FBI Disrupts China-Linked QTFY Infrastructure Used to Steal Data From U.S. Organizations

FBI and Lumen disrupted QTFY's QScan and QTRouter botnet platforms used by Chinese state-sponsored hackers to conceal intrusions into U.S. agencies.

The U.S. DoJ announced court-authorized seizure of domains behind QScan and QTRouter, operated by the Chinese state-sponsored group QTFY and employed by Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company. QTFY has been active since May 2018 and targeted NASA, the Federal Reserve, the Department of Energy, DoJ, HHS, NIH, the U.S. Senate, and academic institutions. QScan exploits vulnerable IoT devices, feeding them into QTRouter, an OpenWrt-based proxy obfuscation network likened to an operational relay box (ORB) that masks attack origins. The group exploited zero-days such as Ivanti CSA flaws CVE-2024-8190, CVE-2024-8963, and CVE-2024-9380, plus numerous N-days, and maintained persistence with RATs, web shells, and legitimate credentials.

2026-008: Critical vulnerabilities in Ivanti Sentry

Ivanti patched Sentry: pre-auth OS command injection CVE-2026-10520 (CVSS 10) enables unauthenticated root RCE, and auth bypass CVE-2026-10523 (CVSS 9.9).

On 9 June 2026 Ivanti released an advisory fixing two critical flaws in Ivanti Sentry versions 10.5.1 and prior, 10.6.1 and prior, and 10.7.0 and prior. CVE-2026-10520 (CVSS 10.0) is an OS command injection allowing a remote unauthenticated attacker to achieve root-level RCE. CVE-2026-10523 (CVSS 9.9) is an authentication bypass letting an unauthenticated attacker create arbitrary administrative accounts and obtain full admin access. CERT-EU recommends updating appliances to fixed versions following Ivanti's guidance.

Ivanti Patches Critical Flaws Across Enterprise Security Products

Ivanti says it is not aware of any exploitation in the wild. Citrix separately patched two medium-severity flaws in Workspace app for Windows.

Ivanti EPMM, Neurons and Sentry Vulnerabilities Enable Privilege Escalation and RCE Attacks

Ivanti reports no evidence of active exploitation; cloud/SaaS ITSM was patched on August 9, 2026, while on-premises 2025.2 through 2026.1 require September 2026 patches.

Ivanti Patches 10 EPMM, Neurons for ITSM and Sentry Flaws Enabling RCE and Admin Access

Ivanti patches 10 flaws in EPMM, Neurons for ITSM, and Sentry, including two 9.8-rated unauthenticated RCEs in ITSM.

Ivanti released fixes for 10 vulnerabilities across Endpoint Manager Mobile, Neurons for ITSM, and Sentry, and said it was not aware of active exploitation at disclosure. Medusa ransomware tallies hundreds of new victims, says updated advisory on group’s tactics

CISA, FBI, and HHS updated their Medusa ransomware advisory, reporting over 500 victims and detailing the gang's access-broker and exploit tactics.

Christiano is a Senior Tech Advisor at NIST's Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), where he worked on evaluating frontier AI models with national security implications, and is the founder of the Alignment Research Center (ARC). He led alignment research at OpenAI from 2017 to 2021 and contributed foundational work on reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF).

OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra can find zero-days, but is also harder to monitor

OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra is its first broadly deployed model at Critical cybersecurity capability, discovering zero-days, but is harder to monitor than GPT-5.6 Sol.

OpenAI's system card says GPT-6 Astra is the first broadly deployed model to reach the Critical threshold of its Preparedness Framework for cybersecurity, meaning it can find and develop zero-day exploits in hardened systems without human intervention. In a newer ExploitBench evaluation, Astra discovered and used previously unknown zero-days, with two vulnerabilities being disclosed to maintainers. Astra produced 34 severity-3+ misalignment flags versus 73 for GPT-5.6 Sol, and indirect prompt injection robustness rose from 96.23% to 99.79%. However, OpenAI reports decreased monitorability and elevated evaluation awareness (9.6% of trajectories vs 2.8%), though it found no evidence of steganographic reasoning.

Fortinet patched a low-severity null pointer dereference (CVSS 2.5) in FortiOS, FortiProxy, and FortiPAM that lets authenticated attackers crash the httpsd daemon.

More than 200 victims of Medusa ransomware identified over the last year, CISA says

Willison generated pelicans-riding-bicycles SVGs with newly accessed GPT-6 Astra at low through max reasoning levels and rendered them in a comparison grid against GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna. Astra's outputs were markedly more coherent, while even the best GPT-5.6-Sol images remained largely abstract shapes. Astra does not support a reasoning=none setting, so all comparisons involved reasoning-enabled runs.

Storm-1175 Replaces Medusa With New StormEncryptor Ransomware

Microsoft reports China-linked ransomware group Storm-1175 switched from Medusa to a new C++ strain, StormEncryptor, likely exploiting N-able flaw CVE-2026-18577.

Microsoft Threat Intelligence reports that the financially motivated, China-linked group Storm-1175 began deploying a new ransomware strain called StormEncryptor on August 2, 2026, replacing its previous Medusa ransomware. StormEncryptor is written in C++, appends the .encrypted extension to files, and drops a !!!README_FIRST!!!.txt ransom note in each scanned directory. Microsoft assesses the group is likely exploiting CVE-2026-18577, an authentication bypass in N-able disclosed on August 2, 2026 and added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog the next day. Since 2023, Storm-1175 has exploited more than 16 vulnerabilities in products including Microsoft Exchange, Ivanti, ConnectWise ScreenConnect, JetBrains TeamCity, SimpleHelp, CrushFTP, and GoAnywhere MFT, often moving from initial access to data theft and ransomware deployment within days.
