped traffic with keys embedded per message, rotating short links and domains, and WordPress or Shopify integration markers, enabling account takeover and unauthorized payments.

Hackers target WordPress sites via third-party WooCommerce plugin

Attackers exploit unauthenticated file-upload flaw CVE-2026-27540 in WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture plugin to install PHP webshells; Wordfence blocked 100,000+ attacks.

CVE-2026-27540 is an unauthenticated arbitrary file-upload vulnerability in the WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture premium plugin (versions 2.0.3.1 and older), caused by the exposed wwlc_file_upload_handler AJAX action trusting a user-controlled file_settings allowlist. Discovered by researcher Teemu Saarentaus, it was fixed in version 2.0.3.2 released February 20. Defiant reports Wordfence blocked over 100,000 attacks, with exploitation spikes between June 4-17, July 1, and August 30, delivering shell.php webshells for reconnaissance and additional payload uploads.

Hackers target exposed Vite dev servers to steal AWS, Azure secrets

Mass scanning campaign exploits CVE-2026-39364 in exposed Vite dev servers to steal AWS, Azure, and Terraform credentials.

F5 honeypots detected over 800 attacks and roughly 32,000 events in a month against internet-exposed Vite development servers, abusing CVE-2026-39364 (file access control bypass in Vite 7.1.0-7.3.2 and 8.x before 8.0.5) via parameters like ?raw and ?import&raw. Attackers used extensive wordlists to harvest .env files, AWS/Azure credentials, Terraform state, and /proc/self/environ, with double-encoded traversal to bypass WAFs. The same IPs also leveraged older Vite flaws CVE-2025-30208, actively-exploited CVE-2025-31125, and CVE-2024-45811, primarily from US, Belgium, and Netherlands using Google Cloud ranges.

Hackers Deploy New SloppyRAT via ClickFix to Enable Ransomware Lateral Movement

Zscaler ThreatLabz reports SloppyRAT, a new Windows RAT delivered via ClickFix lures that supports reconnaissance, reverse SOCKS proxying, and lateral movement for ransomware affiliates.

Zscaler ThreatLabz first observed SloppyRAT in June 2026, delivered through multi-stage ClickFix chains that abuse finger.exe, a renamed curl.exe, and IronPython to load a reflective Python payload. The C++ implant implements 47 PowerShell-like commands via native APIs and direct syscalls, modifies Microsoft Defender settings, and establishes a reverse SOCKS proxy that lets operators pivot into internal networks. It is linked to CastleLoader and CastleRAT components and uses certificate-pinned HTTPS C2 with an EtherHiding fallback via Polygon JSON-RPC. Zscaler assesses it as an intrusion-enablement tool for ransomware operations, though flawed persistence logic suggests the family is still under development.
