Hackers Can Turn Vulnerable LiteLLM AI Gateways Into Root Access and Cloud Credential Theft

Wiz found multiple LiteLLM AI gateway flaws, including a CVE-2026-59822 MCP auth bypass added to CISA KEV, enabling root code execution and cloud credential theft.

An internet scan of 3,074 exposed LiteLLM instances found 294 (9.6%) accepting the default sk-1234 master key and 191 (6.2%) requiring no authentication. CVE-2026-59822 lets a single-character Bearer token establish a valid MCP session via an OAuth2 fallback in versions before 1.84.0; the flaw is in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. CVE-2026-59821 allows Python code execution as root in the gateway container via unsanitized Custom Code Guardrails registration before 1.82.0-stable, and CVE-2026-35029 permits config changes leading to RCE and admin takeover. Admin access plus pass-through endpoints can reach cloud metadata services to steal IAM credentials.

Privacy Failure in Split-LLM Training, The Returned Gradient Nullifies the Decoys

Researchers show split-LLM training leaks privacy via zero-valued gradients on decoy rows, exposing which activations are real despite passing forward-channel checks.

A systems-security case study of a two-node split-LLM training setup found that the returned output gradient from an Untrusted Cloud Node is exactly zero for decoy rows, revealing which rows are real. Across nine seeds, zero patterns identified real rows in 4,096 of 4,096 frames per run, and an attack on frame contents recovered 0.65 to 1.50 percentage points of extra tokens over a baseline. Both datasets passed forward-channel privacy and quality checks but failed once the returned gradient was included. Row-wise gradient clipping and noise closed the leak for roughly 0.01 nats of held-out cross-entropy, though five unmeasured attack classes remain.

Scaling Verification of Cryptographic Software with Aeneas, Rust, and Lean

Microsoft SymCrypt implementations of SHA-3 and ML-KEM verified in Lean via Aeneas-extracted Rust models, with AI agents writing proofs.

The paper develops a methodology for verifying production Rust cryptographic code by using Aeneas to extract pure models into Lean, avoiding low-level pointer and aliasing reasoning. Applied to Microsoft's SymCrypt, it verifies SHA-3 and ML-KEM implementations ported from C to Rust and extends SymCrypt with FrodoKEM, ML-DSA, and HPKE. A 237 KLOC Lean development establishes safety, panic-freedom, and functional correctness of 16.7 KLOC of Rust supporting post-quantum cipher suites on x86-64 and ARM. AI agents autonomously write formal proofs verified by the Lean kernel, and evaluation shows verified Rust meets SymCrypt's performance and portability requirements.

GAUGE: A Formal Framework for Measuring Cryptographic Security under Heterogeneous Adversary Cost Models

GAUGE frames cryptographic security as profiles over adversary cost models, certifying a ranking reversal between ML-KEM-512 and AES-128 from a 4–5% memory pricing shift.

GAUGE represents cryptographic security as a function over admissible adversary cost models (a security profile), proves profiles are piecewise-linear and concave, and establishes a rating trilemma when two profiles cross. A polynomial-time linear-programming procedure certifies whether the ranking of two schemes is robust, reverses under admissible models, or is genuinely incomparable. Applied to NIST post-quantum standards, the framework certifies a ML-KEM-512 versus AES-128 ranking reversal from a 4–5% shift in memory pricing and measures lattice-sieving cost drift of 9.79 bits per year over eight years. A hybrid X25519 + ML-KEM-768 handshake reduces combined-break probability twenty-fold at a 2.3 kilobyte cost.

Differential Privacy Meets Fixed Parameter Tractability: Algorithms and Lower Bounds

Theory paper combines differential privacy with fixed-parameter tractable encoders, improving approximation guarantees for combinatorial optimization and proving new lower bounds.

