Telegram Desktop Flaw Could Turn Old Chat Exports Into Data Theft Traps

ExPatch disclosed stored XSS in Telegram Desktop HTML export letting bot messages steal chat data when exports open in browsers.

ExPatch researchers Denis and Aleksander Rostilov found a stored XSS flaw (CVSS 8.2) where bot inline keyboard button text was written unescaped into HTML chat exports, executing attacker JavaScript in browsers. The payload can persist in chat history for months, exfiltrate messages, metadata, and local file paths, and rewrite the page, spreading via forwarded messages without bot membership. Telegram fixed it by applying SerializeString(), first stable fixed release 7.0.1 shipped July 14, 2026, but HTML exports created with vulnerable versions remain dangerous.

Passkey-themed phishing attacks lead to Microsoft 365 data theft

Microsoft links ShinyHunters- and Helix-affiliated actors to passkey-themed vishing and device-code phishing that compromises Microsoft 365 accounts and steals cloud data.

Microsoft attributes passkey- and SSO-themed social engineering activity, observed since May 2026, to Storm-3121 (linked to ShinyHunters and Falcon) and Storm-3032 (tied to BlackFile members now operating as Helix). Attackers impersonate corporate IT help desks by phone or SMS, urging fake passkey, MFA, or SSO updates and directing victims to adversary-in-the-middle phishing pages or device-code authentication flows that yield credentials, session tokens, and OAuth tokens. Post-compromise behavior includes Microsoft Graph enumeration of users, SharePoint, and OAuth grants, plus persistence via attacker-controlled MFA methods. Google Threat Intelligence tracks related activity as UNC6671, linked to the BlackFile, Helix, Falcon, Pink, and Redact extortion gangs.

Hackers Deploy Casbaneiro Banking Trojan That Activates When Victims Open Bank Websites

Fortinet details Casbaneiro banking Trojan campaign hitting Latin American bank customers via invoice-themed PDF phishing, with AutoIt loading, RegSvcs.exe injection, and bank-site-triggered activation.

Fortinet identified an August 2026 Casbaneiro banking Trojan campaign targeting users in Argentina, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico through phishing PDFs styled as urgent invoices or legal notices. The staged chain uses IP-based geo-filtering, a Base64-encoded ZIP, an HTA file, and a legitimate AutoIt interpreter before injecting into RegSvcs.exe or mobsync.exe and persisting via a Startup shortcut. The Trojan exfiltrates address book and Outlook data unencrypted, stays dormant until victims visit targeted bank sites, then accepts commands for keyboard control, clipboard pasting, file execution, and command execution. It uses an expected HTTP 403 response from a second server and malformed HTTP requests to complicate network analysis.

The MacSync Stealer (formerly Mac.c, emerged April 2025, linked to developer 'Mentalpositive') is a 64-bit Mach-O stager with single-byte XOR string obfuscation that daemonizes, polls C2 with custom API-key headers, streams AppleScript payloads into osascript, and persists via fake LaunchAgents. It steals browser credentials, Keychain data, SSH keys, session tokens, and crypto wallets, exfiltrating archives in 10MB HTTP PUT chunks. Microsoft documented more than 30 related MacSync domains.

Credential Theft: How Attackers Steal & Use Stolen Credentials

Huntress explains how attackers steal credentials through phishing, AitM, infostealers, and dumping, then use them for lateral movement, BEC, and ransomware.

Huntress published an educational overview of credential theft, citing that roughly 70% of confirmed data breaches begin with stolen credentials. It details acquisition methods including phishing, adversary-in-the-middle attacks that capture MFA session tokens, infostealers (nearly a quarter of threats Huntress observed in 2025), Mimikatz-based credential dumping, credential stuffing, and password spraying. The piece then covers post-theft actions such as lateral movement, privilege escalation, account takeover, business email compromise, and ransomware, and closes with behavioral detection guidance and layered prevention strategies.

Revolut Data Breach Exposes Customers’ Passport Copies and Full Transaction Histories to Hackers

Revolut leaked KYC documents and full transaction histories after a fraudulent, domain-authenticated email request impersonating a government agency.

Revolut disclosed that an attacker using an unauthorized email account on a legitimate government domain, with valid domain-authentication credentials, tricked the fintech into releasing customer data. The exposed data includes passport and driver's license copies, identity-verification selfies, full names, dates of birth, addresses, IBANs, and complete transaction histories including Bitcoin activity. Revolut says core systems, accounts, and funds were not compromised, and it blocked the email source and notified authorities. On-chain investigator ZachXBT and others indicated the operation targeted high-net-worth users facing elevated phishing, SIM-swap, and extortion risk.
