A new GNU C Library advisory (GLIBC-SA-2026-0016) describes a stack overflow in the nscd service caused by unbounded alloca use. glibc 2.3.4 and newer may crash when a malicious DNS server returns an oversized response, resulting in degraded DNS resolution. Exploitation requires nscd to be enabled and the system to be using an untrusted DNS server. The advisory was posted to oss-security by glibc maintainer Siddhesh Poyarekar.

Chaotic Eclipse Released A PoC For NVIDIA GreenSection Memory Corruption Zero-Day

Researcher Chaotic Eclipse released GreenSection, a PoC exploit for an NVIDIA Windows user-mode shared-memory flaw enabling out-of-bounds writes and potential dwm.exe compromise.

Researcher Chaotic Eclipse (aka Nightmare Eclipse) released a PoC named GreenSection for a zero-day in NVIDIA's Windows user-mode components. Multiple NVIDIA components share a global memory section in BaseNamedObjects with full read/write access to all users; although checks prevent misuse, runtime reuse of section data can cause an out-of-bounds write. The unstable PoC crashes applications using Vulkan or OpenGL and could potentially cross user boundaries or compromise the Windows Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe), though impact was not fully investigated. The researcher recently published similar zero-day PoCs against Kaspersky Endpoint Security, Avast Antivirus, and CrowdStrike Falcon.

Chipmaker Patch Tuesday: Nvidia, AMD, Arm Issue Security Advisories

AMD, Arm, and Nvidia issued Patch Tuesday advisories fixing a Linux GPU driver DoS flaw, nine Mali GPU vulnerabilities, and two high-severity Triton defects.

AMD fixed CVE-2026-43603, a NULL pointer dereference in its Linux GPU kernel driver that can crash systems and cause denial-of-service, credited to SecMate researchers, with patches for EPYC, Ryzen, Radeon, and Instinct shipped in July and embedded variants due in October. Arm published an advisory covering nine Mali GPU vulnerabilities allowing use-after-free access, kernel information leaks, or DoS, releasing fixes for Valhall and 5th Gen GPU Architecture drivers, with Bifrost also affected. Nvidia updated Triton Inference Server for Linux to resolve two high-severity flaws, one causing DoS and one enabling information disclosure, data tampering, and DoS. Intel had issued no new advisories since the previous Patch Tuesday.

The attack exploited weaknesses in DyPrIs dynamic process isolation, where long-lived Durable Object invocations could run before isolation and WebSocket-heavy I/O suppressed the branch-misprediction signal. Cloudflare deployed improved DyPrIs, the V8 Sandbox, and MPK-based in-process isolation, and found no indicators of active exploitation over three years.

The system distills the junior perception module of a tool-using agentic pipeline into a 2B student, reaching 89% of the pipeline's accuracy with 1.1% of its parameters and lifting a 27.1% base model to 81.4%. To meet the division limit, the multilingual embedding table is pruned from 248,320 to 143,469 rows, reaching 1.9985B parameters with provably identical logits on retained rows.

Suppressing retrieval moves model prediction errors closer together in relative terms, suggesting predictive capability is not determined solely by memorized values.

K-Bench: a clinically calibrated benchmark for evaluating large language models in high-risk mental health conversations

A frozen GPT-4o judge achieved 94.2% exact agreement with clinician consensus across 6,751 eligible comparisons from 151 clinician-rated transcripts. Leading models combined supportive conversation with combined-risk scores above 95, while risk exploration varied substantially among weaker configurations; therapeutic prompting helped weaker models and elevated reasoning produced no average improvement. A continuously updated public leaderboard is hosted at k-bench.ai with protected test materials.

Cross-Model Agreement as a Deployment-Time Reliability Signal for Automatic Polyp Segmentation

Referee-Based Quality Estimation flags unreliable polyp segmentations at inference without ground truth, reaching ROC-AUC 0.960 with SegFormer-B0 referees.

RBQE measures agreement between a primary segmentation model and an independently trained referee on a 1,223-image external benchmark drawn from four public datasets. A cross-architecture SegFormer-B0 referee achieves the strongest signal (ROC-AUC 0.960), beating a Test-Time Augmentation baseline by 0.055 ROC-AUC under an identical protocol. Excluding trivially separable empty-mask cases, ROC-AUC falls to 0.876 (SegFormer-B0) and 0.783 (same-architecture control), but RBQE's margin over baselines widens. Progressive rejection of low-agreement predictions increases mean Dice of retained outputs, supporting selective prediction at the cost of one extra forward pass.

GPG exploitation talk author clarifies a format-string 0day enabling code execution via printf %n writes and a polyglot PEM certificate payload.

Lexi Groves, author of the gpg.fail talk, clarified on oss-security that the first finding was an actual zero-day: a classic printf injection using %n for memory writes, with multiple X.509 certificates in one PEM file to re-enter and defeat ASLR before calling execv@plt. The payload executed the certificate itself, a polyglot file made by inserting a shebang and bash command into the PEM. A second finding was hash-collided by another party before the author could exploit it.

It tests both query-level and component-level non-compliance using paired single and compound queries, and evaluations across diverse VLMs show models often fail to refuse, correct or abstain appropriately, with failures worsening on compound queries. Fine-tuning VLMs on KoNA examples substantially improves non-compliance accuracy while largely maintaining performance on fully answerable tasks.