The paper studies combinatorial optimization under epsilon-differential privacy within the implicit encoder-decoder framework of Gupta et al. (SODA 2010), generalizing it to allow fixed-parameter tractable encoders. This circumvents approximation barriers inherent to polynomial-time algorithms and yields improved guarantees for fundamental combinatorial optimization problems. The authors establish the first representation-independent lower bounds: assuming a non-uniform variant of the Gap Exponential Time Hypothesis, no epsilon-DP encoder-decoder pair can achieve certain approximation guarantees with a subexponential-time decoder for sufficiently small epsilon. Representation-dependent lower bounds are also provided for larger epsilon.

Understanding the Security Boundary of Obfuscation-based On-Device LLM Protection

Researchers formalize obfuscation primitives for TEE-protected on-device LLMs and show a Collapse attack breaks ArrowCloak, TSQP, and LoRO, then extend the boundary.

The paper formalizes obfuscation primitives for TEE-Shielded LLM Partition (TSLP) schemes that offload computationally intensive layers from a Trusted Execution Environment to external GPUs. A novel primitive-guided attack, Collapse, demonstrates a shared vulnerability in prominent published methods including ArrowCloak (Security'25), TSQP (S&P'25), and LoRO (NeurIPS'25). The authors then introduce two new obfuscation primitives and integrate them with existing constructs to formulate an extended security boundary (O_ext).

Cascading Gradient Inversion via LT-Code Inspired Peeling in Federated Learning

New gradient inversion attacks tied to erasure-coding theory recover 94–100% of ImageNet batches, showing federated learning privacy leakage is underestimated.

The paper connects gradient inversion in federated learning to erasure-correcting code theory, constructing analytic attacks that exceed previously known recovery bounds. The attacks recover batches exactly, with every sample's label, from a single FedSGD round, and certify each recovery without ground-truth data. On eight image and tabular benchmarks, even a passive attacker observing an honestly trained network recovers 94–100% of ImageNet batches up to size 128, and more than 90% actively at batch sizes of several hundred. The authors conclude that federated learning's privacy leakage has been underestimated.

Understanding the Usability of Cryptographic Verification Tools

Survey of Tamarin and ProVerif users reveals usability barriers: debugging non-termination, model validation, and opaque proof failures hinder cryptographic protocol verification.

The paper presents an exploratory human-centered survey of researchers, graduate students, and practitioners with hands-on experience using Tamarin, ProVerif, and related cryptographic protocol verification tools. Findings reveal usability barriers across the verification workflow, including difficulties debugging non-termination and performance issues plus the lack of systematic methods for validating formal models against real protocols. When proofs fail without concrete attacks, users commonly simplify models, add helper lemmas, and revisit modeling abstractions. Participants called for actionable diagnostics, clearer explanations of results, visualization, and automation for recurring proof tasks.

gr-PHYSEC: Real-time Channel-based Key Generation for Physical Layer Secure Wireless Communications

gr-PHYSEC GNU Radio module derives symmetric encryption keys from wireless channel randomness using a neural network, validated on robotic platforms with ADALM-Pluto SDRs.

The paper introduces gr-PHYSEC, a GNU Radio out-of-tree module for real-time physical-layer key generation that derives symmetric keys from the wireless channel's inherent randomness instead of pre-shared secrets. A trained neural network extracts channel features between trusted parties during probe exchanges; features are quantized into binary keys, reconciled via Reed-Solomon encoding, and secured with SHA-512 hashing before direct use for encryption. Real-world experiments at the FAU CAAI connected robotics testbed using ADALM Pluto software-defined radios and NVIDIA Jetson Orin demonstrated low key disagreement rates and NIST-verified randomness. Source code is publicly available on GitHub.

SpliTEE: Improving LLM Inference on Trusted Hardware with Differentially Private GPU Outsourcing

SpliTEE splits LLM inference between Intel TDX trusted execution and untrusted GPUs, using differential privacy instead of encryption to protect intermediate representations.

