Silver Fox Targets Japanese Manufacturer with 3

Chinese group Silver Fox used new vulnerable drivers and DLL side-loading to deploy ValleyRAT at a Japanese industrial manufacturer.

Cato Networks detailed a Silver Fox campaign against a Japanese industrial manufacturing organization combining new vulnerable-driver abuse (BootRepair.sys and EnPortv.sys alongside wsftprm.sys), DLL side-loading via Zeon Corporation PDF binaries, and NTDLL unhooking to deliver ValleyRAT (Winos 4.0), a Gh0st RAT variant. The chain starts with an invoice-themed phishing lure hosting attacker-controlled content on legitimate QQ and Tencent Cloud services. Shellcode is injected into svchost.exe via thread-context hijacking, and a dual watchdog design pairs payload monitoring with a scheduled-task batch script for persistence. A separate 180-day VirusTotal retrohunt found 146 Atlas RAT samples across six PDB builds, though the Silver Fox link remains circumstantial.

Dream-RSI: Recursive Self-Improvement through Evolving Worlds

Dream-RSI refines exploration policies by dreaming in replay simulators built from discovery history, cutting discovery costs across coding tasks.

Dream-RSI is a framework for scalable recursive self-improvement in autonomous coding agents, where a lightweight orchestration layer makes exploration explicit and programmable while leaving the underlying agent unchanged. Its core insight is that accumulated discovery history can serve as a replay simulator over the realized search space, providing immediate, low-cost off-policy feedback to evaluate and refine exploration policies without expensive online evaluations. Across algorithm engineering, mathematical optimization, and GPU kernel engineering, Dream-RSI achieves competitive or improved discovery quality at substantially reduced cost.

NVIDIA Details BioNeMo Inference Runtime (BioIR): 2.90x Higher Boltz-2 Folding Throughput and 58.5K Residues per GPU-Hour on 8xH100

NVIDIA released BioNeMo Inference Runtime (BioIR), an open-source PyTorch-compatible library delivering 2.90x higher Boltz-2 protein-folding throughput on 8xH100 GPUs.

NVIDIA detailed BioIR, a Python library that accelerates Boltz-2, OpenFold2, and OpenFold3 structure-prediction inference on NVIDIA GPUs while preserving standard PyTorch workflows. On a matched benchmark of 1,000 human dimers on 8xH100 80GB GPUs, BioIR delivered 58.5K folded residues per GPU-hour versus 20.2K for a torch.compile baseline, a 2.90x throughput gain. BioIR already powered the AlphaFold Database expansion, generating about 31 million candidate complexes across 4,777 proteomes, with 1.81 million released as high-confidence predictions. Extrapolated to 1 million targets, estimated folding energy drops from 35 MWh to 11 MWh at 8-GPU TDP equivalents.

September 2026 Patch Tuesday: Record patch count, 2 zero-days, and a SigRed successor

Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday delivers a record patch count, fixing two exploited zero-days and a wormable DNS flaw dubbed a SigRed successor.

Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday sets another record patch count, fixing two vulnerabilities exploited as zero-days: CVE-2026-81963, a Windows Update Stack low-privilege-to-SYSTEM escalation reported by MSTIC, and CVE-2026-85880, a Windows Advanced Local Procedure Call escalation reported by Proofpoint. Zero Day Initiative's Dustin Childs urges priority on a cluster of 20 potentially wormable bugs including DNS RCE CVE-2026-69730, described as a spiritual successor to SigRed, plus Kerberos authentication bypass CVE-2026-69676 that could give any authenticated domain user RCE on domain controllers, and Exchange RCE CVE-2026-55007 via a malicious Visio attachment. All Windows fixes are bundled in cumulative updates, and experts stress prioritizing exploitable, reachable flaws over raw patch counts.

Risky Bulletin: Russia tells data centers to deploy drone defenses

Russia ordered data center operators to deploy drone strike defenses under a Putin decree allowing temporary state takeover of unprotected critical infrastructure.

The Russian government instructed data center operators to deploy protections against drone strikes under a presidential decree signed by Putin that allows temporary state administration of critical infrastructure operators failing to defend against Ukrainian hacks and drone strikes. Although data centers are not formally critical infrastructure in Russia, the decree applies to them because other sectors depend heavily on cloud services; Russia has more than 180 data centers, over 80% in the European region within range of Ukrainian strikes. The digest also reports a Dropbox breach affecting nearly 5,000 accounts via the Lenovo ID integration, spyware attacks on at least 14 Serbians using NoviSpy or Pegasus, and a password recovery attack targeting hundreds of thousands of X accounts tied to the new X Money service. Other items include a 14-hour compromise of Coder's Cloudflare infrastructure delivering malicious Terraform modules, donor data breaches at Davayte and You Are Not Alone via the Stripe/WooCommerce integration, a $2.5M Aquifer crypto heist, and a TVING breach exposing data of almost 40 million accounts.

The extension you never installed: KREMLIN forges Chrome's own integrity checks to steal banking sessions

Elastic details KREMLIN, a Brazilian banking malware whose malicious Chrome/Edge extension forges Chromium integrity checks to steal sessions.

Elastic Security Labs tracked operation REF9334 and its KREMLIN toolkit, a Brazilian banking malware campaign impersonating twelve banks across seven campaigns since May 2025. The infection chain uses multi-stage obfuscated JavaScript loaders with sandbox checks (file and process counting), scheduled-task persistence, and an Ethereum smart contract acting as a dead-drop resolver for C2 and payload URLs, abusing Archive.org for hosting. The malicious browser extension bypasses Chromium integrity mechanisms by manipulating Secure Preferences and regenerating required HMACs and App-Bound encrypted hashes. Threat Command disrupted over 1,500 infections by registering the kill-switch canary domain.

Weekly ThreatsDay bulletin details a ShinyHunters-style social engineering hit on ReliaQuest, the 296,000-device Dysphoria IoT botnet, and several new malware families.

ReliaQuest confirmed a social engineering attack on August 22, 2026, in which an attacker used a fake SSO page and MFA push approval to gain brief view-only access to an identity dashboard, with tactics matching ShinyHunters, which has since listed the firm on its leak portal. The Shadowserver Foundation reported the Dysphoria botnet has compromised nearly 296,000 IoT devices for DDoS attacks and recently added residential proxy capability. Cisco Talos documented JWR, an operator-driven phishing-as-a-service framework linked to The Outsider that harvests credentials, identity documents, and 2FA codes over an encrypted WebSocket. New malware coverage includes the Octagon Android fraud bot ($1,400/month), the C2Looper Rust backdoor delivered via ClickFix, and the Aeternum loader that moved C2 to the Polygon blockchain.

A 2026 buyer's guide compares 12 endpoint privilege management tools, ranking CyberArk and BeyondTrust as enterprise leaders.

An editorial comparison evaluates 12 endpoint privilege management (EPM) tools on elevation control, manageability, and pricing model. The guide argues that standing local-admin rights fuel ransomware and lateral movement, making their removal a high-impact control that cyber insurers increasingly mandate. CyberArk and BeyondTrust are positioned as enterprise-depth leaders, with Delinea, Heimdal, and ManageEngine for the mid-market, and Admin By Request and CyberFOX AutoElevate for SMBs and MSPs. Pricing is generally per endpoint or per user, and the article is explicitly an assessment rather than a product release or incident report.
