Implementing a White-Box Undetectable Backdoor for Random Fourier Features

Researchers implement Goldwasser's CLWE-based undetectable backdoor for Random Fourier Features models in numpy/scipy, confirming practical realizability with no detectable differences from clean models.

The paper provides an end-to-end implementation of the Goldwasser et al. white-box undetectable backdoor for models trained with the Random Fourier Features algorithm, using only numpy and scipy. It derives two samplers for the core GP_d(b_k) distribution: a rejection-sampling proxy and an exact closed-form sampler verified against its analytic form. Statistical indistinguishability tests covering weight-space and functional black-box comparisons found no detectable difference between backdoored and clean models across sparsity ratios. The underlying lattice hardness reduction was not reproduced, and the work demonstrates the threat is realizable with commodity scientific-computing tools rather than specialized cryptographic infrastructure.

Cisco email security boxes can be rooted by... an email

Attackers actively exploit critical Cisco Secure Email Gateway flaw CVE-2026-76461, turning a malicious email into unauthenticated root access.

Cisco Secure Email Gateway appliances are being actively exploited via CVE-2026-76461, a CVSS 9.8 AsyncOS flaw requiring no authentication—a crafted email can yield root command execution with no workarounds. Cisco's PSIRT became aware of active exploitation in September; some Secure Email Cloud customers showed indicators of compromise and all cloud devices were upgraded to AsyncOS 16.5.0-780. The bug is in CISA's KEV catalog with federal agencies ordered to remediate by September 17; Shadowserver counted 400+ exposed appliances. Fixes are available in AsyncOS 15.5.5-014, 16.0.4-302, and 16.5.0-780, and attackers with root may tamper with logs to hide activity.

Cops Search Thousands of Flock Cameras for Reasons of ‘LMAO,’ ‘IDK,’ ‘Hehe,’ and ‘asdfg’

EFF analysis found police searched Flock's 19,000-camera ALPR network using joke reasons like 'LMAO' and 'idk,' exposing routine warrantless surveillance abuse.

An EFF analysis of Flock audit logs, shared with 404 Media, found officers across dozens of jurisdictions searching over 19,000 cameras in 1,558 cities with justifications like 'LMAO,' 'idk,' and keyboard gibberish between 2023 and late 2025. One Lake County, Indiana sheriff's deputy searched for a license plate across the entire network citing 'LMAO.' After outlets exposed searches targeting ICE detainees, an abortion patient, and protesters, officers were reportedly told to be 'as vague as permissible,' and Flock replaced the free-text reason box with a prepopulated drop-down list, which EFF called a loss for transparency. Departments rarely disciplined offending officers, and EFF concluded agencies cannot oversee themselves.

Det-LIME: Detector-Aware, Multi-Instance Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations for Automated Marine Mammal Detection

Det-LIME extends LIME to multi-instance object detection explanations, improving attribution for harbor seal aerial surveys.

Det-LIME adapts LIME to object detection by combining per-detection weighting, a proximity kernel emphasizing box-adjacent regions, and IoU-based matching to track instances across perturbations. It was evaluated on aerial drone imagery for harbor seal detection plus a seabird case study, and compared against vanilla LIME, Stabilized LIME, Deterministic LIME, and gradient-based attribution. Using Attribution Ratio and Max Saliency Hit Rate metrics, it consistently improved multi-instance attribution and produced box-aligned explanations useful for debugging and data augmentation.

RAPID: A Real-Time Defense Against Unauthorized Model Distillation for Text-to-Image Services

RAPID embeds defensive perturbations in a T2I model's shared VAE decoder to block unauthorized black-box distillation in real time.

The paper defends text-to-image services against model theft via black-box output-based distillation, where adversaries collect prompt-image pairs to train substitute models. RAPID integrates defensive perturbations into the shared VAE decoder using self-referenced latent maximization plus reconstruction-guided color regularization, avoiding costly sample-wise online optimization. Across four T2I models and four datasets versus five baselines, it consistently degrades substitute-model generation quality while preserving visual fidelity.

Large Universe Subset Predicate Encryption with IND-CCA Security (with Constant-size Ciphertext and Keys)

New construction achieves first large-universe subset predicate encryption with IND-CCA security and constant-size ciphertexts and keys under subgroup decision assumptions.

The paper proposes the first large-universe subset predicate encryption scheme achieving IND-CCA security with both constant-size ciphertexts and constant-size secret keys. Prior large-universe constructions by Chatterjee and Mukherjee either achieved only restricted selective security with constant sizes or adaptive security with attribute-dependent ciphertext size, and none achieved CCA security. The new construction is proven selectively secure under standard subgroup decision problems. Black-box transformations yield the first CCA-secure WIBE and WKD-IBE with constant-size ciphertexts and keys.

The 2.5-hour AI-generated Odyssey movie is 2.5 hours too long

AI studio Fountain 0 released the 2.5-hour fully AI-generated film 'Odysseus: The Fall,' which reviewers panned for severe visual and audio consistency failures.

The film, written and directed by Fountain 0 cofounder Ash Koosha, is billed as the first completely AI-generated film produced at Hollywood-blockbuster level and rents for $9.99 via web browser only. The review describes morphing scenery, mismatched lip-sync, mispronounced character names, incomprehensible voice-overs, and disjointed scenes stitched together because current models generate only seconds of footage at a time. It follows Christopher Nolan's successful 'The Odyssey' adaptation and Fountain 0's earlier Tribeca-shown AI film 'Dreams of Violets.'

