Cocomelon's Studio Tells Its Artists to Start Experimenting With AI

Moonbug Entertainment, studio behind Cocomelon and Blippi, issued generative AI guidelines requiring human authorship and legal review of all AI use.

Moonbug Entertainment, producer of Cocomelon, Little Baby Bum, Blippi, and Mia's Magic Playground, shared its 'Studio AI Bible' and generative AI policy with 404 Media. The guidelines permit AI for ideation, storyboarding, and utility tasks but require substantial human creative input on core elements, legal approval of every tool, and a 'provenance and isolation' filing system to preserve copyright. A spokesperson said generative AI is not currently used in aired episodes. Moonbug content has hundreds of millions of YouTube subscribers, with Cocomelon spinoffs on Netflix, a Universal movie in development, and a Disney+ move planned next year.

.blend URL Viewer

Simon Willison demos a .blend URL viewer built with GPT-6 Astra in Codex and ChatGPT Images 2.5 generating Blender models.

Simon Willison used ChatGPT Images 2.5 to generate a Faberge egg concept image themed after the TV show Pluribus, then had Codex running GPT-6 Astra (high) execute a Blender local skill to build a 3D model from it. He published the result as a .blend URL viewer tool and continues experimenting with agentic Blender workflows. The post is a hands-on demo of AI-driven creative tooling rather than a security or release announcement.

27.5KB language-agnostic WebGPU syntax highlighter

A developer released gpu-lexer, a 27.5KB language-agnostic syntax highlighter that uses a tiny WebGPU model to label code tokens in the browser.

gpu-lexer splits source into words, whitespace, and symbols, then a small WebGPU model uses local and whole-file context to assign nine token classes, working on languages never seen in training. On held-out files, 12.57% of token labels differ from Shiki, though this measures agreement with Shiki rather than objective correctness. In benchmarks against Shiki 4.4.3, Prism.js, Highlight.js, Sugar High, and Starry Night, it highlighted 10 concatenated copies of three.min.js (5.56M characters) about 10x faster on an Apple M4 Pro in Chrome 152. The author frames it as an experiment, not a grammar-equivalent highlighter.

Iran-Linked Hackers Use Fake LinkedIn Job Offers to Deploy NodeRabbit and PollCat RATs

Iran-linked Mirage Kitten targets software engineers with fake LinkedIn recruiter coding tests deploying new NodeRabbit and PollCat RATs.

Kaspersky researchers link the campaign to Mirage Kitten (also tracked as UNC1549, Smoke Sandstorm, Nimbus Manticore), with victims in aviation, aerospace and fintech in Egypt, Ethiopia and Afghanistan. Trojanized npm dependencies (colorized_terminal, pretty-log) bundled in coding-challenge archives launch the Node.js implants across Windows, Linux and macOS. NodeRabbit uses AES-256-GCM-encrypted C2 via Azure, and its third variant persists through a fake GitHub Copilot Helper VS Code extension plus Git post-merge/post-checkout hooks. PollCat is an obfuscated JavaScript RAT that registers with C2 before OTP authentication and inventories tools from 24 security vendors.

FrostyGoop’s Zoom-In: A Closer Look into the Malware Artifacts, Behaviors and Network Communications

Unit 42 dissects FrostyGoop OT malware, which sent Modbus TCP commands to disrupt heating for 600+ apartment buildings in Ukraine.

Palo Alto Unit 42 analyzed new FrostyGoop/BUSTLEBERM samples, the ninth known ICS-centric malware, first used against a Ukrainian municipal energy company by sending Modbus TCP commands to ENCO control devices. The attack caused a two-day heating outage affecting over 600 apartment buildings during sub-zero temperatures. The Go-compiled malware accepts Modbus register operations and timing parameters via command-line arguments or a JSON configuration file, uses an obscure open-source Modbus library, and checks the Windows BeingDebugged flag to evade debuggers. Unit 42 telemetry recorded over 1 million Modbus TCP devices exposed to the internet between September and October 2024.

Evaluating Time-Series Foundation Models and Multimodal Dietary Context for CGM Forecasting

Study finds zero-shot time-series foundation models underperform on CGM forecasting; fine-tuned Chronos-Bolt cuts RMSE up to 18.4% and dietary context adds signal.

The paper evaluates time-series foundation models for continuous glucose monitoring forecasting across eight public datasets covering Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and non-diabetes populations. Under a unified protocol, zero-shot foundation models did not consistently outperform baselines like Elastic Net and PatchTST, but lightweight fine-tuning did, with fine-tuned Chronos-Bolt reducing RMSE by 6.5%-18.4% in the T1D cohort and 8.6%-18.2% in the non-diabetes/T2D cohort. A residual-based fusion framework adding dietary context from CGMacros reduced overall RMSE by about 3% and postprandial RMSE by about 15% versus CGM-only baselines.

StyleSmuggler: The Magento Zero-Day Behind New Store Attacks

Sansec reports actively exploited Magento/Adobe Commerce zero-day StyleSmuggler enabling unauthenticated RCE and Rust backdoor installation on fully patched stores since September 4.

Sansec discovered StyleSmuggler, an unpatched zero-day in Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce, affecting all current versions including 2.4.7, 2.4.8 and 2.4.9, with attacks observed since September 4. The two-stage attack poisons Magento's template system via the styles property and executes the injected PHP during 'Payment Transaction Failed Reminder' email rendering, working even when email delivery fails and when sessions are moved to Redis. Successful compromise installs a lightweight Rust backdoor disguised as fc-cache or chronyd that beacons every 60 seconds with 48-byte UDP packets to NTP port 123 at ntp.timesync.to. A second attacker deployed a PHP web shell in product-image cache directories, hidden behind 404 responses unless a correct X-Cache-Token header is present.

