TP-Link Cameras 0-Day Vulnerabilities Allow Attackers to Spy on Users

KTH researchers trained a reinforcement-learning intrusion response agent on an emulated segmented OT network that autonomously resets hosts and processes to disrupt intruders.

Researchers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology built a containerized replica of a segmented industrial network, attacked it across 14 days, and captured 40,000 30-second traffic intervals to train a defense agent under partial observability. The agent observes six packet-count numbers per interval, maintains 500 running state hypotheses, and can reset supervisory hosts, water tank processes, or entire subnets, with resets rebooting the target, renewing credentials, and changing its IP. The best agent approached a full-visibility baseline but depends on an assumed attacker behavior model; the testbed comprised three supervisory hosts, two PLCs, two tanks, weak credentials, and CVE-2017-7494 exposure. The team released its implementation and plans validation on a real industrial testbed with a partner.

New KATARU IoT Malware Packs Linux Privilege Escalation Exploits and Mirai-Style DDoS Attacks

Nozomi Networks identified KATARU, a new Mirai-style IoT botnet delivered via Telnet brute force that uses Linux privilege-escalation exploits and encrypted C2 for DDoS floods.

Nozomi Networks identified KATARU in August after a Telnet password-guessing attack against a honeypot retrieved an ARM payload. The malware attempts exploits for CVE-2026-46300 (Fragnesia), CVE-2026-43284 (DirtyFrag), and CVE-2026-31431 (Copy Fail), plus a cgroup v1 release_agent escape, and persists via systemd services, cron tasks, rc scripts, OpenWrt hooks, and Android boot locations. Its C2 uses X25519 key exchange with ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption and supports TCP, UDP, ICMP, HTTP, QUIC, and DNS floods, plus SSH brute forcing and command execution; embedded exploit shellcode in the ARM build targeted x86, suggesting untested copied code.

A DShield honeypot captured multi-architecture RedTail Linux executables (ARM, ARM64, i686, RISC-V, x86-64) deployed via shell scripts. Dynamic analysis of the UPX-packed, statically linked x86-64 sample (SHA-256 63be5f38...d35e) in an isolated Ubuntu 24.04 VM on Proxmox showed it renamed its process via prctl(PR_SET_NAME), killed a filesystem-monitoring process, and opened a TCP listening socket while surviving processes posed as php-fpm or PostgreSQL-like workers. Differential memory images pre- and post-execution were captured from the hypervisor for forensics.

Hackers Can Rent VectraRAT for $250 a Month to Take Control of Windows PCs

SOCRadar uncovered VectraRAT, a previously undocumented $250-per-month Windows RAT rental service delivered via Amadey and ClickFix lures.

SOCRadar's Threat Research Unit identified VectraRAT, a rental-only remote access trojan sold by a developer known as Vectra (formerly Nyxel), after an exposed online directory revealed samples, licenses, and operator logs across ten-plus servers. The toolkit includes a Linux control server, Windows implant, payload builder, and VectraHub panel, enabling hidden desktop access, keylogging, command execution, credential theft, file transfer, proxying, and silent privilege escalation. Of victims with OS data, 48 percent ran corporate Windows editions, and researchers recorded 38 genuine victim sessions in under a week, including file theft from business systems. Distribution occurs through the Amadey loader and ClickFix pages impersonating TurboTax, with custom TCP-based C2 over non-standard ports.

CISA advisory ICSA-26-258-03 discloses two vulnerabilities in mySCADA myPRO Manager <=2.1 with aggregate CVSS v3 of 9.8. CVE-2026-73807 (CVSS 9.8) lets unauthenticated network attackers access privileged management functions via the command API, while CVE-2026-82567 exposes an unauthenticated HTTP endpoint that sends arbitrary SMS messages through a connected GSM modem. Deployments span critical manufacturing, energy, food and agriculture, transportation, and water and wastewater sectors. CISA states no known public exploitation has been reported at this time.

Japan's Digital Agency disclosed that attackers exploited a medium-severity, already-patchable vulnerability in a VPN device to access the Government Solution Service (GSS), potentially leaking personal data of roughly 246,000 government employees, officials, and contractors across 23 ministries. The intrusion was detected on June 25 and confirmed as VPN exploitation on July 9, with public disclosure 78 days after detection. Exposed data includes about 236,000 names, 231,000 email addresses, 94,000 phone numbers, and 1,000 physical addresses; no My Number, bank account, or pension numbers were included. The compromised maintenance staff account was suspended and the compromised hardware isolated, but the VPN product and flaw were not disclosed.

The paper studies tree tensor networks (TTNs), which generalize deep linear networks and Tucker decompositions and embed arbitrary read-once Boolean formulas. It proves that every local minimum that is minimum-norm is global for every realizable target, so bad local minima do not distinguish typical from worst-case problems. Instead, learning difficulty arises from high-order degenerate saddle points caused by rank-deficiency, illustrated via a parity function case study, linking landscape geometry to computational hardness.

Circumstantial evidence links the data to identity verification firm IDScan, which confirmed it is investigating a breach, and the FBI is probing the incident. Licenses belonging to senior US officials, including Pete Hegseth, an FBI assistant director, and Krebs's own contacts were verified as genuine. The exfiltration appears ongoing, with the database growing by nearly 400,000 licenses in a single day, and the data carries significant national security value for foreign intelligence services.