GDCM <= 3.2.7: six memory-safety and denial-of-service vulnerabilities, no CVE

Six memory-safety and denial-of-service flaws disclosed in the GDCM DICOM parsing library, affecting versions through 3.2.7.

Researcher Abhinav Agarwal disclosed six vulnerabilities in GDCM (Grassroots DICOM), an open-source C++ library for parsing and processing DICOM files. All six were confirmed against GDCM 3.2.6 using AddressSanitizer and UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer, and source review found the vulnerable patterns through version 3.2.7 and the upstream master snapshot. Potential impacts include heap corruption, process-memory disclosure, stack exhaustion, and process termination in applications parsing untrusted DICOM files. Willison generated pelicans-riding-bicycles SVGs with newly accessed GPT-6 Astra at low through max reasoning levels and rendered them in a comparison grid against GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna. Astra's outputs were markedly more coherent, while even the best GPT-5.6-Sol images remained largely abstract shapes. Astra does not support a reasoning=none setting, so all comparisons involved reasoning-enabled runs.

Prolific Microsoft 0-day hunter drops CrowdStrike Falcon exploit PoC

Researcher Nightmare Eclipse released a PoC for FalconFlank, a privilege escalation zero-day in CrowdStrike Falcon's Office macro remediation feature.

Researcher Nightmare Eclipse published a zero-day PoC dubbed FalconFlank targeting CrowdStrike Falcon's Microsoft Office malicious macro removal feature, achieving privilege escalation on fully updated Windows 11 25H2 and Windows Server 2025 with Optimal Protection and macro removal enabled. Kevin Beaumont independently confirmed the exploit works. The same researcher also released HardBreacher, an elevation-of-privilege bug in Kaspersky Endpoint (since fixed via update), PrettyPrague, an Avast Sandbox flaw that dumps the SAM database for a SYSTEM shell (Gen Digital is developing a patch), and GreenSection, an Nvidia memory corruption bug that crashes systems. CrowdStrike advises customers to disable the Suspicious Macro Removal Windows policy while it investigates.

27.5KB language-agnostic WebGPU syntax highlighter

A developer released gpu-lexer, a 27.5KB language-agnostic syntax highlighter that uses a tiny WebGPU model to label code tokens in the browser.

gpu-lexer splits source into words, whitespace, and symbols, then a small WebGPU model uses local and whole-file context to assign nine token classes, working on languages never seen in training. On held-out files, 12.57% of token labels differ from Shiki, though this measures agreement with Shiki rather than objective correctness. In benchmarks against Shiki 4.4.3, Prism.js, Highlight.js, Sugar High, and Starry Night, it highlighted 10 concatenated copies of three.min.js (5.56M characters) about 10x faster on an Apple M4 Pro in Chrome 152. The author frames it as an experiment, not a grammar-equivalent highlighter.

CISA advisory flags CVE-2026-87020, an integer overflow in Orthanc DICOM Server <1.13.0 causing heap out-of-bounds write and denial of service when decoding crafted PNG/JPEG images.

CISA published ICSMA-26-253-02 for Orthanc DICOM Server versions below 1.13.0, used in healthcare environments worldwide. CVE-2026-87020 (CWE-190) is an integer overflow in pitch and buffer-size computation causing a heap out-of-bounds write when decoding attacker-supplied PNG or JPEG images. An authenticated remote attacker can crash the Orthanc process and cause denial of service; CVSS v3.1 is 8.1 HIGH. CISA states no known public exploitation targeting this flaw has been reported.

Augustinian BabyLM: What Ostensive Definition Can and Cannot Teach a Small Language Model

Study shows visually grounded token embeddings in a small masked LM persist through training and improve object-property knowledge, but escape standard BabyLM benchmarks.

The paper implements ostensive definition for a small DeBERTa masked language model trained on 10M words, seeding visually grounded tokens with embeddings derived from labeled image regions before training. Visual initialization leaves a persistent, seed-replicated advantage on object-property knowledge (COMPS) and a corpus-tailored Visual-Property Swap benchmark covering color, material, size, and shape, but has no effect on most BabyLM grammar benchmarks. Synthetic grounding of previously unseeded words causally transfers the advantage to exactly those words.

Target leakage, not model class, explains reported accuracy in survey-based cardiovascular screening: a leakage-tiered audit of glass-box and tabular foundation models

Audits of 10 classifiers on BRFSS show target leakage, not model class, drives the reported 0.89 AUROC in survey-based cardiovascular screening.

The study benchmarks ten model classes, including glass-box and tabular foundation models, for prevalent myocardial infarction on 442,067 respondents of the 2022 BRFSS across five feature tiers of decreasing leakage risk. Removing two post-diagnostic features costs every model 0.049-0.051 AUROC and collapses performance into a 0.0045-wide band, and the explainable boosting machine matches all alternatives within 0.005 while scoring roughly 104x faster than the strongest foundation model. Frozen models transport within 0.002 AUROC to 2023 data; the authors conclude evaluation practice and feature sets, not model capacity, are the binding constraint.
