DDRop Attack Forces Intel TDX Confidential VMs Into Debug Mode and Exposes Memory
KU Leuven and ETH Zurich researchers released DDRop PoC hardware that forces Intel TDX confidential VMs into debug mode and exposes plaintext memory.
Researchers from KU Leuven, ETH Zurich, Google, and Durham University published proof-of-concept code, hardware designs, and firmware for DDRop, a DDR5 interposer that injects parity errors to drop selected cache-line writebacks. Because Intel TDX, Intel Scalable SGX, and AMD SEV-SNP lack per-line cryptographic freshness, processors decrypt and accept stale DRAM contents as current state. The PoC flips a victim's ATTRIBUTES.DEBUG flag to enable TDX debug mode, then copies victim memory in plaintext and can forge attestation reports. Affected environments include Intel 5th- and 6th-generation Xeon Scalable with TDX; Intel says the attack falls outside its cloud-computing threat model.
Fortinet Code Execution Flaw Exploited in PivotC2 RAT Attacks
Threat actors exploit Fortinet heap-based buffer overflow CVE-2025-25249 to deploy PivotC2 RAT, infecting 178 devices and exfiltrating data from US targets.
SOCRadar reports exploitation of an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability, CVE-2025-25249 (CVSS 7.4), patched in January in FortiOS and FortiSwitchManager. Attackers scanned over 30,000 IP addresses, infected 178 devices with PivotC2 RAT, and at least two intrusions resulted in data exfiltration, primarily targeting US entities. SOCRadar attributes attacks to a likely Russian-speaking cybercrime actor and suggests the RAT was AI-assisted, in use since July 2026. CISA added the CVE to the KEV catalog with a three-day BOD 26-04 patch deadline for federal agencies.
IFM Releases K2 Horizon: Six Apache 2.0 Models From 0.9B to 375B
MBZUAI's IFM released K2 Horizon, six Apache 2.0 models (0.9B-375B) with open training data, code, and checkpoints, claiming the largest fully open-source launch.
The Institute of Foundation Models (IFM), launched by MBZUAI, released K2 Horizon: six Apache 2.0 models (0.9B, 3.7B, 7B, 32B, 36B-A4B, 375B-A23B) shipping with the ~20-trillion-token pretraining corpus, intermediate checkpoints, training code, and logs, which IFM calls the largest fully open-source launch in AI history. The 375B-A23B scores 70.2 on Terminal-Bench 2.1 and 87.3 on GPQA Diamond; the 7B model posts 70.6 on SWE-bench Verified. New techniques include MoVA, which extends MoE routing into attention (36B total, ~4B active), and Uno, a LoRA adapter giving roughly 3x lossless decoding speedup. IFM's own reward-hacking audit re-scored 375B-A23B from 70.2% to 66.9% after flagging 24 of 712 Terminal-Bench trials.
Risky Bulletin: BEC campaign steals €35 million from French notaries
Hackers stole over €35 million from 500+ French notary offices in a four-year BEC campaign; ANSSI spent two years helping evict the attackers.
A business email compromise campaign breached more than 500 French notary offices — about 7% of all French notaries per the Conseil Supérieur du Notariat — over four years, stealing more than €35 million by phishing initial access and silently modifying wire transfer details. France's cybersecurity agency ANSSI worked for two years behind the scenes to help notaries remove the persistent attackers, who had deep access; officials also feared hackers could issue fake notarized acts such as marriage certificates or forged real estate deals. No forged documents have been found so far, but notaries have added two-factor authentication and in-person requirements for banking details, and banks added extra checks in 2024. The newsletter also notes other incidents, including a $320 million Bitcoin extraction from Blockstream's Liquid Network and a JetBrains Cadence breach via TeamCity servers.
Microsoft's August 2026 Patch Tuesday addresses 398 CVEs (CVE-2026-68820)
Tenable reports Microsoft's August 2026 Patch Tuesday addresses 398 CVEs including three zero-days, one exploited in the wild (CVE-2026-68820).
Microsoft patched 398 CVEs in its August 2026 Patch Tuesday release, with 42 rated critical, 355 important, and one moderate, and three zero-days among them. One zero-day is confirmed as exploited in the wild. The release covers components including .NET, .NET Framework, Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), Azure services, and Windows. Tenable's count omits two CVEs assigned by MITRE, CVE-2026-6726 and CVE-2026-6727.