SpliTEE extends split inference to LLMs, running inference partly inside an Intel TDX TEE while masking intermediate inputs sent to untrusted GPUs with differential privacy rather than encryption. The authors show a prompt-reconstruction attack recovers nearly 80% of prompts from unmasked intermediate representations, motivating the masking. A global sensitivity analysis bounds the required DP noise scale, avoiding quantization and keeping models in floating point. The implementation is nearly twice as fast as full CPU-based TDX inference and 5-15 seconds faster than encryption-based Slalom with higher accuracy, evaluated on Llama-3.2-3B and Qwen3-4B.

Stealing AI Reasoning Traces

Researchers demonstrate a decryption jailbreak that extracts encrypted reasoning traces from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google LLM APIs via weaker sibling models.

The paper exploits the fact that encrypted chain-of-thought blocks returned by LLM providers are interchangeable across sessions, users, and models within a provider's ecosystem. Injecting an encrypted trace into a weaker, less-safeguarded model from the same provider forces it to output the trace in plaintext, bypassing anti-distillation mechanisms. Decoding 315,320 reasoning blocks scraped from public repositories recovered 367 PII artifacts and 182 credentials, showing large-scale private data leakage. The flaw also enables hidden hazardous information disclosure and invisible prompt injections embedded in encrypted blocks; mitigations were proposed after responsible disclosure.

Distributed and Private Textual Data Synthesis from Embeddings

Researchers propose a distributed differentially private text synthesis method combining DP summaries and secure protocols, removing the need for a trusted curator.

The paper presents a differential privacy and cryptography co-design for synthesizing textual training data without a trusted curator or tightly synchronized user participation. It releases a one-time DP summary in embedding space, identifying frequent semantic regions and their DP centroids to enable training-free offline text synthesis, with semantic support protection to avoid exposing rare user texts. A custom secure protocol enforces end-to-end DP guarantees over distributed user data. Across four benchmarks the approach achieves utility comparable to the state-of-the-art centralized DP synthesis method.

Implementing a White-Box Undetectable Backdoor for Random Fourier Features

Researchers implement Goldwasser's CLWE-based undetectable backdoor for Random Fourier Features models in numpy/scipy, confirming practical realizability with no detectable differences from clean models.

The paper provides an end-to-end implementation of the Goldwasser et al. white-box undetectable backdoor for models trained with the Random Fourier Features algorithm, using only numpy and scipy. It derives two samplers for the core GP_d(b_k) distribution: a rejection-sampling proxy and an exact closed-form sampler verified against its analytic form. Statistical indistinguishability tests covering weight-space and functional black-box comparisons found no detectable difference between backdoored and clean models across sparsity ratios. The underlying lattice hardness reduction was not reproduced, and the work demonstrates the threat is realizable with commodity scientific-computing tools rather than specialized cryptographic infrastructure.

New Cryptographic Context Injection Attack Could Let Web Pages Steal Grok Chat Data

Adversa AI demonstrated 'Cryptographic Context Injection' making xAI's Grok leak chat history and session data to attacker-controlled servers via encrypted web payloads.

Adversa AI disclosed a technique where a web page carries an encrypted JSON object (PBKDF2 and AES-256-GCM) that Grok's code-execution runtime decrypts, letting attacker instructions bypass content classifiers and reach the model's context. The decrypted instructions direct Grok to embed the user's name, approximate location, subscription tier and ongoing conversation into a URL it fetches, exfiltrating the data without confirmation. Testing targeted grok.com running Grok 4.5 Fast on August 19, 2026, with a reported 40% success rate over 20 attempts since June; no CVE, patch, or in-the-wild exploitation is reported. A related demonstration reproduced Gemini 3 Flash system instructions via a fabricated Python traceback, while GPT-5 failed to parse the payload and Claude Sonnet 4.5 flagged it as prompt injection.

