Cyera also revealed CVE-2026-6471 ('PostGREShell'), a 12-year-old PostgreSQL logical-decoding flaw allowing code execution via REPLICATION-privileged accounts.

Entrust turns cryptographic inventory data into security action

Entrust adds CBOM import/export, Ansible automation, and post-quantum readiness features to its Cryptographic Security Platform.

Entrust announced new capabilities for its Cryptographic Security Platform, including CBOM import/export to build cryptographic inventories, correlate assets and dependencies, and prioritize remediation of noncompliant or vulnerable crypto. New Ansible-based automation extends certificate lifecycle management across public and private PKI, while composite algorithm and SPIRE-based capabilities support phased post-quantum migration and trusted identities for AI agents. The platform is now deployable as-a-service or on-premises, aligning with DORA, NIS2, and recent U.S. post-quantum requirements.

NCSC Warns of Critical Check Point VPN Flaws as Large-Scale Exploitation Is Expected

Dutch NCSC warns of two critical CVSS 9.8 Check Point VPN flaws enabling unauthenticated remote code execution, urging immediate patching before mass exploitation.

The Dutch NCSC warned that CVE-2026-85102 and CVE-2026-85103, both rated 9.8 CVSS, allow unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on Check Point Quantum Security Gateway, Spark Firewall, and Security Management Server deployments when VPN is enabled. CVE-2026-85102 stems from improper certificate trust validation during VPN negotiation, while CVE-2026-85103 is a heap-based buffer overflow in ASN.1 certificate decoding. Check Point shipped emergency updates on September 9, 2026, including R82.10 Take 44, R82 Take 126, and R81.20 Take 166 or later, plus LivePatch for eligible systems. No public exploit code exists yet, but the NCSC rates exploitation likelihood high and recommends restricting UDP ports 500 and 4500 to known peers as a stopgap.

What’s next for CISA’s CDM program that gives cybersecurity tools to federal agencies

CISA officials outline future plans for the CDM program, emphasizing speed, automation, unified data, and data-driven federal risk management.

Speaking at an Elastic Federal Cyber Defense Breakfast, CISA officials described next steps for the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program that supplies cybersecurity tools to federal agencies. Acting deputy program manager Richard Grabowski named velocity, unification, and data-driven risk management as core goals, including a three-year roadmap to expand SIEM-as-a-Service. Federal CISO Mike Duffy urged aggregating demand across agencies, buying outcomes rather than products, and designing acquisition for continuous improvement. CISA's Matt House tied the program's evolution to post-SolarWinds needs for a government-wide common operating picture.

NIST and CISA finalize playbook to stop token theft and forgery

NIST and CISA finalized NIST IR 8587, a playbook helping federal agencies and cloud providers defend identity tokens against theft and forgery.

The finalized NIST IR 8587 guidance covers protecting token signing keys, verifying tokens, lifetimes, revocation, session management, and dividing security responsibilities between cloud providers and customers. It cites an incident in which foreign actors forged tokens with a stolen commercial signing key to steal more than 60,000 emails from one government agency. It also recommends extending token protections to AI agents and preparing identity systems for a future post-quantum cryptography transition.

Supreme Court denies Trump request to allow USPS mail ballot changes

Supreme Court denied the Trump administration's emergency request to implement USPS mail ballot changes before the 2026 midterms, calling it arbitrary and capricious.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected 7-2 the Trump administration's petition to change how the U.S. Postal Service handles mail-in ballots for the 2026 midterm elections. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote the administration was unlikely to succeed, while Justice Brett Kavanaugh cited unreasonably short timelines for state election officials. The blocked executive order would have required USPS citizenship verification, barcode tracking of ballot envelopes, and DHS-compiled "State Citizenship Lists"; a whistleblower alleged a rushed effort to install three restrictive IT verification systems. Justices Alito and Thomas dissented, arguing states and organizations lacked standing.

Coast Guard, FBI board US-bound foreign ships in order to probe for cyberattacks

US Coast Guard and FBI boarded two foreign tankers bound for the US after indications their vessel networks were compromised, investigating possible Iranian involvement.

The Coast Guard and FBI conducted joint offshore security boardings of two commercial ships in the Gulf of Mexico on August 21 and 24 to examine their operational and IT systems following indications both networks were compromised. The vessels reportedly carried oil and natural gas, and one was hacked in the Strait of Gibraltar and lost communications for over 30 hours. No operational disruptions, vessel instability, or environmental impacts have been reported, and authorities are investigating whether Iran or another group exploiting US-Iran tensions was behind the attacks.

Cisco warns customers of actively exploited zero-day in email gateways

Actively exploited Cisco Secure Email Gateway zero-day CVE-2026-76461 allows unauthenticated root command execution; CISA added it to KEV.

Cisco disclosed CVE-2026-76461, a zero-day in AsyncOS for Cisco Secure Email Gateway that was exploited before disclosure and lets unauthenticated remote attackers execute commands with root privileges on cloud and on-premises instances. CISA promptly added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and Cisco has directly contacted cloud customers with indicators of compromise while deploying mitigations. Rapid7 and VulnCheck warn compromised gateways could enable silent email monitoring and internal pivoting from on-premises deployments.

CISA and NIST Release Technical Checklist for Safeguarding Identity Tokens From Theft and Misuse

CISA and NIST published NIST IR 8587, final guidance for protecting identity tokens from forgery, theft, replay, and signing-key compromise.

NIST Interagency Report 8587 (September 15, 2026) expands the IA-13 'Identity Providers and Authorization Servers' control from NIST SP 800-53 R5.1.1, guiding federal agencies and cloud providers on SSO, identity federation, and machine-to-machine authentication. It requires hardware-backed signing-key storage for moderate-impact systems, 90-day key rotation for high-impact systems, token lifetimes under one hour, and sender-constrained mechanisms such as mutual TLS and DPoP. The report cites incidents including forged SAML assertions that exposed over 60,000 emails from a federal agency. It also extends guidance to agentic AI systems using signed tokens and urges post-quantum cryptography migration planning.
