Fluid Notarization: Verifiable Evolution of Concurrently Edited Structured Documents

Fluid Notarization anchors delta-CRDT change graphs on blockchain, providing verifiable provenance for concurrently edited documents, demonstrated on collaborative electronic health records.

The paper introduces Fluid Notarization, a paradigm that notarizes the evolution of collaboratively edited structured documents rather than isolated snapshots. It builds on Melda, a JSON-native delta-CRDT representing changes as compact content-addressed deltas linked by causal dependencies, with blockchain notarization reduced to recording identifiers of evolution artifacts while synchronization, reconstruction, and conflict resolution remain off-chain. The architecture combines deterministic CRDT convergence with independently auditable proof-of-existence, provenance, and publication evidence, validated through a prototype based on collaboratively edited electronic health records.

Rapidly scaling online storage to serve over 1 billion ChatGPT users

OpenAI's Habitat online storage platform now handles over 70 million requests per second and 500 PB of data for 1 billion users.

OpenAI details the evolution of Habitat, its online storage platform backing ChatGPT and other products, which began in mid-2024 as a Python client-side library over Azure Cosmos DB. Habitat now processes more than 70 million requests per second, serves over 500 petabytes of data across nearly 40 geographic regions, and supports over 1 billion users weekly. By mid-2025 the client library approach became brittle, so OpenAI moved Habitat into a standalone service to centralize deployments, observability, and multi-tenancy reliability. This is part one of a two-part series; a future post will cover read optimization and scaling the Azure Cosmos DB partnership.

The extension you never installed: KREMLIN forges Chrome's own integrity checks to steal banking sessions

Elastic details KREMLIN, a Brazilian banking malware whose malicious Chrome/Edge extension forges Chromium integrity checks to steal sessions.

Elastic Security Labs tracked operation REF9334 and its KREMLIN toolkit, a Brazilian banking malware campaign impersonating twelve banks across seven campaigns since May 2025. The infection chain uses multi-stage obfuscated JavaScript loaders with sandbox checks (file and process counting), scheduled-task persistence, and an Ethereum smart contract acting as a dead-drop resolver for C2 and payload URLs, abusing Archive.org for hosting. The malicious browser extension bypasses Chromium integrity mechanisms by manipulating Secure Preferences and regenerating required HMACs and App-Bound encrypted hashes. Threat Command disrupted over 1,500 infections by registering the kill-switch canary domain.

From Intent to Execution Grant: An Execution-Boundary Conformance Profile for High-Risk AI Actions

Researchers specify EBL-Core, an execution-boundary conformance profile binding AI agent intents, policies, and evidence into verifiable execution grants, validated with bounded tests.

The paper defines EBL-Core, a conformance profile deciding whether one fully materialized AI-generated candidate action may receive action-scoped execution authority. It binds a structured intent object, Root and Operational Policies, typed evidence, and a verifiable Decision Derivation through an Execution Release Contract, with lifecycle rules for Redemption and Revocation. Evaluation included 34 static vectors, 15 lifecycle checks, and 100 trials of 32 concurrent Redemption attempts yielding exactly one winner per trial. The authors state these bounded results demonstrate executability of the specified subset, not production readiness or complete mediation.

Powering AI is an architecture problem

Sponsored analysis argues AI data centers need medium-voltage, inline power architecture after Virginia grid faults knocked over 3GW of load offline.

A sponsored MIT Technology Review piece recounts a July 22, 2026 transmission fault in Ashburn, Virginia that shed more than 3 GW of data center load, and a 2024 incident where one failed surge arrester dropped about 60 facilities and 1,500 MW. It argues legacy UPS-based power stacks fail at AI scale because campuses can swing 70% of load in milliseconds and trip offline during grid disturbances. The proposed fix moves protection to medium voltage (13.8 kV and above) in inline enclosures near substations, improving density, permitting timelines, and backup power economics. A full-scale system tested at the DOE National Laboratory of the Rockies cleared ERCOT large-load ride-through requirements.