Iran-linked APT Mirage Kitten Uses Fake Job Tests to Spread Malware

Kaspersky reports Iran-linked Mirage Kitten delivers new NodeRabbit and PollCat malware to fintech and aviation targets via fake LinkedIn coding assessments.

Kaspersky researchers documented two previously undocumented Node.js malware families, NodeRabbit and PollCat, attributed with high confidence to Iran-linked APT group Mirage Kitten. The malware is delivered via fake recruiter personas on LinkedIn offering coding assessments hosted on Amazon S3, with instructions banning AI assistants so AI code-review tools would not flag the trojanized npm packages. NodeRabbit is cross-platform (Windows, Linux, macOS), uses AES-256-GCM-encrypted C2 on Azure, includes sandbox checks, and one variant installs a fake 'GitHub Copilot Helper' VS Code extension plus Git hook persistence. Victims identified so far are in fintech and aviation organizations across Egypt, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan.

Adobe Commerce Zero-Day Exploited to Backdoor Online Stores

Sansec found attackers exploiting an Adobe Commerce/Magento zero-day (StyleSmuggler) since September 4 to deploy Rust backdoors on online stores.

Threat actors are actively exploiting a zero-day RCE in Adobe Commerce and Magento 2.4.7-2.4.9, injecting PHP code via generated failure reports and executing it through Magento's payment-failure email, with no user interaction required. Exploitation began September 4 and succeeds even against stores running the July and August 2026 patches; the Rust backdoor disguises itself as kworker/u:8:0 or fc-cache and hides C&C communication inside fake NTP replies. Adobe's September 8 Patch Tuesday updates may not include a StyleSmuggler fix.

Four Nation-State Actors Used the Same Chrome Zero-Day Exploit Kit Within 12 Days

Proofpoint reports four nation-state actors, mostly China-nexus, adopted the BlueMoon Chrome and Windows zero-day exploit kit within 12 days, targeting US organizations.

Proofpoint tracked an exploit kit dubbed BlueMoon that chains CVE-2026-85046, a Chrome V8 type-confusion bug, with an unnamed V8 sandbox escape and CVE-2026-85880, a Windows kernel privilege escalation using ALPC and the Windows Notification Facility. The first observed use was by China-nexus TA412 (APT31, Violet Typhoon, JungleBamboo) on August 28, 2026 against US NGOs, mining companies, and commodity trading firms, followed by UNK_LateNight targeting US aerospace and defense companies on September 2. Both V8 bugs were patch-gap zero-days: the fix was committed to Chromium on August 7 but reached stable Chrome on September 3, enabling rapid weaponization from public patches. TA412's post-exploitation payload, GemStone, is a malicious browser extension posing as an AI-powered Google Gemini companion that captures keystrokes, cookies, screenshots, and browsing history via a Cloudflare Worker C2.

Magento StyleSmuggler zero-day exploited to deploy Linux backdoor

StyleSmuggler zero-day in Magento and Adobe Commerce is actively exploited in the wild to deploy a Rust-based Linux backdoor; fix not yet released.

A zero-day dubbed StyleSmuggler affecting all versions of Magento and Adobe Commerce is being actively exploited, with the first observed incident on September 4 on a fully patched site. The exploit injects PHP code via Magento's template system through a fake 'failed-payment' email to achieve code execution, installing a Rust-based backdoor disguised as kworker/u:8:0 or fc-cache with a 30-minute cron job for persistence. The backdoor communicates via TLS/WebSockets or UDP port 123 masquerading as NTP traffic, checks TracerPid to detect tracing, and can receive remote commands. Adobe confirmed it is working on a fix with no timeline; Sansec recommends disabling GraphQL as mitigation and monitoring for suspicious cron entries and kworker or fc-cache processes. Magento is installed on more than 160,000 websites, including 14,000 of the top 1 million sites.

TempCloze: Can Video-LLMs Identify the Missing Middle?

TempCloze benchmark tests Video-LLMs' temporal reasoning with 1,521 videos, finding temporal alignment is the primary failure mode across 31 models.

TempCloze is a video cloze benchmark in which models must identify the true missing middle clip given the beginning and ending clips, using 1,521 carefully filtered videos from seven sources, mostly long-take and egocentric footage. Distractors are constructed along three dimensions: Semantic, Alignment and Progression, with shared scenes and objects to reduce appearance cues. Evaluation of 10 proprietary and 21 open-source Video-LLMs found Alignment is the primary bottleneck, with models often recognizing plausible semantics and local event progression but struggling with temporal alignment.

Unpatched Magento and Adobe Commerce Zero-Day Exploited to Backdoor Online Stores

Sansec reports active exploitation of an unpatched zero-day, dubbed StyleSmuggler, in Magento and Adobe Commerce, letting attackers backdoor online store servers without authentication.

Sansec disclosed on September 5 that attackers are exploiting an unpatched vulnerability, named StyleSmuggler, in Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce to achieve unauthenticated remote code execution, with attacks observed starting September 4. All current versions including 2.4.9 are affected, and Adobe has published no advisory, CVE, patch, or workaround, with the next scheduled security release on September 8. Hosting firm Disrex Group independently confirmed two compromised stores (running 2.4.8 and 2.4.7-p2), both breached within the roughly eight-hour window before Sansec's blocking rules went live. The implant is a ~1.9 MB statically linked Rust binary disguised as a Linux kworker process, re-adding a cron entry every five minutes and in one case reading Magento sessions directly from Redis with no outbound traffic.