ROSETTA: Efficient and Accurate Privacy-Preserving LLM Decoding via Hybrid CKKS/TFHE Evaluation

ROSETTA is a hybrid CKKS/TFHE homomorphic encryption framework for privacy-preserving LLM decoding, achieving up to 4.8x Softmax and 2.1x end-to-end speedups.

The paper proposes ROSETTA, a hybrid CKKS/TFHE fully homomorphic encryption framework for private inference on generative LLMs, targeting the nonlinear operations that dominate autoregressive decoding cost. It introduces an adaptive segmented lookup-table protocol based on TFHE and a scheme-aware operator-selection framework that assigns each nonlinear operator to CKKS or TFHE to minimize latency. Experiments show up to 4.8x Softmax speedup and 1.5-2.1x end-to-end decoding speedup over the state-of-the-art CacheMir framework.

On Identifying Sound Conditions for Frontrunning Resistance

Researchers formally define smart-contract frontrunning resistance, showing 55% of 393 audited vulnerabilities escape state-of-the-art detection, and find two undisclosed Ethereum flaws.

The paper gives the first formal definition of frontrunning vulnerability for smart contracts, grounded in how honest users interact with contracts rather than contract code alone. In a large-scale study of 287 smart contract audits, 55% of the 393 vulnerabilities reported by leading auditors fall outside the scope of state-of-the-art dynamic detection criteria. The authors present a sound algorithm for synthesizing secure interaction conditions and apply it to real-world contracts, uncovering previously undiscovered vulnerabilities in two Ethereum contracts.

Off Guard: Breaking LiteLLM from authentication bypass to cloud compromise

Wiz found LiteLLM auth bypass (CVE-2026-59822) and post-auth RCE (CVE-2026-59821) chainable to cloud compromise; the bypass is in CISA KEV with in-the-wild exploitation.

Wiz scanned roughly 3,074 internet-facing LiteLLM deployments and found 9.6% accepted the default master key sk-1234 or required no authentication, making post-auth attacks effectively pre-auth. The MCP endpoint accepts any Bearer token and grants a valid session (CVE-2026-59822), confirmed exploited in the wild via honeypots and added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Custom code guardrails allow post-auth root-level RCE via exec(compile(...)) (CVE-2026-59821), while pass-through endpoints lack URL validation, enabling cloud credential theft in post-auth scenarios. All assigned vulnerabilities have been patched; the research was presented at DEF CON 34.

SpecGuard: Inference-Time Backdoor Detection For Free

SpecGuard detects backdoored LLM behavior at inference time using speculative decoding acceptance rates, adding no extra model computation.

Researchers propose SpecGuard, an inference-time backdoor detector that repurposes draft-token acceptance rates from speculative decoding as a detection signal at zero added model-computation cost. When a trigger shifts the target model toward attacker-controlled behavior, the clean draft model's acceptance rate changes, exposing the backdoor; the paper formalizes when this signal appears and shows suppressing it weakens the backdoor. Experiments across diverse backdoor types and model families show reliable detection, including stealthy cases invisible to input-level filters. Speculative decoding is positioned as a free, always-on monitor for frequently updated deployed models.

A Note on Sphere Packing Bounds for Tuple Lattice Sieving

Proves upper bounds on k-irreducible unit vector set rates, yielding nearly tight asymptotics relevant to tuple lattice sieving in cryptanalysis.

The paper bounds the maximal asymptotic rate of k-irreducible sets of unit vectors via spherical code packing bounds. It shows R_k is sandwiched between (1/2 - o(1)) log2(k)/k and (1 + o(1)) log2(k)/k for large k. These almost-tight bounds inform subexponential complexity analyses of tuple lattice sieving, which underpins security estimates for lattice-based cryptography.

DRIFT: Removing Diffusion Watermarks by Deflecting the Generative Trajectory

Introduces DRIFT, a black-box attack removing diffusion watermarks by deflecting generative trajectories, achieving 98-100% success across nine watermarking schemes.

