Malspam Targeting Brazil Continues to Evolve

Brazilian malspam campaigns continue evolving, abusing Google URL shortener and Dropbox and using Squiblydoo plus DLL side-loading to deploy likely infostealing botnet malware.

A June 2017 Brazilian malspam campaign spoofed IPTU tax notification emails, using the recipient's address as the sender, and abused Google's URL shortener and Dropbox to deliver a zip containing a malicious Windows shortcut (.lnk) file. The LNK used the Squiblydoo technique (regsvr32.exe) to download and execute a scriptlet with elevated privileges, retrieving a signed G-Buster Browser Defense executable alongside a malicious fltLib.dll loaded via side-loading, likely an information-stealing botnet. Post-infection HTTP traffic exposed over 400 infected Windows hosts, mostly in Brazil, with 2,132 Banload-tagged samples observed in the first half of 2017.

GoCaracal Malware Uses Ethereum Smart Contract to Fetch Replacement C2 Address

Arctic Wolf links new Go-based GoCaracal malware with Ethereum smart-contract C2 fallback to Dark Caracal, targeting a Venezuelan communications organization.

Arctic Wolf assessed with medium confidence that a June 2026 intrusion at an unnamed Venezuelan communications organization used GoCaracal, a previously undocumented Go-based malware framework linked to Dark Caracal. The lightweight profile provides encrypted C2, interactive shell access, and shellcode injection; the extended profile adds browser data theft, keylogging, WebRTC remote desktop, and SOCKS5 proxying. When the primary C2 server is unreachable, the malware queries an Ethereum smart contract via eth_getStorageAt at public JSON-RPC endpoints to fetch a replacement C2 address. Bandook was deployed in parallel, and Arctic Wolf published a YARA rule and indicators of compromise.

Fake Apple Support AI Calls Target Stolen-Device Owners for Passcodes and 2FA Codes

SOCRadar details AnonyMousKIT, a phishing-as-a-service platform using AI voice agents posing as Apple Support to steal passcodes and 2FA codes.

SOCRadar's Threat Research Unit documented AnonyMousKIT, a credit-metered phishing-as-a-service platform that strips Activation Lock from stolen Apple devices across email, SMS, WhatsApp, recorded calls and AI voice agents. The 'Alice from Apple Support' personas request the device passcode, Apple ID credentials and a live 2FA code, with lures citing the handset's model identifier and live Find My status. Of 200 recovered AI calls made between August 31, 2025 and May 30, 2026, 179 targeted Brazil, and the calls cost $19.24 total via voice platform Vapi. Exposed log paths revealed 30 kit installations on 42 domains and 6,092 send attempts family-wide between March and July 2026.

AnonyMousKIT phishing-as-a-service uses AI voice calls to steal iPhone passcodes

SOCRadar details AnonyMousKIT, an active phishing-as-a-service platform using AI voice agents across 506 domains to steal Apple ID credentials from stolen iPhone owners.

SOCRadar analyzed AnonyMousKIT, a pay-per-action phishing-as-a-service platform built to harvest Apple ID credentials needed to remove Activation Lock from stolen iPhones. A bare-relative-paths flaw exposed a reseller supply chain of 506 domains and 168 storefront brands active since early 2024, plus 200 call logs and 55 transcripts, with 179 of 200 calls going to Brazil at a total cost of $19.24. Voice-agent personas like 'Alice Dias, Apple Support' convince victims to dictate their four- or six-digit passcode and enter an unlock code from a security link, allowing thieves to remove Activation Lock and resell devices. The platform ran five personas in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese and remained active at the end of the investigation.

GentleKiller targets more than 400 security processes across 48 products

ESET details the Gentlemen ransomware gang's in-house GentleKiller EDR-killer framework targeting over 400 security processes across 48 products, supplied to affiliates.

ESET analyzed the Gentlemen ransomware gang's in-house GentleKiller EDR-killer framework, confirmed through an internal data leak from May 2026. The framework has at least eight variants impersonating legitimate security products and abusing vulnerable or malicious kernel drivers, targeting more than 400 process names across 48 security products. Gentlemen emerged in late 2025, became one of the five most active ransomware gangs in Q1 2026, offers affiliates a 90% ransom share, and practices double extortion using Go-based and C-based ESXi encryptors. The suite also reuses outside tools including HexKiller, ThrottleBlood, and HavocKiller, unified by a shared evasion layer that mimics well-known security vendors.
