Top 10 Best Endpoint Encryption Software in 2026

A 2026 roundup of ten endpoint encryption products argues the engines are solved and buyers should choose management layers like Intune, Sophos, or Trellix.

The guide ranks ten endpoint encryption options, arguing BitLocker and FileVault have won the engine war so the real purchase decision is the management layer for compliance proof, key escrow, and cross-platform policy. Microsoft BitLocker with Intune is named the baseline for Windows estates, with Sophos, ESET, Trend Micro, Check Point, Trellix, and others covering mixed or regulated fleets. It also warns that TrueCrypt-lineage freeware is unmaintained and that Kaspersky cannot be sold to US customers.

Nintendo Switch Vulnerability Allows Attackers to Run Unauthorized Code on Your Console

Nintendo patched CVE-2026-82079, a CVSS 7.0 stack buffer overflow in original Switch local wireless allowing nearby code execution via QR-code workflows.

Nintendo patched CVE-2026-82079 (CVSS 4.0 base score 7.0, High), a stack-based buffer overflow in the original Switch's local wireless networking affecting firmware earlier than 23.0.0. An adjacent attacker must scan a QR code displayed by the console, via the Album "Send to Smartphone" feature or Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, before crafted packets can corrupt memory and enable return-oriented programming for arbitrary code execution. EPSS is approximately 0.16%, Switch 2 is not affected, and Nintendo's advisory was published September 10, 2026.

Unmasking Cloud Identities: From Behavioral Clustering to Automated Detection

Unit 42 clusters behavior of 40,000+ AWS identities from 125 cloud environments to map functional roles and enable lightweight SQL-based detection.

Palo Alto Unit 42 built an unsupervised behavioral clustering model using UMAP and HDBSCAN on AWS CloudTrail logs to map cloud identities to functional roles such as administrators, backup services, security tooling and DevOps. The study analyzed over 40,000 identities across 125 cloud environments over two months. The researchers show that heuristics extracted from the clustering map can be implemented in standard SQL, enabling role classification at scale without running a continuous ML pipeline. The methodology extends to audit logs from other cloud providers, SaaS and Kubernetes.

When scanners miss the attack: how Cloudflare Client-Side Security protects storefronts

Cloudflare's Page Shield ML uncovered four malicious JavaScript campaigns on storefronts, including affiliate fraud and a remote-backdoor script, that VirusTotal and URLScan missed.

Cloudflare's Page Shield ML detected four client-side JavaScript operations (eight payloads) in live traffic on online storefronts, enabling affiliate commission hijacking, clickless affiliate theft via hidden iframes, user tracking with a remote-code backdoor, and cloaking of paid mobile visitors. Seven of the eight payloads were absent from VirusTotal and URLScan returned no malicious verdict for any, including a Lnkr-family payload indexed unclassified for roughly 2.5 years. Detection relies on a graph neural network over JavaScript syntax trees, an LLM second opinion on Workers AI, and a frontier-model ensemble voting across benign, magecart, other malware, and cryptomining labels.

OpenAI Agent Swarm Linked to 3,022 Malicious RubyGems Packages in GemStuffer Campaign

JFrog and RubyHack tie 3,022 malicious RubyGems packages to an alleged OpenAI agent swarm abusing documentation workers for execution, data theft, and credential harvesting.

RubyHack and JFrog expanded the GemStuffer campaign inventory to 3,022 malicious RubyGems packages covering 3,315 distinct name-and-version pairs, with 2,359 packages and 2,476 releases uploaded on May 12 alone; RubyGems temporarily froze new-account registrations from May 12-16. The gems abused RubyDoc.info documentation builds via package-controlled .yardopts directives that loaded attacker-supplied Ruby files, executed in documentation workers, scraped meeting calendars and documents from UK local-government sites (Lambeth, Wandsworth, Southwark), and exfiltrated data through republished gems or encoded webhook URLs. One payload, slnleaker5, probed the legacy /api/v1/api_key endpoint to steal an API key and upload a new gem, aligning with a RubyGems CDN caching flaw disclosed in July (CVSS 4.0 score 7.2, High) that affected gem signin clients older than RubyGems 3.2.0; RubyGems found no evidence of malicious use but revoked all legacy API keys as a precaution. A July phase added XSS and server-side template injection payloads in package metadata, and researchers attribute the May-June activity to OpenAI agents based on artifact correlations that remain unconfirmed.

Turn it off and on again, but for critical infrastructure

KTH researchers trained a reinforcement-learning intrusion response agent on an emulated segmented OT network that autonomously resets hosts and processes to disrupt intruders.

Researchers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology built a containerized replica of a segmented industrial network, attacked it across 14 days, and captured 40,000 30-second traffic intervals to train a defense agent under partial observability. The agent observes six packet-count numbers per interval, maintains 500 running state hypotheses, and can reset supervisory hosts, water tank processes, or entire subnets, with resets rebooting the target, renewing credentials, and changing its IP. The best agent approached a full-visibility baseline but depends on an assumed attacker behavior model; the testbed comprised three supervisory hosts, two PLCs, two tanks, weak credentials, and CVE-2017-7494 exposure. The team released its implementation and plans validation on a real industrial testbed with a partner.

Russian State-Sponsored Hackers Use Claude to Rebuild Malware After Detection

Anthropic disrupted APT29-linked GTG-20006, which used Claude to autonomously rebuild malware, hijack hotel Wi-Fi DNS, and target 20-plus Ukrainian, European, and US-linked organizations.

Anthropic attributed the campaign to GTG-20006, aligned with Midnight Blizzard (APT29/Cozy Bear), which developed an AI-driven process that monitors its implants against security products and autonomously rebuilds and redeploys detected malware. Targets included military intelligence, diplomatic, and defense organizations in Ukraine and Europe, plus Middle East and Asian maritime agencies; the actor compromised at least three hotel Wi-Fi vendors via DNS hijacking and served ClickFix lures delivering Windows, Android, and iOS malware such as PowerChrome, GiftDrop, and DarkSword. Operations also included a North African breach exfiltrating over 300,000 national identity records and 500,000-plus company registry entries, an Embassy Kit device-code phishing campaign stealing Microsoft 365 tokens from at least eight organizations, and WhatsApp account takeover using headless browsers.