The paper derives information-theoretic and Wasserstein source-dependence bounds and shows the first verifier-rejected rung is least distorted among rejected rungs. Across nine watermarks spanning three paradigms, DRIFT achieves 98-100% attack success with the best image quality among compared attacks, without secret keys, verifier internals, or per-image gradient optimization.

Human Attacker Hits Machine-Speed Exploitation of Marimo RCE

Sysdig details a human attacker chaining pre-auth RCE in Marimo (CVE-2026-39987) to AWS credentials and a bastion host in eight seconds.

Sysdig's Threat Research Team documented an intrusion where an operator exploited CVE-2026-39987, a pre-auth RCE in the Marimo notebook terminal WebSocket endpoint, gaining an interactive shell with no credentials. The attacker harvested AWS credentials from the process environment and Redis backend, retrieved an SSH private key from AWS Secrets Manager, and authenticated to an internet-reachable bastion host. The chain fired in eight seconds after roughly four hours of toolkit building, logging over 850 commands during a nine-hour session. The flaw, fixed in Marimo 0.23.0, has been on CISA's KEV catalog with a May 7, 2026 federal remediation deadline.

Predicting Privacy Leakage from Weight Spectral Density

Study shows WeightWatcher spectral metrics like stable rank correlate with membership inference vulnerability, enabling cheaper ML privacy auditing.

The paper tests whether spectral metrics from the heavy-tailed self-regularisation framework can proxy membership inference attack (MIA) vulnerability without training expensive shadow models. On image and tabular classification tasks, stable rank correlates positively with overall MIA success, while Log alpha-Norm correlates negatively at the low false-positive regime. These correlations are stronger than those obtained from the generalisation gap, suggesting weight spectra capture leakage information overfitting measures miss. The authors propose spectral analysis as a scalable direction for privacy auditing.

Differentially Private EEG Feature Anonymization: A Privacy-Utility Case Study in Clinical Neurophysiology

Case study applies Gaussian and Laplace differential privacy to clinical EEG features, quantifying privacy-utility trade-offs across three deployment scenarios.

Researchers evaluate subject-level differential privacy for EEG-derived feature representations using Gaussian and Laplace perturbations across client-side, centralized server-side, and decentralized local training scenarios. Utility is assessed with statistical measures and a downstream machine-learning check on clinical neurophysiology data. Results show DP can be integrated into EEG workflows, but mechanism choice, privacy parameters, and sensitivity calibration strongly influence data utility, particularly on small and imbalanced clinical datasets. The study highlights the privacy-utility trade-off in protecting biomedical signals against re-identification and inference risks.

Forging Tree-Ring: Reproducing and Instrumenting Black-Box Semantic Watermark Forgery

Reprompt watermark forgery reproduces on Stable Diffusion XL using free-tier T4 GPUs, with forged images accepted by the genuine detector 5 of 6 times.

The authors reproduce the Reprompt forgery attack of Müller et al. against Tree-Ring watermarking on Stable Diffusion XL using the released code on free-tier dual T4 GPUs with 14.6 GB usable memory, versus the A40 hardware of the original study. Over six trials, the genuine detector flagged genuine images 6/6, clean images 0/6, and forged images 5/6, at 325-332 seconds per attack. They also recovered the detector's discarded non-central chi-square statistic and built two natural scores separating forged images from the clean null at AUC 0.861 and 0.972. Researchers Use Claude to Port Pre-Auth RCE Exploit From One PLC Model to Another

Forescout used Anthropic's Claude to port a working pre-auth RCE exploit for CVE-2021-31886 between WAGO PLCs, executing ARM shellcode on live hardware.

Forescout Vedere Labs used Claude interactively to port an RCE exploit for CVE-2021-31886, a CVSS 9.8 stack buffer overflow in the Nucleus FTP server's USER command, from a WAGO 750-852 to a WAGO 750-831 PLC, running attacker-supplied ARM shellcode.
