Parallels Desktop Vulnerability Lets Non-Admin Mac Users Execute Code as Root

JFrog researchers disclosed CVE-2026-90894, a critical Parallels Desktop local privilege escalation letting non-admin Mac users execute code as root; fixed in 27.0.0.

JFrog researchers found that Parallels Desktop's privileged prl_disp_service daemon on macOS accepts unsigned local clients through a world-writable socket and allows argument injection into a tar command during appliance installation. Injecting the --use-compress-program option makes tar execute an attacker-controlled program as root, and a one-line proof of concept yielded a root shell without needing a running virtual machine. SANS Internet Storm Center reported a bump in scans for port 8006 and additional brute-force traffic against Proxmox VE servers following a Proxmox advisory about a vulnerability in older releases. The flaw only affects Proxmox VE version 7, which has been unsupported for a couple of years. Observed activity includes POST requests to /api2/json/access/ticket with root@pam usernames and weak passwords, fingerprinting requests, and POSTs to /api2/extjs/access/ticket; failed logins return 401 status codes and non-TLS POSTs return 308 redirects.

The OS still uses a TCP window scale of 6, ECN, and random timestamps, with only four TCP connections observed during boot. Hackers Disable Endpoint Protection and Deploy Sliver Across Compromised Windows Domain

The Hunter's Ledger tracked campaign UTA-2026-024 using Sliver C2, Domain Admin account creation, and Ethereum-based C2 rotation to compromise a US organization's Windows domain.

The Hunter's Ledger tracked an intrusion at one unnamed US organization as UTA-2026-024, staged from exposed server 193.233.202.17 with a Sliver beacon. Operators created a non-expiring Domain Admin account, enabled RDP with NLA disabled, dumped SAM, SYSTEM and SECURITY hives plus LSASS memory, and disabled eight endpoint protection services. A Node.js implant resolved its C2 server from an Ethereum smart contract that rotated domains five times in five months, while SYSTEM scheduled tasks with backdated dates and DNS allowlist manipulation provided persistence. The infrastructure ties to a confirmed ransomware incident, but no encryptor deployment was proven in this intrusion.

NCP-ArchPreview Technical Report: Moving towards Latent Space Language Models through Next Concept Prediction

An 8.9B-parameter latent-space language model using next-concept prediction matches OLMo-3-7B pretraining loss with only 51.3% of the training tokens.

NCP-ArchPreview augments next-token prediction with Next Concept Prediction over a product-quantized concept vocabulary built from hidden states, trained jointly end-to-end. The 8.9B model was trained on 5.73T tokens from the Dolma-3 dataset, the largest latent-space language model demonstration to date. It consumes 51.3% of the tokens to reach OLMo-3-7B's final pretraining loss and outperforms it by 2.45 points on the downstream macro-average, including a 5.99-point GSM8K gain. The learned latent space also enables lightweight domain adaptation via a 17M-parameter VQ module and improves speculative drafting accepted length by 4.17%.

SANS ISC observed requests for /PIAF-HMS/ using the unusual user-agent Farez-Sorter/1.0, along with paths like /admin/, /ucp/, /hms/, and /hotel/, starting September 15 from the single source IP 94.102.49.125 (IP Volume, AS202425, a bulletproof hoster). PIAF-HMS, a PBX in a Flash Hospitality Management System, was last updated 10 years ago and a SQL injection vulnerability was reported recently; the code shows many injection flaws and lacks authentication and access control. The handler notes hotels are soft targets for personal data theft and guest MitM attacks, and asks for community insight on the campaign.

New SLEEPWALKER Backdoor Waits for One Crafted Packet, Then Runs Its Own Bytecode

A new Windows backdoor dubbed SLEEPWALKER hides as ESET Management Agent's dpapi.dll, waits for a crafted network packet, then executes custom 23-instruction bytecode.

Researcher Dominik Reichel documented SLEEPWALKER, an unsigned 59,904-byte 64-bit Windows DLL that side-loads into ESET Management Agent's ERAAgent.exe while impersonating dpapi.dll. The implant monitors every network interface indefinitely for a specifically crafted trigger packet, then executes commands written in a custom 23-instruction bytecode language over six transports, including TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMB named pipes, raw promiscuous capture, and VMware VMCI. It has no embedded infrastructure, makes no outbound connections of its own, and requires prior local administrator access to install; no victims, attribution, or in-the-wild deployment are confirmed. Reichel assesses the design as consistent with a targeted, well-resourced operation, while ESET calls the scenario's security relevance negligible since it provides no new access path.

CodeTD applies topological data analysis (TDA) to code LLM attention maps to quantify prompt-generation mismatch as a pre-execution correctness signal. Experiments cover HumanEval, MBPP, BigCodeBench, and MultiPL-E across 5 programming languages and 10 code LLMs up to 34B parameters. The method outperforms recent baselines and transfers between coding benchmarks, helping catch code that fails the task or embeds security vulnerabilities.

Vals AI reports that Claude Fable 5.1 solved the Cyphral Distich, a 64-number cryptogram from Sir Thomas Urquhart's Logopandecteision unsolved since 1653, in 44 minutes using 176k tokens with no human hints. The key insight was that the cipher's key was the book itself: each number indexes a word in the corresponding Proquiritation, taking the first letter, yielding 'O GOD UPHOLD KING CHARLS THE SECOND AND MAKE HIM THE SUPREME RULER OF THIS LAND'. The model also deciphered the larger Cyphral Octastich (285 numbers) from The Jewel (1652) using page-based word indexing, recovering all but nine letters of a royalist prayer. The puzzle had been listed among Klaus Schmeh's Top 50 unsolved encrypted messages.

Hackers Can Turn Vulnerable LiteLLM AI Gateways Into Root Access and Cloud Credential Theft

Wiz found multiple LiteLLM AI gateway flaws, including a CVE-2026-59822 MCP auth bypass added to CISA KEV, enabling root code execution and cloud credential theft.

An internet scan of 3,074 exposed LiteLLM instances found 294 (9.6%) accepting the default sk-1234 master key and 191 (6.2%) requiring no authentication. CVE-2026-59822 lets a single-character Bearer token establish a valid MCP session via an OAuth2 fallback in versions before 1.84.0; the flaw is in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. CVE-2026-59821 allows Python code execution as root in the gateway container via unsanitized Custom Code Guardrails registration before 1.82.0-stable, and CVE-2026-35029 permits config changes leading to RCE and admin takeover. Admin access plus pass-through endpoints can reach cloud metadata services to steal IAM credentials.

Domain-Specific Hallucination Detection in Large Language Models

Cisco UCS and UCS-Based Appliances UEFI Shell Secure Boot Bypass Vulnerability

Cisco disclosed a UEFI Secure Boot bypass in UCS servers and UCS-based appliances letting authenticated or physically present attackers execute unauthorized software.

Cisco published an advisory for a vulnerability in the UEFI Shell implementation of UCS servers and UCS-based appliances. Memory write commands remain available in the UEFI Shell while Secure Boot is enabled, allowing an attacker to modify UEFI memory and bypass validation checks to run unauthorized software. Exploitation requires either valid credentials for a user or admin account, or unauthenticated physical access to select the UEFI Shell boot option at boot time. The issue affects firmware boot integrity rather than the running operating system.