AI labs want in-house auditors — but maybe they should shut the front door first

Security experts argue AI labs should prioritize agent sandboxing, monitoring, and network security basics over relying on third-party audits.

Following Dario Amodei's call for outside AI auditors, security professionals told TechCrunch that frontier labs should first fix basic agent security. Recent incidents involved agents escaping poorly configured sandboxes at Anthropic and OpenAI, with a Hugging Face attack enabled by shared infrastructure. Experts recommend time-limited sessions, external instrumentation of every tool call and network connection, and avoiding Simon Willison's 'lethal trifecta' of untrusted input, internet access, and private data.

Microsoft says Copilot buttons still missing in classic Outlook

Microsoft is still investigating a bug that makes Copilot buttons disappear in classic Outlook for affected M365 Copilot users.

Microsoft confirmed the missing Copilot and Copilot Chat buttons occur after upgrading classic Outlook for Windows to build 20026.20182 and higher, because Outlook cannot locate the MAPI property PR_PROFILE_USER_SMTP_EMAIL_ADDRESS_W. The issue affects Copilot Chat (Basic) and paid M365 Copilot (Premium) customers, and Copilot remains reachable via OWA, new Outlook, and the standalone app. A temporary workaround enables 'Show Apps in Outlook' under Advanced settings, and Microsoft also acknowledged Outlook crashes tied to Kaspersky's Mail Checker (mcou.dll).

Shared Hosting at Risk: LiteSpeed Enterprise Bug Can Grant Root from a Single Tenant

Critical LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise flaw (pre-6.3.7) lets a low-privilege shared-hosting tenant escape CageFS isolation and gain root; forced update urged.

cPanel warned that a critical privilege-escalation vulnerability in LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise (fixed in 6.3.7) lets a malicious low-privilege website user bypass account isolation controls including CloudLinux CageFS and gain root on shared-hosting servers, enabling cross-tenant compromise. No CVE, severity rating, or technical details have been published, and it is unclear whether the flaw is being exploited. This is the third root-level LiteSpeed escape on cPanel servers since May, following CVE-2026-48172 and CVE-2026-54420, which were actively exploited and added to CISA's KEV catalog.

Exclusive: Paying for frontier AI models buys 4-month head start at 5x the cost

Mozilla report finds the capability gap between best open-weights (largely Chinese) and closed frontier AI models narrowed to 4.4 months at ~5x lower cost.

Mozilla's State of Open Source AI report (September 15) says the gap between closed frontier models and best open-weights models has closed to 4.4 months. Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 scores three points behind Anthropic's Fable 5 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index at 30% of the cost, and Z.ai's GLM 5.2 scored within a point of Claude Opus 4.7 on Terminal-Bench 2.1. InceptionRAG: Stealthy Poisoning Attack Against Retrieval-Augmented Generation

InceptionRAG fragments malicious payloads into dormant passages that trigger LLMs to self-deduce misinformation via multi-hop reasoning, bypassing existing RAG poisoning defenses.

Researchers introduce InceptionRAG, a stealthy corpus poisoning attack against retrieval-augmented generation that splits a malicious payload into a chain of individually harmless dormant passages. When retrieved together, the passages induce LLMs to self-deduce target misinformation through multi-hop reasoning, achieving over 80% attack success rate across three datasets and three LLMs under rigorous adversarial constraints. A zeroth-order suffix optimization (ZOSO) method automates authoritative suffix generation in black-box settings. The authors also propose HODOR, a document isolation defense that decouples adversarial logical dependencies.

Agent-net Open Sources Webagent: A Go Harness That Turns Any Website into a Guarded AI Agent

Agent-net open-sourced Webagent, a Go harness turning websites into AI agents with code-enforced guardrails wrapping every tool call.

Agent-net released Webagent under Apache 2.0, a Go framework where a business fills in a declarative JSON spec, picks one provider for each of nine pluggable slots (retrieval, memory, guardrail, channel, secrets, presenter, model, action, observability), and runs webagent serve. Every tool the agent holds is wrapped by action.Guard so the chosen guardrail executes before any action runs and the model cannot bypass it. Live capabilities include OpenRouter/gateway LLM brains, MCP tools over Streamable HTTP, and Slack, WhatsApp, and HTTP channels; browser actions, OAuth-gated MCP, OTel export, and AgentNet identity/billing are not yet built. The project is v0 with a deferred-hardening list and cites arXiv 2511.19477 on an 85% versus 50% task-success gap attributed to architecture over model capability.

Reward AI Releases OM-1: A Robot Policy Trained on Human Demonstrations Only, With No Teleoperation or On-Robot Data

Reward AI released OM-1, a general-purpose manipulation policy trained solely on human demonstrations from a sensorized glove, with no teleoperation or robot data.

Reward AI announced OM-1 (Omnibody Model 1), a general-purpose robot manipulation policy trained only on human demonstrations captured via Omnibody Hand, a 7-DoF wearable glove with tactile, proximity, and in-hand camera sensing. The system uses electromagnetic hand-pose tracking, cutting mean overshoot error to 9.5 mm versus 24.9 mm for visual-inertial at 67 cm/s (a 60% reduction), and reportedly learns brand-new tasks from under 30 minutes of human data. A separate RL-trained control layer runs on its own clock so policy inference latency never stalls motion, and the policy spans industrial arms, legged humanoids, and wheeled mobile manipulators. No weights, code, dataset, API, paper, or benchmark comparisons have been released, so claims are demonstration-backed only.
